Erevos - A truly Living Campaign Setting

Product Discussion

Greetings Pathfinders,

Erevos is a living campaign setting compatible with the Pathfinder Role-playing Game. In contrast to previous popular living settings, the community role in Erevos is decisive: registered members decide how the setting evolves. There are no significant NPCs and each PC’s actions matter and are recorded in the Online History Timeline.

Perhaps the most significant feature Erevos offers in terms of game-play is that players will have the opportunity to play ‘Rhapsodies’: short personalized adventures written by professional adventure authors specifically for 1 adventuring party, tailored to the needs of the players (theme preferences, characters backgrounds and goals, players likes and dislikes etc). Characters who participate in rhapsodies will be growing in levels, power, wealth and status in Erevos and thus are called ‘Growing’ characters and have several privileges compared to other characters.
To ensure high adventure quality, the number of growing characters at first will be limited. Spots will be reserved exclusively at a 1st come 1st served basis. Although the exact number of growing characters will be determined during beta test, a good first estimation might be around 1,000 characters.
So, if you want to have a growing character, take a look at our perks list to see which pledge levels guarantee one.

Although growing characters will be available to subscribers only, the campaign setting will be available for free to everyone after development through the website and will be designed to grow into whatever the community desires.

For that reason it is highly interactive: registered members will have their personal online page through which they will be able to vote on important matters, discuss custom creations submitted by other members and upload the stories of their characters.

We'd love to hear your questions and feedback!

Liberty's Edge

Have you ever published anything for Pathfinder before? Or anything at all? Who are your professional adventure authors and what have they published? How do you plan to have 1000+ personalized adventures done in any kind of reasonable time frame?

@ShadowcatX - 1 adventure for 1 adventuring party. So only roughly 200-250 individually catered and crafted adventures. That's all. ;)

I'd really be interested how one can avoid the "Kill X of Y", "Scavenge Z of W"-quests with such a premise...

because 'artificial scarcity' is exactly what I am looking for in a provider

We appreciate the fast replies guys!

ShadowcatX - The professional adventure authors we have already agreed with include among others Ron Lundeen, freelance author for Paizo Publishing and designer and publisher behind Run Amok Games – to view Ron’s Pathfinder writing credits go to http://www.runamokgames.com/related-works.php, Sean Holland freelance adventure author to view Sean's complete resume that includes his writing credits go to http://www.tychesgames.com/WriterResume.html. We have made preliminary agreements with a couple of other writers that are not so well-known and have contacted many other freelance writers who want to participate depending on how the project goes on Indiegogo. I am afraid I can't give out their names as we have not an official agreement yet but I can assure you they are very popular. In any case, having a very strong writers/designers team is THE most important task for us as we want to provide high quality service so we 'll be in constant search to add new experts to the team.

I realize the volume we aim at might seem like a difficult task to accomplish (it is indeed 200 - 250 parties and not 1,000
thx Oceanshieldwolf) and it is a fact that this is our first publishing attempt in Pathfinder which might make one skeptical, but I have been working in the publishing industry for 8 years (although in a field distinctive than rpgs) so I have a very good understanding of the times required, budget and all details necessary. Also, we have made a great deal of market research (in fact we 've been planning this for almost 2 years) and will establish a different production process than the one used in traditional adventures design (I am sorry I can't elaborate more on that).

Endzeitgeist - Our adventures (we call them rhapsodies) will definitely not be as simple as you imply. In fact, you can see a sample rhapsody (including the way feedback will be used) at http://erevos.info/?p=119 at our website.

MC Templar - I am sorry I can't understand your post. What do you mean by 'artificial scarcity'?

Artificial Scarcity is the condition resulting from the limiting of production of goods and services which would otherwise be plentiful and inexpensive. The attempt to drive up perceived value in an item, in this case a growing character subscription slot, by setting an arbitrary limit of availability.

@ Erevos Cs: I did not wish to imply that your adventures would be that simple.

I wanted to suggest that keeping 200-250 personalized adventures for different groups would be something I'd consider next to impossible to accomplish, unless either the stable of authors is huge or the amount of customizations somehow automatized, like the MMORPG-quest-structures I quoted.

So yeah, definitely intrigued, but not convinced so far.

@Everos Cs - I'm guessing MC Templar is NOT looking for artificial scarcity. Am I reading you right MC Templar?

Also, Everos Cs - are you one of the two main people (Yannis, Nikos) listed on your site?

MC Templar - I don't think anyone would be able to produce personalized adventures in a plentiful and inexpensive fashion, at least not the way we will. So limiting the number of growing characters slots is not a marketing trick, it is a necessity if we are to have personal contact with each player. Unfortunately, we currently do not have the resources to deal with an unlimited number of subscribers. Providing high quality service is our #1 goal.

Endzeitgeist - I am glad you find the concept interesting, perhaps if your go through some more details on our website (ie the play guide) you 'll be convinced too! In any case, if you have any further questions I am at your disposal.

Oceanshieldwolf - Yes indeed I am Yannis

Yes, I apologize for the original sarcastic tone, allow me to rephrase in a more direct way. The reason I as a potential consumer find this statement unappealing

"To ensure high adventure quality, the number of growing characters at first will be limited. Spots will be reserved exclusively at a 1st come 1st served basis. Although the exact number of growing characters will be determined during beta test, a good first estimation might be around 1,000 characters"

Is: if i join and find that I enjoy your service, this limitation might prevent friends that I would want to include in your service from being able to enjoy it with me. To ensure the colleagues that I would want to include got the opportunity to do so, we would all need to join early.

This could increase the financial commitment beyond a threshold that I'd feel comfortable with, and restricts my willingness to give the service a fair try. I understand that support levels require limits and a company can only initially commit to support at a level that their staffing allows, but i would feel more comfortable as a consumer not looking at an arbitrary cap, and instead trusting that a company who service gets more popular than they are prepared to support will be highly motivated to scale their support service up to accommodate.

@Erevos CS - how compatible with Pathfinder is Erevos? Or to be blunt, what is the threshold for race and class concepts in Erevos? Gunslingers? Tengu? Non-evil Undead post Darkshed event? Do you get what I'm driving at?

MS Templar - We are definitely willing to scale it up if we can. This is why we say that around 1,000 characters is a first estimation and the exact number will be finalized during b-playtest. But, we are not ready to compromise quality just to get more customers. This project bases a lot on high quality of service. In fact, we believe that if we don't offer the gameplay experience we aim to, it is doomed to fail as generic adventures publishing has a far larger marginal profit at an operational level.

We realize there will be people that will want to bring their friends later on such as yourself. In these cases, if we are not able to include new players in the game, you will have 2 options: a) joining another party and play normally until spots open up and b) get in a waiting list (and 'defer' in essence your subscription) until spots open up for the rest of your friends.

In the end of the day, having a finite number of customers allows to get in direct touch with each one of them and find a way for them to be satisfied (without treating them in a special way compared to others). This is the core of personalized service as we see it and what we plan to do.

Oceanshieldwolf - Erevos is 100% compatible with Pathfinder. Mechanics, rules etc are Pathfinder's. Regarding options on character building (races, classes etc), our goal is to let the community drive Erevos wherever it desires. There will be discussions at our forums and established votes at frequent intervals to see what players like and dislike. Whatever is being voted, we insert it to the game - as simple as that. We make no choices for the players. Obviously, we had to start somewhere. So ie regarding races, initially it will be CRB races that will be available. But a couple of months later, depending on the community's desires, it could be that Erevos has any of the uncommon-rare-unique or custom made race there is, if it has been approved by the community. We set no restrictions. You, the players, decide
