I feel very "meh" about this.

I was all for the Beginner Box for new players, a bonus product in addition to other products, but one of the 3-4 hardcovers.... that makes me less excited.

I see less of a need for dedicated new player support. Especially as new players already have a lot of books looming over them, hurting their wallet. One more just feels mean... Especially with D&D coming out with 5e likely a few short months later.

More investigation suggests this a sort of transition product for Beginner's Box to the Core Rules.

If that is the case, it makes a certain amount of sense.

I also feel pretty meh about it. I mean, the Beginner Box was great, and if this was not a hard cover, I'd be pretty okay with it. But it's one of the three hardcovers of the year and there's only one left. Sadly this would be the first one I pass over.

I don't know, I think it would be worth at least the PDF. I will most likely buy it because I work with new players all the time. There will probably be something in it that even veterans will learn from or use.

So the last hardcover and the second AP are for GenCon?

Well we know the second hardcover will be NPC Codex II, so there is very little space left for a big surprise in 2014.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thanks to TOZ, triomegazero and other attendees. Missing this each year is the most disappointing part of paizocon being so far away.

Very glad to hear about the hardcover gods book, plus the Egypt AP (although that was hardly a surprise given the recent product announcements).

Totally surprised by the beginner's how to book. Having said that, I think it will be one of the most useful books for our table. I appreciate there's a lot who won't get value from it, but looking at the pathfinder rule book section of my shelf certainly leads to an "it's all too hard" feeling for me.

Steve... TOZ IS triomegazero...

Oh he knows. ToZ just deserves twice the praise :)

I refuse to accept that until I receive a satisfactory answer from the entity in question.

It might be worth noting that the strategy guide isn't a part of the rpg subscription. Similarly the inner sea gods book is part of the campaign setting line.

It's possible there's still room for one or two more hardcovers next year beside the bestiary four. There is precedent for additional hardcover books alongside the "traditional" three rpg releases.

Thanks for the news....

I am wondering if the Inner Sea God book will contain obeidence and boons for the core deities as it does not make sense that the greater gods don't give atleast as much as the minor deities do.

Liberty's Edge

Is the green dragon for use with the dragons demand module? If so I am a very happy customer!

You know I am wondering something....does the Inner Sea God book or the Pathfinder Strategy Guide count in the three Hardcover Rulebooks?

Could we actualy have a surprise as they annouce those books at Gencon.?

I believe we're getting the GenCon hardcover and the fall/winter hardcover (which my magic balls tell me it's gonna be NPC Codex 2).

I hope they ain't making any more big books next year, that'd be a killer for the crew...

My Banquet recap.

The inner sea gods book is in the campaign setting line, so I wouldn't expect that to "count". (And I'm glad they're prepared to vary the format from the usual 64 page softcover like that - there have previously been reservations expressed about tinkering with such things).

Harder to say with the strategy guide - it is in the rpg rules product line, but not part of the subscription.

My guess would be that the three books between gen cons will be bestiary 4, strategy guide and NPC codex 2 (with the inner sea gods as an "extra").

Not interested in this "strategy guide" book but the AP and Inner sea god book sounds interesting.

Liberty's Edge

I don't know there might be a lot of cool info in the strategy guide book that even an advanced player might like. I wouldn't knock it until you hear more about it. Lord knows I've seen plenty of people make horrible builds that if it helps just a few of those it will be worth it lol.

Odd. For Mythic, did they remove one of the paths? I remember there being six of them.

If I recall correctly, when the Inner Sea World Guide came out, it did count as one of the released hardcovers, along with Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat, and Bestiary 3. So, it'll be rough if they do four again this year. But, this Strategy guide looks to be only 160 pages so... idk.

They said there'd be six.

Cheapy wrote:

Okay, just making sure. Painlord's list only had five so I wasn't sure if one was getting cut.

Nope!

Mythic Meteor swarm has an average damage of 900 too, iirc.

Save for half.

