Golarion's S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Does Golarion have a good "stand in" for S.H.I.E.L.D.?

What about HYDRA? Hail HYDRA!

Silver Crusade

The Shory...oh wait!... ;(

Hydra could be Aspis Consortium

Possibly.

I was thinking a more covert faction of the Church of Asmodeus or/and Zon-Kuthon. (The methods fit Norgorbor, but not the goals.)

I know that the Hellknights think of themselves as "S.H.I.E.L.D." but I am not sure that it fits (even after "outed" in the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. is still too covert in its methods for the Hellknights.)

Perhaps the closest to S.H.I.E.L.D. are the Steel Falcons and the Gray Corsairs branches of Andoran's Eagle Knights.

The Black Eagles of Lambreth could be Hydra.

The Eagle Knights (especially the Grey Corsairs and the Twilight Talons) is a good idea.

The Black Eagles are too localized to be a good Hydra analog.

The Aspis Consortium has always reminded me of the British East India Company. The British East India Company had private armies. HYDRA never struck me as an organization interested in commerce. I can't recall if the Aspis Consortium trafficks in slaves.

While the modern HYDRA might be still too covert to be represented by the Hellknights, I would consider their endgame goals to be more closely aligned.

Given they're based out of Cheliax, one of the nations that still trafficks in slavery, I'd say yes (if they can get away with it).

There really isn't a group that's taken on a responsibility for the whole globe itself. The Mendev Crusaders do believe that they are protecting the entire world, but they are entirely focused on the Worldwound. There are groups that have a widespread field of operations, The Aspis Consortioum and the Pathfinder Society, but their aims are generally selfish in nature.

Silver Crusade

If the Silver Crusade got its way, the Pathfinder Society would be much more like S.H.I.E.L.D., but as of right now, there isn't really a perfect analogue.

If the Chelaxian faction had its way, the Pathfinder Society would be much more like HYDRA. (Read the faction goals.)

LOL

Yep. It's why half my PFS characters are Silver Crusade and none are Chelaxian :D

(... or are they? :) )

I'd also say the pathfinder society is probably the closest analogy to SHIELD, but not really a great fit.

As a primarily defensive rather than disruptive organisation, the Hellknights definitely fit SHIELD best in my book. The Steel Falcons are too Neoconservative 'global democratic revolution', whereas SHIELD are about defending vs threats & incursions, right?

I don't really have a great handle on what HYDRA's goals actually are - world domination through science, I guess? Do they even have an ideology? Warmed-over Nazism maybe? There's the Technic League, but they're much more local. HYDRA's methods often resemble the Red Mantis, and the colour fits :) - but Mantis don't seem much into control/domination? Aspis seem the most global and ambitious, the nearest thing to a HYDRA analogue.

The most certainly do not. Stop looking. Nothing to see here.

I run a campaign set in Absalom called 'Agents of the Varlokkur', since the Valokkur are investigators and judges of magical crimes and oddities in Absalom, they work fairly well as a S.H.I.E.L.D style stand in. The only downside is that you need a fairly good reason for them to be operating outside Absalom, the upside being, Absalom is massive. You can do everything without ever leaving. I've set the House of Thrune up as a Hydra style stand in. I then convert PFS scenarios away from being set by the Society and instead offered by the Varlokkur higher ups.

Taldor's lion blades work better than Andoran's eagle knights.

Lion Blades are more secretive and more interested in order as recently showcased in Pathfinder Novel dagger of Trust.
