We caught him alive, and brought him to the Sherrif's for trial.

But then some ninjas got in and killed him.

Damn ninjas.

One group, captured Tsuto, and he was turned over to the City Jail. Unfortunately a death watch was not placed on his cell, and he had used strips of his own clothing to create a rope and hand hung himself overnight before the party had a chance to question him.

The other group, grappled and bound him, dragging him through the glassworks factory floor to view the glassbound father. In agony, Tsuto twisted away from the group and threw himself into the open furnace, killing himself rather than face the 'justice' of the party members who were good friends of his sister.

We found Ameiko right before finding Tsuto. She had been brutally beaten by Tsuto's goblins, so we were already a bit out for blood. Then he used Stunning Fist on the barbarian, which was followed by failing to overrun the cavalier. That meant that when the barbarian got out of the stun, Tsuto was still there.

The barbarian wasn't happy with Tsuto. Tsuto didn't survive the axe to the face. Or maybe it was the second one that killed him. I'm pretty sure he was dead the third and fourth times the barbarian struck him, though.

Four strikes? He didn't reach the excessive force at 11. I'll allow it. *Bangs gavel*

"And exactly how many times did he fall out of the window?"

"Oh, it's all a bit of a blur, Detective Inspector. I lost count."

My group charmed, questioned, then jailed Tsuto. I personally view Tsuto like Gaius Baltar - capable of profound self-preservation. I plan to have him either taunt Vachedi into a rage or bluff him into coming close to his cell and sap him with a stunning fist, swipe the keys, and sneak back to Thistletop... maybe stopping in at Savah's Armory on the way out and stealing a certain magical repeating crossbow since my party took his shortbow...

My sorcerer actually managed a Charm Person spell on him and convinced him I was legal counsel sent from Magnimmar for his "defense". While "building his case" we got the information from him.

Of course it didn't hurt that this was my second character after the TPK, and it was the original party that fought him in the first place.

Charmed, interrogated and finally stabbed in the chest...our bard won't be CG for long... :)

For us the fight was over in the blink of an eye. Scimitar to the arm, arrow to the chest, failed effort by Tsuto to tumble over the party and down the corridor and finally a glaive to the stomach put him down. We stabilised him and had him hauled off to gaol after going through his pockets. The next morning we sauntered over to interrogate him only to arrive as the guards were panicking. He had smashed the bowl his breakfast gruel was served in and slashed his throat with one of the shards.

My players found him in the basement room of Glassworks, after his night of hard drinking. Fella tried to escape, and almost did it with his good rolls. But ultimately was struck down and taken to custody.
There the party tried to get from him more info (without torture), that wasn't in his journal, but he didn't say anything useful, only that he'll be resurrected by his love. Party wisely tied him up, and sad to the guard to look after him, because they suspected he would try suicide. Ofcourse it wasn't enough, and Tsuto still managed to kill him self bitting his tongue and chocking to dead.
Still, the fun part started after - party came with a plan, to try lure out Ripnugget from Thisletop, for a friendly chat/ambush, presenting him a gift. They considered that stable owner, being so big goblin hater, would be very well known to the goblins. So they decided that his severed head, would be a perfect gift. And since they didn't want to kill him, they just cut of Tsutos dead head. After, they went to the wizard-principal of Turandarok Academy, to enchant it with a Sculpt Corpse spell, so that it would look like stable owners head.

IMC he died last session - the PCs and Shalelu had him cornered, a PC failed a CHA check to get him to surrender; he yelled "For Nualia!" and drove the point of his sword (I'm running it in OSRIC, where he's a Thief) up through his mouth into his brain, then toppled over dead.

Did you kill him the glass works or interrogate him and then deal with him in some other fashion?

The first group I ran through Burnt Offerings captured and tortured him. Well the priest of Gorrum did while the Dirge Bard made sure it didn't go too far. The loss of Tsuto's tongue was completely accidental. He was trying to kill himself by biting off his tongue but the priest stopped him but then realized he was wearing a spike gauntlet.

The second group I am currently running through this adventure captured him, tried to get some information out of him by trying to make him think he was talking to a hallucination of Lnjiku. When that didn't give them all the information they needed they made sure that the Sheriff wasn't around and then fed him to the Blood God Disciple's Eidolon.

He got away from us under the Glassworks - we faced a lot more than the number of goblins listed in the book and he appeared to roll maddeningly well - and we faced him again as part of a group on group battle under Thistletop with Lyrie, Brazthumus (or whatever his name was) and Nualia. That's where he was killed.

In our game he wasn't in love with Nualia, he was terrified of her. Instead he was in love with his half-sister (in a very real and inappropriate way) which was why he returned to Sandpoint to save her from the coming assault and why he reacted so poorly to her rejection.

After reading these, I noticed my Tsuto lived life quite a bit longer. First, I re-rolled him as a Ninja.

When the party encountered him in the Glassworks, he used vanish to escape and head to Nualia's side. I rolled that he was in his room when the party took on Orik, he got down the hall to a safe vantage point and took some shots and then ran to Nualia. He tried to get Nualia to leave and she confessed that she did not love him and she would not leave before Malfeshnekor was her's. Tsuto passed his stealth to sneak out past the party. He came back to locate his belongings from his room and found Nualia and Malfeshnekor dead. In Nualia's journal he found information about Justice Ironbriar being his Father and headed to Magnimar. He met his father who sent him to Xanesha. She saw hope in him, due to his hate for the party and new found greed for power to destroy them, and informed him of Mokmurian and their plan. He head back to his father and found him missing (the party let him live and he ran, vowing never to comeback). Tsuto assumed him dead, as everyone else in the sawmill was dead, and fled to Mokmurian. Tsuto trained more while the party deals with Fort Rannick and the trek to Hook Mountain.

