I've just mucked around on the first planet. The creatures can be very dangerous and resources seem scarce. Most features seem to work properly as far as I've experienced.
It's a lot harder to make progress than in Terraria. I think you're expected to build up to a certain point on one planet, then fly to a higher level planet for more valuable resources and greater rewards, and so on.

I've been really enjoying this game. Having not ever played anything like Terraria or Minecraft before, I find the game to be full of charm and character. The music is fantastic, the controls pretty precise, and I've not encountered any bugs to speak of. I thought I found a bug after I'd finished smelting my first bit of diamond ore into a diamond, because my cursor and hotkey bar vanished, but all I'd done was hit F1 (hide the HUD) rather than Escape when exiting the forge menu =P
All told, even with wipes (though I've not experienced any yet), the game is worth the $15.00.
And if/when a wipe happens and I have to start over, I'll know what to expect this time when I build a distress beacon and I won't activate it on the roof of my sweet house! =P

I've been enjoying it, but there are some concerns I've seen.
Like the well-documented balance issues, but the other issue is my focus is exploration and well, after a certain point, I just keep finding more of the same stuff.
You can only see so many Apex research facilities.
Also as an exploration focused guy, I never really dig down past the surface unless situations are really desperate (for fuel).

I've been exploring a bunch too, but my explorations have been by digging, not by walking along the planet's surface. I've made it as far as one planet's core, which was hilarious when I realized that's what the endless sea of lava at the bottom of my screen was.
The only times I really explore the surface are when I need wood. =P

Every planet has something special (and big) somewhere on its surface.
Apex research facilities, sewers, glitch or floran cities, USCM prison colonies, matter-temples, shrines to Kluex, Glitch Castles, etc, etc.
I tend to fly to a planet. Land. Walk across the surface grabbing loose materials. Find the interesting thing (tm), interact with it, and then toddle on.

I had no idea each planet's surface had a point of interest. That's pretty cool. So far in my diggings, I've found a tomb dedicated to an ancient forgotten frog diety (if the statues I looted were any indication, at least), a creepy dungeon, and what I presume was some long lost cache of buried treasure as it was a cavern filled with pixels and 5 chests.

I got burned out on both the game and Chucklefish's poor behaviour as developers.
I did try again recently (recent stable, not nightly), and played for a bit. I made a small house, dug a little, and said 'screw this' and quit.
Maybe I'm just jaded due to my excitement for the game so long ago and subsequent hideous disappointment and the long drag of terrible awfulness that came thereafter.
