Oh well, there is always next issue.

Congrats all authors.

Once the issue has been released, I will share my unsuccessful story and crunch submissions in this thread.

Congrats everyone who made it! Can't wait to see what's in there.

Is there somewhere for people who didn't make it in to share what they made? Or should that wait until after release? It'd be a shame to miss out on their stuff entirely!

@Helio

You could always pop over and post to the Blazing Nine thread. It's great practice for next year's RPGSS and for writing in general as there are other hopeful freelancers, prior RPGSS placers, and even winners that chime in there!

"What is best in Game Mastering?"

"To crush your PCs, drive them before you, and hear the lamentation of their cohorts, animal companions, familiars and eidolons!"

(Maybe not so) New campaign idea: players pick animal companions, (improved) familiars, eidolons, cohorts as PCs... comes in a bundle with their own slogan: Staying behind and moving on/progressing--hopefully a native speaker can make a wittier version out of it...
[/thread derailment]

@Helio:

Another option would be to post your work here or in the product thread which Liz will start once GenCon is over/the pdf is available for download (whatever happens first).

We will actually be posting the PDF of #11 on July 4th or 5th....at the start of PaizoCon, for all of you that cannot make it.

Tim

Awesome. Alas, I will be one of those that cannot make it due to health complications from earlier. But my friends, family, girlfriend, and I will be happy to see it come July :)

Tim

Oh, Timitius.

On behalf of your kind readership, please allow me to allow you to not have to come in and work on Wayfinder on that great holiday known as Independence Day ;)

(I think it's always 4th July isn't it?)

Okay, I'm going to make some pyramid hunters options right now... When the call comes out, I could have all three already done, so if you change your mind by then I'll be just a bit upset, mind my words. ;)

Oh, no. Tim doesn't really get July 4th off. Posting the PDF at the start of PaizoCon is simultaneous with the delivery of hardcopy issues *at* PaizoCon. Tim usually makes it his personal mission to get copies into the hands of contributors and other important folks who are attending the con.

This doesn't relate directly to Anthony's comment, but I would like to point out that most folks have no idea how much passion and incredible effort Tim puts into every issue of this magazine. He does it for the sole purpose of highlighting the work of others in a publication that people, especially industry professionals, actually want to look at. For people who have dreams of writing, designing or illustrating for RPGs, the value of what he provides is immense, and he doesn't ask anything in return. (Although I'm sure kind words, cookies or the occasional high-quality adult beverage would be appreciated.)

Sorry. Got a little "gushy," there. But I do think it's important to point out from time to time, so we all keep perspective. The whole team contributes--writers, artists, editors, our awesome layout duo--but even as the "official" Assistant Editor-in-Chief, my efforts are paltry in comparison to his. He deserves a lot of respect for what he's doing...and doing so well.

I'm really chuffed to be able to contribute to this issue. I look forward to reading the finished product.

For anyone curious/anxiously waiting, the second round editing assignments just went out to the editors. Basically, it's just another set of eyeballs to give anything a once over Perception check to catch any little pugwampis and mites that have remained invisible until now. Some of us will also be formatting the articles into the standard Wayfinder style so they'll import more smoothly into InDesign for the layout guy(s?).

Scarab Sages

I got the acceptance email, but no corrections requested, as yet.

Though that's not at all unusual. I've only had the content changed twice; once for the Outiko (mini-me Wendigo) losing an SLA, and once for the Safiir, which was a major rewrite, mostly to cover the necessary formatting changes from alternate class to base class. (I think I used up Ryan's and Paris' monthly quota of red pixels on that one.)

So if you got the acceptance, but haven't heard anything further from an editor, it's not reason to panic.
You could be one of the lucky ones whose article goes through with little or no amendments.

Hi, All!

Just popped in to announce that I sent out round 2 editing assignments, last night, but I see that Ms. Slaad has already handled that for me. Thanks!

Snorter is correct, as well. Although we encourage our editors to contact the writers to provide feedback, ask questions, and generally work together to make any improvements, we don't make it a requirement. Not everyone is as comfortable talking to writers about their work, and that's okay.

