Advice

Would like to hear folks' thoughts on Favored Class Bonuses for Wizards. I like the extra durability +1 HP gives, but I'm also rather fond of the extra spells in my book.

How's your GM when it comes to new spells?

If he just lets you buy them easily, extra spells isn't worthwhile. If not, it becomes massively more helpful.

Im of the spell type, myself. The money I save can buy other stuff like a +2con belt if want more HP.

Not sure. It's going to be a sandboxy campaign and the main town has only a 7th level Wizard at most.

Our houserules eliminate the Big 6 so Con Belts are unavailable since we get scaling stat boosts as we level.

Any other recommendations?

You need to remember that +1 spell doesnt come with a scribe fee. Just like when you level up. This makes it the more valuable one.

But an elf ability to gain uses of shift or admixture can be of value too.

Blessed Book also negates the Scribe fee and is going to be an auto-take for a Wizard if he can.

Yes...but the source spell is free too. No need to research, hire a wizard, or find a scroll either.

Blessed book is expensive too.

A lot of it depends on how hard it is to get new spells other ways. If you are finding spellbooks on enemies, get access while in town etc, than the decision could be based more on availability than gold

If you are looking purely from a gold standpoint, I don't see it being worth it.

I calculated the cost you save, assuming you use the 1 extra spell for every fcb from 1-12 you save 1110 gold in scribing costs (assuming you are not buying scrolls to scribe, or paying for access to spellbooks). Estimated wealth for a level 12 is 108,000 gold. That means by that level you are trading 1% of your wealth for 12 hp, not a great deal.

The percentage of your wealth you save as you level up just goes down even though the costs go up, having played a wizard up to high levels, I would suggest getting a blessed book for saving costs scribing, the wizard's strength is flexibility to learn a spell for any scenario, you will want a bunch.

skill point. Crafting.
then take item creation feats, and promise your party members each 5% of your profits when they eliminate your only competition, the level 7 wizard. Become your very own gear baron. Now, how to lure other adventuring groups to your region, to buy all of your uber wares...

Eh, assuming you're ebil. You are an ebil wizard, riiiight?
