God of Cities

Advice

Hi, I'm looking for advice about what PCs would find if they were to go into a church devoted to a "God of Cities". The description of the god is merely "A major god of civilization and sophisticated living." His portfolio is "He is Neutral and his domains are Civilization, Knowledge and Protection. (The Civilization domain is found in the Ptolus campaign book.)"

What would the church look like? What special services would it offer? What unique areas would it have on its grounds?

(Specifically, this is the god Asche, from Monte Cook's "Ptolus: City by the Spire" 3.5 campaign setting.)

Any ideas are welcome!

Probably Abadar, in the Golarion setting.

I suggest reading up on him.

The church would likely be a massive and impressive stone structure, representing the best in modern engineering. It may even be "plainly" decorated, with the greatest work of art being the building itself.

Abadar, god of cities, law, merchants, and wealth

Jane Jacobs?

Just for reference the Archdevil Dispater is also a deity of cities.

Maybe his church is city hall?

Don Draper?

Seriously though is it the god of ALL cities or just the city they're in? I second the thoughts on Abadar.

There would be a library, with a lot of info on architecture, economics, and law. Plus charts of the sewer system, city walls, and so on.

And it's a bank as well. Probably quite a busy one.

All cities, I would think. But I like the suggestions about Abadar and how every church is uniquely about that city.

Great suggestions, everyone! I'm still open to more!

I'm thinking facilities that would organize the chaos of the city enough for everyone to tolerate each other. For example, it might contain a council of representatives from each different district the city contains. There would also be representatives from various farming, herding, logging, fishing and other groups that supply the city. There might also be some sort of judges that oversee conflicts between the richest and poorest residents, and different ethnic/racial groups as well.

I took the topic title to mean that we would be discussing a the god that all cities (not their people, but the literal city itself) worship, a god that is literally a city. I'm a bit disappointed, but now I have an adventure idea.

"Hey, what's the god of kobolds?"

"Why that's the god that's made up of kobolds."

"You don't mean..."

"Yes, ALL THE KOBOLDS."
