I am currently playing a Mystic Theurge in a mythic game and expect to come up against a mythic Worm that Walks soon. This particular WtW is able to regrow himself if even one worm survives. My plan is to defeat his main self then use planar binding to summon outsiders to hunt down any remaining worms (to save us time and it doesn't sound fun hunting every hidden piece down). In order to do so I am thinking the planar bonded outsider needs a way to get quickly to the worms (teleport) and some way to locate them (scry or maybe commune). I would prefer good outsiders. What are some suggestions using either lesser planar binding or planar binding? Any other suggestions?

maybe casting Dimensional Anchor can help? (i think the worm will not teleport no more..)

It depends on how the WtW's ability works. You could try [death] spells that do not target a set number of creatures, such as Soulreaver and Symbol of Death. Those might be able to kill the WtW as a whole, even if not all worms are in the AoE.

My worry (hinted at by the GM) is that this WtW will have hidden away some of the worms as would a lich with its phylactery. Thus the need to hunt them down. I would prefer to have outsiders do that part of the work rather than our party.

Sovereign Court

Well, if a spell kills the whole creature (like the spells I mentioned) that might not be a problem. Since they're all connected to each other (because it's one WtW) the spell would also kill all worms.

But, it depends on the GM's funky monster. It probably won't be that easy.

How about some Inevitables? This kind of persistence sounds right up their alley.

I was also thinking psychopomps since they are all about the dead being dead, not undead or escaping judgment.

The Exchange

Can anybody think of any outsiders that have scent, deathsight, locate creature, or - better yet - all three?

And speaking of inevitables - while maruts might be difficult to call up, if you went to one of them you could probably talk it into assisting. You might have to kill its current target in order to "clear" its priority list, but side quests can be fun.

Marut: this one calculates there are only [ten to the three hundred forty-first power] places for a worm to hide on this planet. search commencing.

I find a Legend Lore spell usually helps, Scrying could work also, but Find The Path is for when you really need to know where to go next.

I'm not sure anything less than Greater Planar Binding/Ally will help, you are Mythic and so is the bad guy.

My guess is that trying to circumvent your GMs plan to make you hunt down all the pieces will simply end in failure. Either let the WtW live, or embrace the quest but don't expect to simply bypass the problem with a spell.

Dark Archive

Easier method than that.
Just don't kill it.

If it regenerates when the main body dies (and only when the main body dies) then simply incapacitate the main body, trap it in a suitable container and use your summoned creatures to take the container somewhere safe and guard it. I'd take it to the boneyard and have the pschopomps stand guard over it for a few thousand years.

I second don't kill it, but if you can manage 8th level spells - trap the soul should work nicely. Incapacitate the main body by hammering on it until it's well below zero hp (just don't do too much damage it can't regenerate). Then inscribe an appropriate gem with trap the soul (and your opponents name). Put the gem on it's unconscious corpse... trap the soul kicks in, no save, no SR...Store the gem safely, and maybe figure out if you can do something useful with the trapped soul of a high level spell caster.

The Exchange

For instance, a soul gem can make a handy paperweight.

Flesh to stone is fun too. There's a possibility (depending on how much the GM likes the tactic) that all the parts of the creature fossilize at the same instant... no matter where they are.

I second the suggestion for a Marut. They have locate creature at will, and dimension door to get them there quickly. Hunting down creatures that cheat death is what they do, too.

I don't think it works that way.

Thanks for all the advice. As for circumventing the GM, he explicitly wants me to find a way to permanently kill the WtW. He is not an oppositional GM, he just plays NPCs with intelligence in the 30's as being very smart and having many contingencies ready. That way I have to be smart too. As my character's intelligence (high 20's) is much higher than my own I am taking advantage of the group intelligence that is the Paizo community to generate ideas.