Now he will be a part of the Assault on Sandpoint. The party cleric is in love and engaged with Savah, so Tsuto (Now Ninja 11) is going to kill her and leave a message, swearing revenge on the party because of the loved ones they tore from him.

My group captured him (I was kind and decided to have him try to sucker-punch the barbarian in a sneak attack - the dice promptly betrayed him and he missed, and the group took him down), got him drunk enough to let Charm Person work, convinced him to squeal to save Nualia, and then lived up to their word and captured Nualia alive (along with Lyrie).

Later, Nualia Descended to become a half-fiend in front of Tsuto and Lyrie (who had made a deal with the party) pulled him out of there. Amusingly, Nualia died seconds after Descending, but her half-angel aspect emerged from the Runewell as a toddler and the group is building an orphanage to help keep an eye on her and piss off the Scarnetti family (as it's within sight of Scarnetti Manor).

I considered having Nualia return later... but given that she wasn't summoned, her death probably should be considered permanent.

End result: Tsuto and Lyrie are now a couple and are off who-knows-where. I'd considered their returning later but there's no real reason to do so.

My players fought him under the glassworks. He fled down the tunnel and only the bard and wizard could keep up. When it became clear he couldn't outrun them and he had a good separation from the fighter and cleric, he turned, hoping to kill or stun them and escape. Nearly worked as he dropped the bard to negative hp but the wizard took him out - with an acid dart as I recall. The cleric showed up a few rounds later to stabilize and heal the bard. The party then asked what would happen if they brought him back alive. I told them he would likely be sent off to Magnimar and tried for murder, etc. Their translation based on too much experience with me as a DM was "He'll be sent off to Magnimar, escape and be a problem for us later." Their response: he can stabilize on his own. If he does fine, we'll turn him in. He didn't. Goodbye, Tsuto.

Honestly I didn't find Tsuto all that interesting as an NPC to exercise much effort to keep him around. Though I have paired his narrative with Nualia's as a condemnation of Sandpoint. If it takes a village to raise a child, Sandpoint failed both of these children. Both were bullied, neglected and abused and the townsfolk either participated or did nothing. Paybacks are a b@#$%.

I don't recall Tsuto having much of an issue with the people of the town, just Lonjiku.

Because I'm an argumentative curmudgeon...

Spoiler:
Tsuto's Journal, handout 1-2, AE version p.33: "The raid went about as planned. Few Thistletop goblins perished, and we were able to secure Tobyn’s casket with ease while the rubes were distracted by the rest. I can’t wait until the real raid. This town deserves a burning, that’s for sure." He also killed or arranged for the goblins to kill all the employees of the glassworks in addition to his father.

I always interpreted it as small town bitterness. All very suffocating but not personal like Lonjiku or the way you're implying.

You think they were justified?

‘Justified’ would be a strong word... but the great tragedy of Tsuto Kaijitsu and Nualia Tobyn is that they do have some legitimate grievances and sound reasons to be pissed off with Sandpoint, if not the world in general.

If Ezakien Tobyn had given his daughter room to breathe and be her own person, instead of peremptorily deciding she was going into a nunnery... if he or someone in Sandpoint had disabused its people of their absurd folk-superstitions about aasimar, instead of letting her be a pariah in her own home.... <.< >.>

Tsuto? Lonjiku Kaijitsu was not only a proud and rigid man, he was a rampant hypocrite, considering that he had a bastard daughter in Westcrown who was, IIRC, around Tsuto’s age or a little older. If he’d ever managed in twenty-plus years to forgive his wife or her son for Atsuii’s infidelity... or figured that both he and Atsuii had strayed, and gotten over himself enough to call it even... if Lonjiku hadn’t been so stoked full of anger that the Runewell’s flare was only the last little push he needed to murder his wife....

Making the PCs feel a good dose of “There but for the grace of the Gods” would be a very rewarding RP experience, IMO.

Our group captured Tsuto, attempted to get information from him, but ended up with him stalling for time and sending them on a wild goose chase. Nualia launched a secondary assault on Sandpoint, and freed him. The pair of them along with a mess of Sinspawn confronted the party in the Catacombs. Ultimately, our rogue knocked him unconscious and executed him in front of Nualia and Ameiko-whom he was trying to romance.

Couldn't have said it any better, so just quoting with a big thumbs up.

In our game, the PCs captured Tsuto and had him locked up in the Sandpoint prison. Sadly, he killed himself (not knowing Nualia had been killed and would therefore be unable to resurrect him..) while the PCs were off dealing with other things, meaning they never got to interrogate him.

In our campaign, he was beaten unconscious in the Glassworks. When under interrogation, he resisted everything the PCs could throw at him (no charm person was used). While they cleaned out the Catacombs, Tsuto managed an escape (rolling his bluff vs Sense Motive of guards/Temple Adept brought in to cure his "injuries") to Thistletop. He and Lyrie were barricaded in the room with the Secret Door, and managed to hold the line against the party for a few rounds until the party Fighter succeeded at Bull Rushing him. The party Rogue slipped through behind Tsuto, flanking him with the Fighter. For good measure, the Rogue pulled off a Crit on one of his 2 attacks, just a normal hit with the other. He was cut down right in front of Lyrie, who now has a pathological hate of the PCs now, since she was taken alive.