If the editors make big changes to an article and haven't discussed them with the author, either Tim or I will take that on and communicate with them. That doesn't happen very often, though. Usually, a writer will get contact from at least one of their two editors, and even if they don't, those editors don't usually make more than grammatical changes or unambiguous corrections.

Overall, though, the articles are looking really good. There have been significant changes to some of them, but they were made collaboratively.

Wayfinder #11 is still marching forward...like a conquering army!

I liked to work with Ambrosia and Cheapy. My pieces got changes, but I think they're improved for that. I look forward to the final product.

Thanks, Bardess! I'm glad you're happy with the changes.

I know my editor sent me an email. Forgot to add the bonuses and minus for my creature being small, hehe. Other than that, just some flavor enhancements and it's fine.

A lot of us editors (including myself) will only email you if there are major corrections-- shifting a few digits, adding or deleting commas, correcting grammar, ect we will just put into the article (using track changes) and send-- so if you editor didn't ask about anything there's probably not major reworks needed, or everything made sense when they read it.

Nana-ahah. No backing down here. You agreed to the complementary participation in the soon-to-be released audio edition of WF #11 when sending in your submission.

Concerning the notification by editors: Have you guys who're doing all the beautiful and necessary work behind the scenes weighed the effort of sending the contributors a final--fully corrected but pre-formatting--version of the submissions vs. the increase in appreciation this might give you?

Might be a good lesson for us to realize some of our submissions still have a long way to go until they're ready for publication/up to the standards of WF.

Although I also follow Paris' statement about not everyone being comfortable talking to writers about their work.

But maybe that's just me. *shrugs*

Have you folks seen the latest article on Wes Schneider's blog? He gives a shout out to Wayfinder in the midst of providing really good advice to aspiring writers. Give it a read and share it with others.

I confess I am surprised to see him use the term 'scads'; I've always thought that was Yorkshire slang.

I would love the opportunity to talk with my editor, but I wouldn't want to force the conversation if they're uncomfortable talking with the writers.

Not at all. But then, my grandparents were from Scotland. Maybe it's a regional thingy.

I have been known to use the word "vexed" in proper context. I believe, as gamers, we have a tendency to demonstrate a certain vocabularic quality.

Could be a new Witch ability; Vexing, for minor hex cantrips that merely irritate and cause harumphing.

I think the 1st Ed DMs' Guide has a lot to do with that.

I was in the hospital on drugs, yesterday. I withdraw my request for vexation on those grounds.

Anyone else hoping this will be performed at PaizoCon's Banquet? Anyone?

Scarab Sages

If anyone can play surf guitar, I'd love to see them take a crack at my 'Holiday in Koboldia'.

Spoiler:
So you’ve been to school for a year or two
And you’ve memorised the SRD.
But when it comes to kobolds
That don’t mean sh1t to me.

Quoting EL, xp and CR,
On the Paizo message board
Doesn’t help you invade
A defended cave
And steal a real kobold’s hoard!

It’s time to face
What you most fear!
Appeals for help
Won’t help you here!

What you need, my so-o-on,
What.
You need.
My So-o-on!

Is a holiday in Koboldia
Where they make you wade in cack!
A holiday in Koboldia
Dropping scorpions on your back!

(Surf guitar break)

You’re an optimised sneak,
But your Fort is weak,
And your Will is made of fail.
We’ll see how you smile,
Dropped in the dung pile,
Skewered on a rusty nail.

Oh, you’ll sweat harder
With a spear in your back
From a hidden murder-hole!
You’ll regret
Getting out of your bed
Without your ten-foot pole!

It’s time to go
Where they use their brains!
It’s time to go
Where they deal out pain!

It’s a holiday in Koboldia
Where you do what you’re told!
A holiday in Koboldia
Where PCs get pwned and sold!

Ko – Bold!
Ko – Bold!
Ko – Bold!
Ko – Bold!

Ko – Bold!
Ko – Bold!
Ko – Bold!
Ko – Bold!

(Koboldkoboldkoboldkoboldkoboldkoboldkoboldkobold)

It’s a holiday in Koboldia
Where you do what you’re told!
A holiday in Koboldia
Where PCs get pwned and sold!
