Interest check: outsider campaign

Recruitment

I was looking through beastiary 2 and found some outsiders as cr2.
i got to thinking, what if a swarm of voidworms appeared in the real world, then more to the point i thought i wonder if it would be a good idea to have people start out as cr2 outsiders from the beginning of a campaign. i haven't seen anything like this on the forums. and i would like to see people's reactions

edit: i'll check back in about a day

More info would be appreciated.

oh i saw the abilities of the voidworm, silvanshee, the helmet angel, the imp, cacodaaemon, and the like, and i was wondering if people would break the game, have a fun time with it, or both

It could go all ways. Depends on how its run and the expectation going in. Since not all of those have hands and such the way characters play and specialize will change.

I think it would be fun but more information on the type of game could help. Are you wanting to make custom outsiders or use specifically the ones you listed off?

custom, those were just examples, i would allow any outsider from a group, like devils and inevitables that are cr2s sans alignment subtypes and detect alignment. generally there is only 1 per group, but i know demons have 2 and i know that there are other things from the advanced familiar list that i would consider too.

on the type of game i would like it to be would have to be people cursed to live out lives as these things. a curse that a simple break curse will not break. other than that i was wondering if it could work mechanically, if people would abuse the system horribly, and if people would have fun with it.

i personally would allow a hand via your mouth if it was absolutely necessary

Oh, the fun that could be have, suddenly turning into a tiny Outsider...

Or, for that matter, anything suitable to be a Familiar.

A Pit Fiend suddenly demoted to an Imp, who still boasts and plots maniacally, even though he is now the size of a housecat?

Heh, I like that TSP.

I kinda like the idea of being a Silvanshee personally. The idea of being tiny really is interesting.

Dotting for interest. I like the idea.

Also very much interested.

Being a Quasit or a Pseudo/Faeriedragon could be fun

I looked around a little these are the outsiders that would qualify from what i could find:
Paracletus (Aeon)
Silvanshee (Agathion)
Cassisian (Angel)
Lantern Archon (Archon)
Tripurasure (Asura)
Lyrakien (Azata)
Cacodaemon (Daemon)
Dretch (Demon)
Quasit (Demon)
Lemure (? it's only CR 1, Devil)
Imp (Devil)
Doru (Div)
Arbiter (Inevitable)
Shikigami (Kami)
Augur Kyton (Kyton)
Spirit Oni (Oni)
Voidworm (Protean)
Nosoi (Psychopomp)
Cythnigot (Qlippoth)
Raktavarna (Rakshasa)

Slightly intrigued. Would this be, we pick a CR2 outsider and give it a class level and start from there? Or maybe even take a x point buy and build up from there (if we also know what racial modifiers they get to stats of course :))?

Typically, the stats are even numbers -10 and odd numbers -11.

So a voidworm(Str 7, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 8, Wis 8, Cha 13) would have the following adjustments.

Str -4
Dex +6
Con +0
Int -2
Wis -2
Cha +2

I would be very interested in trying this. I never really liked playing the standard races so any chance I have to do something out of the ordinary I jump at.

probably give class levels after leveling up

Possibly interested! More information would be appreciated, though.

I looked at some of the outsiders, and really... not a lot catch my eye. The arbiter has regen, but that's probably it's best feature.

Yes it would be very helpful if you detailed the character creation and available creatures a little more thoroughly, it might also get you more responses.

I would try this.

At work. Dotting for interest.

Question? Only CR 2 Outsiders? Nothing Fey?

I'm pretty much the same, I'm always wanting to play some weird critter or other (or add a low CR monster template) :p As suits the campaign of course, but I've probably played more races outside the core ones than not. I think the strangest character I've made and actually gotten to play was a Young, Human Juju Zombie Ninja, had a ridiculous dex :D

If you upped the CR to 3 you'd then also have all the Mephits and Medium Elementals (and others besides I'm sure)

Could people take a lower CR outsider (small elementals for instance) and start with a class level?

I think that instead of standard level progression, we should get "promotions," such as described in each of the Outsiders' beginning descriptions. We would each evolve into the next-lowest CR Outsider of our type, and continue progressing until endgame, where we'll be pit fiends, balors, solars, etc.

Also... How about the idea of a summonerless Eidolon?

Silver Crusade

I'd love to give this a try though what I'd probably be aiming for would simply be a tiny or so construct outsider. Similar to the Inevitables. I suppose I could use the race builder to craft a humanoid creature of around 20rp for an equivalent CR2.

I'm actually pretty sure such a thing is detailed in one of the Bestiary's. Not sure which one of four it appears in, though.

Unfettered Eidolon.

Well yeah if you want to be all internet savvy about... ;)

sorry been busy with family over easter
as to what would be allowed i would be pretty flexible. though i meant what i said in the title, this is just an interest check to see if people would be interested in this sort of campaign i am being purposefully vague as i don't have the time to do this and i don't want to get peoples hopes up.
i don't know if this is the best place to put the thread in but it does seem to be that way to see if people would be interested

I'm always interested in strange race games.

Alright... Time to look at SRD/PRD and find a tiny widdle guy to be. :P

EDIT: Found one. I think I'm going to be an Arbiter Inevitable. Details of Loktn to follow.

Silver Crusade

Totally stealing my concept there Tsiron :P

Though two inevitable-esque characters could work.

Scarab Sages

I'm very interested. Right now my favorites are the Foo Dog, Shikigami, Soulsliver, and Thoqqua.

I wonder if players really will be all that powerful, considering many won't have arms and hands for weapons and rings or necks for amulets. Backpacks may fall through or burn off of us.

Also, were you thinking of advancing players in classes or in either CR or HD as a creature?

I think we've come to the conclusion that there is great interest in this concept and if you don't act on it soon it may get stolen out from under you.

i wouldn't mind that at all. i was probably going to use this for a home game anyway sometime in the future. if someone made this a game on the forums i might even join in. school is ending soon

class levels would be my preference as i've said before

Time to make a recruitment form, happy!

I think the biggest problem will be how the various outsiders have varying strengths. Only one has Regeneration as far as I know, for example, and that's incredible strong.

is a Pixie Rogue Fine? or how about an Advanced Planetouched? an Advanced Planetouched with a PC class would be CR 1.

Scarab Sages

I'm thinking Soulsliver Ninja would be a fun one. I'm just wondering how the combination of the skills would work.

Scarab Sages

I was doing more research into monster advancement and if you add human classes to monsters of a similar skill set, eg. combat monster with combat classes, spell monster with spell classes, ect., you have to add one to the CR for every class level. So my CR 2 Soulsliver with a single level in Ninja would become a CR 3 monster. Is this ok or should we be looking at CR 1 monsters to compensate for the adjustment in CR?

Pathfinder Pathfinder Accessories Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

If everyone starts CR 2 then it shouldn't be a problem.

Personally I would love to play a Silvanshee, possibly with levels in Oracle or Cleric.

Has anyone actually said they're going to run this?

Nope. It's purely an interest check thread that is pretty checked.

Scarab Sages

Does anyone actually want to run this or do we just want to let it die.

Would not be nice to let it die, now would it? But no-one has stated they want to run it.
