Coordinating PFS with The Lottery

PaizoCon General Discussion

Scarab Sages

Hey All!

So, it is my understanding that PFS scenarios will NOT be run during the mid-day sessions. I get that PFS is still running the same number of sessions they always have, just spread out over 4 days instead of 3.
While I could wish there was solid PFS available all 4 days, I don't really have a problem with this, as long as I can get to game during this midday session.
However, if I understand correctly, the PFS Schedule is not available until AFTER the Lottery. So - if I want to fill those midday sessions with Lottery Events, I need to KNOW when PFS is NOT going to be run, so I can put my name into the correct Lottery slot. And if that information is not available until AFTER the Lottery... well, I guess you can see the problem.

I trust you folks to coordinate this stuff, but sometime logistics are such that things fall through the cracks. So, if I may, let me suggest that you at LEAST publish the time-slots that WILL have some PFS in them, so we know what the open slots are when the Lottery comes out.

The Lottery IS time-slot specific, right?

I believe the PFS time slots are:

Every morning from 8-1
Friday night Special 7-12
Sunday Night special 7-12

Sovereign Court

Keep in mind also, it is a lottery. You are not guaranteed to get your picks for any given slot. There have been years where I won the lion's share of my picks and others where I ended with nothing from the lottery.

That said, ending with nothing from the lottery is not a bad thing, as there are plenty of events, seminars, and not listed gaming going on all weekend long. I would hazard that the year I got zero picks in the lottery ended up being one of the best PaizoCon experiences I have had (out of 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013).

And, if you end up with a slim result from the lottery, you can then fill in with PFS. ;)

I hope to be able to make the events live early next week (Tuesday, maybe Wednesday?) It depends a bit on how fast we can get the events entered. Jeff and Erik have given the non-PFS event schedule the OK so its just a matter of event entry, giving the staff a day to review it and then pushing things live.

Shortly after we push it live, we will open it up so you will be able to make lottery selections. You should be able to view non-lottery events at that time as well so you can plan out what you want to aim for. Lottery selection will be open for at least over 1 weekend, I think the plan right now is to keep it open until about April 28th (I'll confirm that when we open the lottery up). At that point, the lottery will be run and a day or so later provided we have no hiccups, non-lottery event selection and event trading will open up.

I am currently looking into whether pushing PFS events live right now would cause any issues so it could be that those could go live sooner than the rest of the schedule.

As far as the PFS schedule goes, every day we have over 30 tables of PFS events run by Paizo volunteers from 8am-1pm. Friday and Sunday nights we have PFS Specials from 7pm-11:59pm.

I wasn't able to get the PFS events only going live before I have to leave and I am out tomorrow. Next week!

There will also be pick-up games that happen in addition to the lottery games. I suspect some of them will be organized in this thread, and they may even use the same Warhorn (at least some of them) that's being used for pre-planned pre-con games. Keep your eyes open.

Actually, if you are organizing a pickup game during the days of the con, check out our Event Submission page (the submission deadline for these kinds of games has been extended into next week) and we can add it as a non-lottery event on the official schedule :)
