Character deaths are an overrated and easily abused plot element anyway.

THERE, I SAID IT! *Holds his flame shield* I REGRET NOTHING!

This is a good point, I totally agree.

I'd actually like to break it out (along with some other thoughts) and open a discussion about some of the meta considerations for tie-in fiction, but I'm worried it'd just wind up being me talking to myself.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this and share some of mine own for one.

I'd be up for it :3

Well, I don't need much poking to go open up a thread. :)

Probably won't start with character deaths, though, since I'm still marshaling my thoughts on that one (of course, if someone else wants to start with that topic, by all means! let's have as free-ranging a discussion as possible).

So to bring this thread back on topic...anybody else got thoughts, comments or opinions on this?

More Zarina please?

A bit late to this party I know, but I'm going to dissent and say I'd like Zarina to stay dead.

In reading the end of the book I was caught up in the imagry, while at the same time reading 'game mechanics' into it. Zarina's fight was awesome, as was her sacrifice.

It's hard to describe, but somehow her survival would seem to... lessen it for me.

Now I'd love to see her in prequels, but I'm in the 'she's dead, Jim.' camp.

I completely agree with you the imaginary of Zarina's fight was well written. At the time I read it I did take it has her last stand. In my mind she was not dead. So it would not cheapen it for me at least. I asked Chris via e-mail if she was alive or not just to confirm my belief she was not dead.

I am not going to try to convince you to change sides...as my arguments for why I think she should be alive are stated throughout this thread. And I do understand your position. Though if she does make a come back I greatly respect Chris's writing ability to do it so you will love it.

Anyway thank you for sharing your opinion on this. (Even if it is wrong ;) )
