Wizard Building Clockworks

Advice

Lantern Lodge

Hey all. I am really looking forward to building a character whose main thing is that he builds clockworks...my problem is that I can't seem to wrap my head around how to do it. I am aware that to make anything of use will have to wait until high level to do, but I kind of want to play the excentric builder.

He may be an NPC or a PC eventually but the point is I am stumped.

I have stats based off a 20 point buy and thats about it. I know I want a familiar over a bonded item for theme purposes, and I know I want him to be a creationist. But feat progression, heck even race is just me banging my head against a wall.

HUman is my standard, and while I have an unfounded dislike of gnomes they also seem to fit the feel I am going for. I place myself at your mercies...

Well, really all you need is Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wondrous Items, being a 5th level caster, and having the Craft Construct Feat.

Everything outside of that is optional.

I'm not even sure you need to get into crafting feats for anything less than a golem. Just invest heavily in craft/locks/craft/traps, and knowledge/engineering, and try and hit the crafting checks. It all depends on your DM, really.

You absolutely do.

Also of note, golems and clockworks are mutually exclusive to one another. They are similar, but not the same.
