Why is Barbara sticking around? I'm pretty sure Barbara/Batgirl's mom was someone else.
Barbara Gordon's background has been reshuffled several times in the comics, so there's no way to be sure who her mother will be in this show. In order to avoid a big age gap between future Batman and future Batgirl -- and there should be a gap, but not a huge one -- she'll need to be born in the next handful of years, and at this point Barbara Kean and Leslie Thompkins are the only candidates in view.
If you were "Lee" would you want your husband naming your daughter after his ex?

Pretty cool episode. Some notes:
A cool take on the myth of the Red Hood.
Bullock continues to be my favorite.
And I shall second the question - WTF was up with them just leaving evidence (the actual red hood) lying around? It would have made a bit more sense if they had maybe shown it falling out of an evidence bag or being otherwise accidently lost.

About that Barbara scene:
Anyone else mildly creeped out by Barbara's interactions with Selina? Commenting about how attractive Selina was (twice I think?), and how she should use it as a weapon, followed by a suggestion of dress up time...?
Felt like we were getting into "To Catch a Predator" territory.
Also man...Even Selina is even commenting on how worthless a character she is.

I was definitely creeped out by that scene, and I'm glad I'm not the only one.
To me, it bordered on pedophilia, and certainly the scene would have played different if a grown man would have said that to Selina (as in, she would have whirled around and kicked the man in the groin).

Yeah, that scene should come with heavy trigger warnings. Where the hell did that come from? And why would Barbara - or anyone, really - say the things she was saying to Selina? "Your beauty is a weapon, as dangerous as any gun or knife." HUH? What the hell does that have to do with anything?
By the way, did this show forget that Renee and Crispin were people or something?
Snark aside, this one was actually pretty good. An interesting idea on how the Red Hood Gang came to be, character development for Alfred, and the Fish scenes actually made some degree of sense. Someone finally called Fish on her scheming, even if it kinda, sorta backfired on him. Though you have to wonder, if she's mutilated herself like this, why would they not just kill her now? She doesn't have a matched set of eyes, so just shoot her in the head, harvest the organs, throw the body into the basement to discourage further rebellion, and it's back to business as usual.
Even the Penguin/Butch scenes were sort of interesting - I honestly have no idea where Butch's allegiances lie. Maybe Falcone has placed him there to report on Cobblepot's plans. He knows the Penguin can't be trusted, and put Butch there to keep tabs on him. Maybe the plan is to have Penguin get the place up and running, and Butch takes over at some point in the future. Who knows.

Yeah, I think the writer's are pushing the whole "this is how the character got to be their far more awesome selves in the future" thing a bit to hard.
As I fast-forward past the boring characters, I was unaware of the pedo-ish nature of the scene. Definitely would have screamed pedo- if it had been a dude saying that and not Barbara.

Except Barbara likes girls...
Exactly... and we all know the stigma that certain youth organizations now have to face in light of previous breaches of trust between adults and young men / young women.
In fact, even if Barbara was straight instead of bi, I would have found that scene disturbing and just plain weird.

I'm fine with seeing how Selina Kyle became Catwoman, but it really feels like the writers are trying to do it all in the first season.

Why... Just... Why?!
Why is Fish still alive? Her scenes make no sense! They aren't even entertaining! They are just infuriating!
Why is Barbara suddenly creepy?
And WTF are they doing to Penguin? Where is the guy who lied and manipulated his way to the top? Why is he suddenly so useless and completely dependent on someone else's protection?
Argh... This series went from incredibly entertaining to o really freaking frustrating!

This! I was a bit annoyed at his reliance on Butch to run the club. They've already shown him as smarter and more cunning. Unless this is all part of another long-con.

Falcone - Victor --> their "brainwashing" of Butch seems like it's a ruse or something... I think Falcone - Victor didn't really brainwash Butch and they're waiting to see if Butch will betray them when Fish comes back. Maybe a test. And Falcone's offering to Penguin "you no longer have to sneak around, you're officially one of my guys" could be true, but I think Falcone knows full well that Penguin cannot rest if he's not completely in charge. So by making an official announcement that he owns him, he knows Penguin will chafe at the bit and start scheming... whether Butch/Fish join Penguin or whether Butch stays loyal to Falcone is the critical variable here...

...but I agree... Gotham is not like the real world. The real world is much more cruel and Falcone would have ordered a "clean-up" at this point. It's like Gotham pulls everyone close to the True Neutral alignment (i.e. the dimension abhors extreme, so you never see true evil or true lawful good, until the superheroes appear at least... those seem to deal in black and whites, with no shades of grey...)

So far Penguin seems quite content with his club. My guess is something will happen to his mom, which will set him off on a roaring rampage of vengeance.
I just want....something to happen with the mob plotline...

Originally the show runners only planned for 16 episodes...and then fox ordered more episodes to bring it up to 22 (I think?)
Its obvious the showrunners are really lost on how to fill out the rest of the season.
Which would explain the spectacular warp speed nosedive in quality quite well.

I kind of liked last night's episode.
When I first saw the title of the show, I thought "WTF?". It eventually made sense, though.
Once again, I just fast-forwarded through the parts with Fish.
I really would prefer they move along with the whole "evil Wayne Enterprises Board". It's getting boring.

![]() |

Yeah, there seems to have been an uptick in quality in the last two episodes. I still was screaming at my screen for the doctor to just shoot Fish and get on with his illegal organ harvesting program, but whatever - Fish apparently has magical plot immunity and there's nothing I can do about it.
They finally made me care a bit more about the Nygma plot, too. I don't really care about him, and the woman involved probably should have reached out to HR about him already, but I really feel bad about the cop she's now dating. He seems like a nice guy, and wants to be friends with Nygma as well. This can only end poorly. :(

It was reported just a few minutes ago, Jada Pinkett Smith is leaving Gotham after this season.

BRAVO!
I just saw this on Facebook and was already coming here to post the good news followed by a "THANK ALL THE GODS, OLD AND NEW!", but you did it first...
No matter! I'm still really freaking happy that this stupid character is gone!

I totally agree, Hama. I really think she's been screwed by bad directing and worse writing.
"I signed for a year, and the year is up."
I'm pretty sure that if the writing staff had any idea what they wanted to do with the character (or why she was integral in the first place), then they would have worked something out.

Its called Dog catches the car syndrome.
A dogs entire life is spent chasing cars. The dog got good at it. Never put any thought into what he'd ever do if he caught one though. The ability to climb over people and get closer to the top is vastly different than what it takes to stay there. Oddly enough they're almost mutually contradictory

Except he's not only having difficulty keeping his new-found power... He's also being extremely incompetent. Not nearly as smart or manipulative as he was before (although he showed some guts in last week's episode).
Besides, the Penguim is supposed to be smart as well (since he does end up being a very powerful and influential criminal).

He's used to manipulating from a sycophantic position. He's NOT used to giving orders. Slightly different skill set (bluff vs diplomacy?) And we know he will be good at this... some day. But for now he's just learning the ropes.
