Question For Veteran GenCon GM's...

Do you know when we get more information on GenCon registrations? Do we get badge numbers before event signups begin? I'm hoping to get some True Dungeon tickets reserved when events open up, and believe I can only do that if I have my registration info.

Being a first time GM for Paizo, I'm not sure how the logistics usually go.

In 2012 I got my badge notification on the 25th of April. In 2013, it was the 30th of April. I'd assume we'll get notification of badges from your GenCon account later this week or next. In any case, you should have the badge notice at least a week before events go live, so you can buy tickets to events during slots you're free.

Thanks! That's perfect. I'm volunteered to front the money for 2 true dungeon runs, and then realized that I wasn't sure I'd actually have badge info to go through with it. Guess I jumped the gun a little and would have known the answer in the next week.

You're welcome. It's better to ask and get confirmation than worry needlessly for the next week or so.

Maybe I'll see you GenCon!

On a different topic:

I was worried since I already bought my badge beforehand. I emailed people over at Gen Con and they told me that I should contact them again after the GM badge is confirmed. They would then reimburse the me for the original purchase with no fee.

On a related topic, anyone know when the gencon event schedule will go up? I want to plan out the rest of my con...

The last 2 years they've made the event schedule live on May 8th, so I'd assume that would hold true this year. Actual event sign up goes live a couple of weeks later (it was May 19th last year and the 20th the year before).

How much are admission badges? I tried looking on their website but I couldn't see a price without creating a new account.

Also, about how much are event tickets? What have people spent at GenCon in the past?

Badges (4-day) were $70 (+10 S&H) back in January. I'm not sure if there was an early purchase discount or not.

Tickets are approx. $2/hr of event IIRC. I think PFS tickets were a straight $6.00. It varies by event.

Event sign-up goes up on May 18th (Noon EST). Normally the list of events have gone up 1-2 weeks before sign-up. So I would have to agree with Sniggevert's May 8th estimate, or it will be at least very close to that date.

As an FYI - I just received notice that I have a badge! So, I am assuming all of the rest of the PFS GMs will be getting this notification soon!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

All but 5 volunteers and GMs now have their badges. I am waiting for updated emails from the other five. See you in August and thanks for volunteering!

I just received my email. As a Tier 1 volunteer, do I need to use the Housing Access Code in that email, or is that covered by you guys at Paizo?

Grand Lodge 4/5 Global Organized Play Coordinator

If you are a tier 1 or 2 GM, I have already reserved hotel rooms for you unless you have advised me you do not need a room. You can ignore the housing code.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks, Mike!

Looking forward to meeting everyone, and experiencing GenCon for the first time!

Awesome...I was going to come in here and ask this very question. Assumed this was the case, but thought it would be very bad to screw that up.

So, when do we GMs meet on Wednesday to pick up badges and stuff? I'm trying to make sure I get there on time since I'm not the one driving.

Also, when do we usually get our scenarios beforehand? Especially those that come out at Gen Con.

Mike and John will announce a GM meeting for the Wednesday afternoon or early evening, where general information about how things will run will be talked about, and questions answered. Last year they then did Q&A about running the special. That's the time/place to get your badge and shirts.

Scenarios will be put into your downloads at least a week before the con - the ones that come out closer to Gen Con will arrive in your inbox closer to the con as well, of course, but that's our occupational hazard for volunteering for those knowing the release schedule! :)

Also, you don't need to print your own chronicle sheets (although I did last year and filled them out in advance to speed things up given the whole running three slots one after the other thing).

After play begins in each slot, marshals will come around to your table with wooden coins (that GMs and players can turn in by twos to roll for boons and other prizes) as well as chronicle sheets if needed, and a player record sheet that you'll turn in to HQ after you run each slot (make sure to mind the ABCD boxes too - it's a new thing for Season 5 so some GMs still aren't used to it yet!)
