Product Idea: Other themed miniature boxes

Miniatures

Instead of just making boxes for the APs I think it'd be a good idea and allow people to get more of the miniatures they want/need to make boxes for each class(ex. Fighters which would include Fighter miniatures of various races, Wizards would includes wizards. etc. or it would have more of theme of just Melee characters which would include sword-and-board, two-handed, one-handed characters from classes like Fighter, Ranger, Barbarian; Arcane Users would include Bards, Wizards, and Witches) boxes for each race(Dwarf boxes would include Dwarves of various classes, same for Humans, Tengus, etc.) and boxes of various other types of enemies(Devils, Giants, Aberrations, etc.)

I think this would increase sells of the boxes you'd have a better chance of getting a mini that'd match a character you'd have the idea for better than just the AP box sets

Sadly, they apparently don't seem to sell as well as the random minis, but I personally always preferred themed boxes over the more random minis. I especially like the "Pathfinder Battles Builder Series", which currently consists of a set of semi-random Goblin minis, and semi-random undead: these are fantastic for supplying a large number of the basic rank-and-file baddies, as well as a few of the more uncommonly-used monsters in the theme. The upcoming "Iconics" sets seem to be a similar idea, and I'll probably end up buying those up as well. Unfortunately, Paizo and/or Wizkids do not seem to have gone any further with the "Builder Series" line, presumably because the low demand for narrow themed sets doesn't seem to justify the expense of supplying it.

Similarly, the "other guys" had a few boxes of un-random themed sets for one of their attempts at a miniatures battle game, in undead, goblin, orc, drow, and "hero" sets, along with some nice dungeon-tile terrain, which I also thought was a nice idea, but that line seems to have been discontinued, probably for similar reasons.

I'm a sucker for getting the semi-random and non-random sets like these, even if I do already have more Goblins, Undead, and Orcs than I know what to do with these days.

I don't mind un-painted plastic monsters, either - I think Reaper's "Bones" miniatures are fantastic in that regard: they're relatively inexpensive, easy to customize, they work OK unpainted, while they don't take too much effort to paint up to pre-painted plastic standards, and it's probably just as effective to just paint a set of Pathfinder goblins a flat green for the sake of getting cannon-fodder on the table quickly as it is to get a bunch of nice pre-painted goblins, anyway. Chuck a dozen green plastic generic Orcs on a table and tell the players they're Half-Orcs, or Hobgoblins, or cannibal headhunters, or Morlocks, or cavemen, or whatever, and (within reason) the players get the picture just fine without being distracted by the fact that the miniatures look just the same as the Orcs they fought last session. Same thing with dragons: a couple dozen dragons in various colors and sizes are nice, but really one generic unpainted plastic dragon could stand in just as nicely for an ancient red dragon as a young green one, and I don't think anyone would mind.

To be honest though, if I had it all to do over again, I think I would just be happy with Paizo's cardboard "pawns" for monsters and NPCs, alongside some nice random or semi-random plastic PC types to represent the player-characters - it seems like exotic monsters are much easier to come across now than a good variety of PCs, in a game where available race, class, and setting options have outstripped the ability of miniatures sculptors and manufacturers to represent them fairly, and where there's really only so many exotic monster varieties I actually need to represent.

That said, I'm not sure I'm the target market for miniatures sets.

In any case, I'll probably end up being one of the ones out there buying these sorts of themed sets, especially themed sets of heroes and PC races like Gnomes, Halflings, Dwarves, and Elves, so I'll add a "me too" to this thread.
