You can use Perception to find tracks, just not to follow them. Excerpt from PRD below:
Alternatively, you can use the Perception skill to find a footprint or similar sign of a creature's passage using the same DCs, but you can't use Perception to follow tracks, even if someone else has already found them.
"This path has not seen use in some time - I also would be wary of testing the bridge with our weight."
Pavok Kor'tell |
"Does anybody see any signs of a settlement or a travlers camping either direction?" With that Pavok looks north and south.
Perception:1d20 ⇒ 13
"Or if we wish to take this root we can tie a rope to me and I can test out at least the first 50ft?" Pavok suggests.

Just to be annoying, I'm going to use my feat, prophetic vision :P
'If you don't mind waiting for 10 minutes I can ask for guidance from the gods?'
If no one objects, Mhykir sits and enters a deep trance, finding guidance as to which direction yeilds the best way around.
As an Augary Spell with a 70% success rate. 1d100 ⇒ 32

Oka augery says bidge: Bad idead. It is too rickety to handle most of you and camels too. Mhykir forsees disaster should even one of you attempt to cross. Now only two options remain
North or South.
Neither direction seems to have anything of note. The question is, which of the two has the shortest route. You can't tell from here.
Now vote, majority wins, as soon as I have a direction I will post the next segment.
Shanosuke |
North it is.
You all travel north for the rest of the day. You follow the chasm but find no easy path from which you can cross. The day ends and you post your watches. Thankfully you are uninterrupted for the night.
The next day you travel a couple of hours more when you come to an interesting sight. A natural rock bridge far sturdier that the other bridge. Only one problem. You have you climb down 50 feet to get to it and is seems to lead to a cave on the opposite chasm wall. If you take it, you wont be able to climb the other with the camels. You'd have to go into the cave or leave ALL of the animals behind.
Or you could simply continue north. The choice is yours.
Faznir has been silent for too long. I may have to do something about it. I'll decide in the morning.
Mus'ad |
"If we must go through the earth, then I will endure."
Just making sure - the choices are:
1. Cross the stone bridge, then climb on the other side - leaving behind all the animals.
2. Cross the stone bridge, then go into the cave - bring everyone.
3. Ignore the stone bridge and keep going North.
Mus'ad is ok with either 2 or 3, but would never entertain 1.

hehe thought not. But yes those are your options.

I will need climb checks to get to the bridge. DC 15 Then give me a marching order into the cave once you are all down. Mounts have to take the checks too. You can give them a +2 assist bonus from a handle animal check DC 10 or a second Climb check DC 15. Camels need a 15 to get down also.
Mus'ad |
Arik goes first taking 10 (for 17) and lays out a rope. Then everyone can descend by taking 10.
The camels have a strength of 18, and I can take 10 on the handle animal check to give them +2 to climb - so they can then take 10 for a result of 16.
So we have no issues traversing down to the bridge.
Mus'ad will walk at the back on foot, leading the camel.
Shanosuke |
Sure that works I guess. Whatever, moving on.
You all reach the cave. Pavok and Arik are in the lead and the rest of you follow. You head into the cave and it begins to descend. Not sure if that is what you all wanted but that is the way you are going.
The cave is not tall enough for any of you to be mounted so you are simply leading the camels along. You travel for about another several hours following the tunnel with no signs of an exit.
Eventually you are forced to set up camp for the night. Near the end of the last watch of the watch (Mus'ad and Faznir......whom has not posted for several days) The two of you need to make a perception check.
You think you hear what sounds like a woman's scream some good ways down the tunnel. Were talking a good ways like a mile or two tops.
Regardless everyone is stirred awake and you move at the pace you can best travel in utter darkness.
After an hour you come to the first fork in the road.
Left or right? Ask Questions, Make checks, just don't chose wrong path hehe
Mus'ad |
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Just a small point - is the scream meant to portend anything?
The way that you've written it in to the post, I've got no chance to figure out which tunnel branch the noise came from - and you advanced the plot before I could even react to the noise.
Just wondering what the point of putting it in at all if there is no ability for me to tangibly react to it in any way?
Mus'ad |
Upon hearing the scream Mus'ad alerts his companions to it.
Arriving at the junction "The woman's scream came from the passage on the right. Are we to make for it or avoid the potential for trouble?"
Mus'ad is fairly ambivalent to the suffering of others, but I know that other PCs are a bit more compassionate.

Bananas are cool???

Damn, I typed up a post yesterday and was sure I hit send, oh well, stupid computers...
Oh, and +1 Mus'ad for the Aussie Vernacular ;)
'I am comfortable with stone, and have no problems with the dark' Mhykir says, before leading his camel down and into the cave.
Perception:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Mhykir takes his watch and then falls into a deep sleep, stirring in the early hours, but not waking until woken by his friends.
While they walk, he observes the caves they are passing through with interest.
Knowledge Geography: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Upon reaching the fork, Mhykir agrees with Pavok, and if the party agrees to head right tries to move as quietly as possible
Stealth:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Arik scouts ahead and the rest of you follow close behind. Not an hour goes by before Arik returns.
Your scouting results yielded an interesting result. Not to far ahead of the group you found what looks to be an underground pyramid in a huge underground chamber.. You can take 20 on perception to see what looks to be several mummies scurring about its entrance. You would be able to see the pyramid due to some light coming in from the ceiling above. Surrounding the pyramid seems to be a small town with houses made of clay. At the entrance of the Pyramid is an alter and put on display at the alter is a half naked Aradinan woman. She seems either dead or unconscious as the mummies hang her as some kind of offering before the gate of the pyramid. You estimate around 20 mummies in all. Ask questions cause I may have missed some details.
Shanosuke |
Do any new details play in since I have darkvision and don't need light to see clearly?
How many mummies? Are there other creatures? Can I determine the strength of these opponents if we to choose to fight them?
First two questions were already answered and the third question requires a new perception or knowledge arcana.
