PaizoCon General Discussion

Hey all,

I'm hoping to attend PaizoCon for the first time this year but I have a couple quick questions to help get it all the facts for presenting my case to my wife. :-P

First - If I purchase a 4 day special badge now, but end up not able to attend can I get a refund?

Second - If no refund am I allowed to resell it (at face value) to recoup my money?

Thanks

JD

Thanks. Tickets bought! So looking forward to this. Last year was my first and, despite making some newbie mistakes, I had a blast.

Rooms not available yet. Fellow on phone said that sometimes it takes a day or so for the room block to open up. I'll call back tomorrow.

I had heard from some other posters that the hotel rate had been active for a while. You may want to double check you called the right hotel (DoubleTree) as I think I missed updating two of the FAQs with the new hotel's number.

I had an existing reservation without the con rate and he found that, so I'm pretty sure I had the right hotel. I'll call again in the morning.

Days Inn across the street for me. Bit of a walk but only way I can afford the show, banquet, airfare, and goodies. Small price to pay just hope it doesn't rain.

And I found that the non-con rate I paid was cheaper. I believe I found the rate on the Double Tree site. I was paying one adult, one kid though which is like $10 cheaper than 2 adults.

I found the same as RyanH. I made a con-rate reservation months ago, and then changed it to the non-con rate as a better deal.

And I have DeeLux tickets for my and my boy!

My dad just came into town so I missed the announcement until now. Two Deluxe tickets for me and my wife. We are both so excited!!

My girlfriend sorted out our rooms a couple of months ago. Maybe they have been sold out and a new block needs to potentially open?

FYI the number that is on the website goes to the Event Planning team not reservations.

Badges acquired, rooms reserved now I just hope I can make the rest of it work. :-D

Can anyone direct to link me to some good information on previous PaizoCon's so I can get an idea of how things work?

I've been attending a DunDraCon, my local Con for the 20+ years along with a few other random ones but this will be my first visit to PaizoCon.

Thanks

JDragon, several weeks before PaizoCon expect the lottery events to be posted. These are unique events and tables for a limited number of participants. The more accurately you rate your interest the more seriously Paizo will take your highly preferred. Shortly after this phase closes we will sign up for our scenario slots. A call for GMs will probably go out soon.

What other questions do you have? I don't know of resources to direct you to.

My wife and I are going to DunDraCon and this will be our fourth PaizoCon.. Fun times.

My son and I are going to DundraCon, and this will be our third PaizoCon! Hoping to get to play with some of you Bay Area folks!

Sadly, Seattle is much farther away than it used to be, so I fear I will almost certainly not make PaizoCon this year. (I'm also making a lot less money than I used to.)

The good news is that Indianapolis is now within driving distance, so I may make GenCon....

Thanks for the info all, that's a great start.

I know at other Con's (IE DunDraCon, Origin's) they hand out programs with all the events, schedules and other important information in them for east reference.

Any chance one of those from a previous year is available online for me to look over.

For example so I can get an idea of what some of these lottery events might be like?

Always glad to see fellow Bay Area gamers about. I will be running a Pathfinder on Friday starting at Noon. The info is up on DDC's website if you are interested.

Thanks

JD

I was rather sad I didn't get to go last year. Hopefully this year I can, even if it is only for a day or two.

Silver Crusade

Well we Sacramenton's don't consider ourselves Bay Area, but we do like DunDraCon.

Shadow Lodge

According to the hotel site, "The requested rate is not available."

UPDATE: The rate is available, but despite what the site says, it is only available if you book from 21-25th, not 21-26th.

Scarab Sages

I'm another Dundracon regular. Maybe we should do a Bay Area meetup at Paizocon this year.

Tickets bought. Hotel reservation made.

Just need to figure out how I'm getting there. :P

OK so this is probably a stupid question... This is gonna be my first paizocon and my wife will be coming too... She enjoys the adventure card game more while I prefer the RPG more. She is interested in trying out PFS for the RPG though. So the stupid question is, are there going to be a bunch of low level PFS Sessions going on? I've finally created a character that I'm interested in really playing with and advancing, and I'm helping her work on one she likes as well. Would like to go from 1 as far as I can while at the con.

Flight is booked, reservations made, just need to get my next paycheck to secure a four day pass. :)

Dustin Ammerman wrote:

Almost certainly. While I do not believe our schedule is finalized, we will be running every Season 6 scenario released, including Wounded Wisp (Tier 1-2) and the Scions of the Sky Key trilogy (all Tier 1-5). And if those don't suit you, I'm sure myself or someone else can run a pickup game for you in our off slots. :)

The Exchange

Awesome. Good to know. My only experience with PFS is the one campaign in the beginner box. I played it once at Realmscon with an actual venture lieutenant and once in an at home setting. Really looking forward to all that's out there.

I look forward to playing ACG with your wife at Paizocon. :)

I just bought my Ticket, including Banquet! I am excited for PaizoCon already!

Scarab Sages

Just for the sake of clarity, is the $10 savings the only difference between a deluxe badge and a regular badge plus a banquet ticket?

Those of you who don't have transportation options lined up might want to look into getting an ORCA card. It makes it really easy to use the public transportation system here. Unfortunately there isn't a great route to AFK E&E if you're trying to get to the meet-and-greet, but if you're just trying to get around the area to explore some other food options or pick up last minute travel essentials it's a good (and cheap!) option.

Dark Archive

Aside from the PFS PaizoCon boons will there be anything else available to help raise money for this year's charity at the con?

the Haunted Jester wrote:

I think you're thinking of Gen Con. I don't recall a charity drive at PaizoCon before.

Ashley, I don't think there is a good Orca Card option for short term visitors, *cost-wise*. I think the card is simply $5 more than whatever fare $$ you add to it. The only unlimited option I know is for 1-month. It is *easy* though. The public trans here is phenomenal, and flashing the card is much simpler than exact change.

Edit: Oh, much cheaper than cabs of course! And you can get the Orca cards at the Sea-Tac Light Rail station FYI.

Feeling excited and anxious. Hopefully we will see a schedule by the 17th of this month.

Can we expect a blog post, in the next week or so, discussing some of the lottery events in more detail, when the lottery goes live, and perhaps some goodie bag spoilers??

I can't say it'll exactly be in the next week, but very, very soon! It will be plastered and available all over the wide interweb once we're ready :)

I finished up the draft of the schedule Friday afternoon. Jeff and Erik are reviewing it o make sure things look good. I need to then enter events from my schedule onto Paizo.com. I don't think all the pieces are going to be in place this week, so I am shooting for sometime next week. As Chris said, we will plaster it all over paizo.com, facebook, twitter, email, etc when its ready for lottery selections.

You all are amazing and I thank you for the open communication you all have shown!! (and apologize if my persistence was a nuisance).