No, wait. That was the Staff of Eldritch Sovereignty.

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, mythic meteor swarm does around 300+ damage.

Holy carp! That's a lot!

Painlord's chubby fingers are not to be trusted. Forgive any omissions.

Also, I blame beer.

It's okay. Beer is the cause of and the solution to all of my problems :)

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, not impressed yet. Mythic sounds like "regular Pathfinder but MOAR". We'll see how the final print goes. I did hear some interesting things, like hierophants getting abilities like shadow selves that go around healing while the rest one continues fighting.

I don't think so....it will probably be NPC Codex 2 will be in the Bestiary slot for that year. Atleast I hope so....as Destiary saturation (IE monster bloat) is a much bigger problem than rules bloat. Especialy if you have a policy of everything must be in the campaign setting.

Also looking at the product page for the Campaign setting proerders...it seems that there is no Campaign setting books for the months of Jan. and Feb. So the Inner Sea God book I think we are giving up 3 64 page books for...which is fine with me.

Again I think they we have not seen what the Hardcovers are for the coming year.

Thanks for pointing this out.

I was pretty disappointed that this was part of the Core line.
But seeing it is not part of the subscription (as the product page does in fact say) makes all the difference in the world.
Supporting new players is always great. Just don't short change everyone else. Sounds like they are meeting that quite well.

There's no February CS release, but January will have the Wrath of the Righteous Poster Map Folio. (We haven't put up all of the product pages for things revealed in the catalog—just the ones that have pictures and descriptions.)

Backpedalling a bit, Painlord, is there a kitsune kaiju in the B4? That's what I'm getting from your link.

Shadow Lodge

Sadly, no. There is kitsune AND kaiju. Not kitsune kaiju.

What he said. Also, beer. It's all beer's fault.

Kitsune in the Bestiary 4? Hmmm... are they reprinting all of the Tian Xia races?

I talked to Jason B. later and he indicated that the Inner Sea Gods book is separate from the RPG line.

Are you sure about the Strategy Guide not being part of the RPG line? Was that clarifed at the banquet?

So if the Strategy Guide is not part of the RPG line, was the spring book (for the RPG line) not announced or did I just miss it?

It is in the RPG line, just not a subscription item. I suspect it is "the" spring RPG title (but vic has been silent on the subject so far).

I'd still put my money on a currently unrevealed August and October hardcover in the RPGS line, bringing the 2014 number to three hardcover rule books (with inner sea gods and emerald spire as "additional" hardcovers).

You're probably right. Maybe there'll be something super new and exciting for gen con next year. :)

Though a Kitsune Kaiju would be interesting.

I hope the Kitsune is a new type and not a reprint.

That is a bit disappointing if true, especially if it "is" the spring RPG title.

Reason being is my subscription is supposed to cover the Pathfinder RPG line of books, and for whatever reason, doesn't in this case.

Also, I would need to pay for both the PDF and hard cover, if I want both (which I do), of the Strategy Guide.

Its one of their "opt in" products. If you preorder it and have an active RPG subscription when it ships then you'll get the PDF for free. So you still get that benefit, all you have to do is manually preorder it prior to release.

I think it's in response to the flak they got or including the beginner box in the subscriptions - this way, everyone wins (at a cost of one or two mouse clicks).

Due to various delays, I didn't get stuff up until last night, but there are updates on my Indiegogo fundraiser page with banquet announcements taken from the notes I made. Finished up with the rest this morning. Contributors should have received most of them via email already.

Yes, I just saw the product page and was coming here to retract my previous post.

I am completely ok with this.

Yes—this spring, the *big* hardcover is Inner Sea Gods, in the Campaign Setting line.

I’m ok with this, the Campaign Setting line deserves it's hardcover books, as well. Just as long as hardcovers for the Campaign Setting line doesn’t slowly start replacing the RPG line books on a more regular basis.

The timeframe between the Inner Sea Campaign hardcover and now Inner Sea Gods (or approximately around there) would be ok with me.
