Golarion Australia?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

There are a lot of real world analogs for places in Golarion. Minkai is Japan, Ustalav is Romania, the Mwangi Expanse is the Congo, etc.

I've looked around a bit and I wasn't able to find an Australia analog. Sargava has a lot in common with Australia, historically speaking. Alkenstar has a lot in common with Australia, geographically speaking. Am I missing it, or does it not exist?

Sarusan is the Golarion equivalent, iirc.

They haven't really done anything with it yet. Too dangerous.

Sargava (specifically out at Kalabuto / Mneri Plains / Bandu Hills) would probably be the best if you're looking to explore the colonial oppression of the natives plus harsh landscape vibe of Australia. The climate isn't too far off if you're looking for a Queensland / NE Australia vibe.

I'd put a vote in for Katapesh for the more desert oriented side of Australia. A couple of excerpts from 'Dark Markets':
Animals of great strength and beauty inhabit Katapesh, but vicious, dangerous monsters also make their homes here.
For the majority of the year, the sun shines steadily and infuses the land with dry heat.

Downplay the trade aspects and set yourself out West near Solku. Then you get the gritty frontier vibe with gnoll raiders threatening.

So dangerous some of our deadly fauna managed to make it all the way to Varisia (see also: Bunyips).

Also the River Kingdoms has Thylacenes (Tasmanian Tigers).

This. They need to release Epic Mythic before they can let adventures into an Australian Analog

Thanks much, guys! ^_^

Alkenstar works well as an Australia analog. The yanks think they have a monopoly on outlaw gunslingers.

I have been thinking of writing up the Alkenstar Light Horse... I have been doing some research.. I will try write something up soon.

Sarusan.

Sarusan is a good analog for the Dreamtime and pre-colonial Australia.

If you are looking for The Wild Colonial Boy, Captain Thunderbolt, Captain Moonlight, Mad Dog Morgan, The Kelly Gang, Ben Hall and 100's of others then you need a something like Alkenstar.

You can have Eureka, Breaker Morant and Beersheba all in Alkenstar, the terrain and weather suit those stories.

I also wonder if parts of Sarusan resemble New Zealand, such as the Southern Alps, and if there are a people similar to the Maori who inhabit part of the continent in addition to what I presume are an Aboriginal Australian-like people, the Outback, and thylacines.

Grand Lodge

There seems to be an island to the south of Sarusan on the Stolen Map. I wonder if it is meant to represent Tasmania or New Zealand.

Here's Sarusan's wiki page

Kind of depends on what sort of Australian analogue you're looking for- aboriginal wilderness inhabited by people who commune with the First World (or, even cooler, the Dimension of Dreams? Or the latter plus penal colony for undesirables/people or creatures too dangerous to be kept around so-called civilization? (I could see Cheliax doing something like that).

The former could certainly be something remote like Sarusan; the latter could be somewhat closer to the "known" regions of the world.

Cheliax being an infernal version of the British Empire?
