The water type gets gills at 8th level "so it can breath underwater" - elemental subtypes don't breathe.
Am I missing somthing?

I find it strange any of them have to breath because not once did they say that the Eidolons were native outsiders and there the only type of outsider that has to breath.

Actually all outsiders except elemental ones breathe normally.

Outsiders breathe, but do not need to eat or sleep (although they can do so if they wish). Native outsiders breathe, eat, and sleep.

Cylerist is right in his question. Probably someone forgot that Outsiders (elemental) don't breathe.

Sovereign Court

I think that the Elemental eidolon does actually breathe, eat and/or sleep.

Elemental Subtype:

An elemental has the following features.

- Immunity to bleed, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack.
(...)
- Elementals do not breathe, eat, or sleep.

But on the Unchained Eidolon entry they dont gain the Inmunity to bleed, poison and stun until level 12.

Unchained Eidolon entry:

- At 12th level, all elemental eidolons gain immunity to bleed, poison, and stun. In addition, they can no longer be flanked.

Sadly for my elemental eidolon...

Sadly for my elemental eidolon...

The description of the eidolon explicitly says that it does not gain the abilities of its subtype.

The eidolon gains this as a subtype, but unless otherwise noted, it does not gain any of the features, abilities, or weaknesses of that subtype.

I hope the eidolon in question didn't mind holding its breath for almost two years...
