Are you still adding to the list of guides? If so heres 2 I've used before and liked.

This is an extremely detailed alchemist build guide:

Alchemist Guide.

and this one for Psionics Vitalist class:

Vitalist Guide.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've not forgotten about the requests for me to write a Hunter guide. It was placed on the back burner while I moved and got situated into a new job, but I have gotten some of the ground work laid out and have been doing some heavy theory crafting to ensure that the guide leads towards actual, functional builds.

Note that this doesn't necessarily mean I'll be done soon, but I am definitely working on it, and there are lots of goodies to play with here.

High damage brutes, swift striking AoO experts, tactical casters, mounted archers, cavalier-alikes, petless beasts who summon, and many, many fiddly little rules bits to poke at.

I'm growing more fond of the class the more I look at it.

The front page isn't updated anymore, but the Guide to the Guides is. Those are on there.

Yeah BZ, why haven't you added that INCREDIBLY DETAILED ALCHEMIST GUIDE WRITTEN BY A MASTER OF GAMING?!

If I put it up, nobody would want to play anything else!

Also, I've had it up for ... Months? Years? How old is that guide now?

Okay so I was definitely wrong about the errata thing. How were you guys so on top of that? Did they announce the reprinting a bit before it happened?

Oh but definitely. I have a player who literally just plays different kinds of alchemists every campaign.

Eh, more like a "petty dabbler" really.

Zenith, how would you feel if I made a bunch of builds for Occult Adventures classes and the Unchained classes?

I feel like your build page could use some new stuff to spruce it up (perhaps even redoing it completely, a lot of the builds are... very old.)

Or maybe I could write a guide on how to create characters...

Shadow Lodge

I would feel great about all of those things! Love to see some unchained rogue builds in particular, but whatever strikes your fancy.

I would love to see some Unchained Rogue builds if you end up choosing to do some of those.

Eh, more like a "petty dabbler" really.

Pretty sure you meant "pretty dabbler", which is correct since I'm very attractive.

Also have a skeleton up for the kineticist guide for those of you who'd like to see this beast grow from the ground up.

Literally nothing on it is done yet aside from the basic frame work, pictures, and flavor quotes, but once it hits the SRD I'll be getting to work hard on it.

Until it has more substance though (and its own thread), I'd rather abstain from including it in the guide to the guides, just for now.

Glad to hear you're on the case. Kineticist seems to have a lot of "moving parts" (pun not intended, I swear), so a guide that helps put all of that together would be nice.

Just tossing out that i would LOVE to see a Mesmerist guide.

Love the flavor text about a dragon, since my Kineticist in an upcoming Carrion Crown game calls himself "the Dragon of Mendev."

What a terrible guide! I learned nothing at all! Very pretty though, for a dabbler. ;)

(J/K, this wasn't trolling, just having fun :P)

Agreed. I read over the class a bit, and I *think* I could make a decent stab at making a jedi/sith flavoured character out of a telekineticist, but there's a lot of fiddly rules bits that I didn't get the chance to really read that closely. I just basically skipped over all the burn and overcharge and such to read the powers.

I hope you got the John Constantine reference.

Speaking of which, someone needs to do the Occultist.

Can't do a guide before playing it well, Occultist is very difficult to assess.

Silver Crusade

Now that the class is on the SRD, work is officially beginning on the Kineticist guide, so everyone keep your eyes ready for this!

At first, I thought you were mistaken. Then I realized they hadn't updated the sidebar yet.

Kineticist.

Here's a Kineticist guide that isn't N Jolly's and doesn't appear to be on BZ's list.

And now it does. Added!

Guide to the Guides

That.... is a bad guide. The writer went into creating the guide viewing every option in the worst possible light, and seems to be comparing, mentally, everything the Kineticist can do to that of optimal class builds.

Tels wrote:

I have to agree, whomever did that guide went into it with a pre-set negative perspective and missed out on all the advantages of the class. Pretty sure all they wanted to do was be the one who made the 1st guide, and ignore any positive potential to the class. :/ If anyone uses that guide, they're going to make a terrible kineticist.

Silver Crusade

Hey BZ, I'm ready to have my kineticist guide included in the GttG, it's not finished yet but it's probably the best resource a lot of people will have to get familiar with talents and such. The link is upthread since the skeleton now links to the guide, and here's the discussion thread.

Oh, and can you remove the [sources] sections in my guides? It was a nice idea, but with most of the guides not including one, I'd rather have it look more uniform with the others.

Added and removed the sources. Congrats on guide number 7!

Any update on Hunter? Any chance you can share what you have right now?

...please?

Thanks, and my streak of doing a guide for every book with a new class in it stands.

Also there's a mesmerist guide out there now.

Great, added to the Guide to the Guides.

Hey, Zenith:

1. I'm making a Class Selection guide (3rd guide now!), it's gonna be a long process but I'll post here when it's viewable.

2. Do you have an email I can send it to get some feedback on the layout etc.?

There is no ACG classes in the guides D:

Hunter?

Shaman?

Arcanist?

Slayer?

Brawler?

Skald?

I did one on the Investigator?

I guess 7/10 don't count. :)

I also see a Bloodrager guide, a Swashbuckler guide, and a Hunter guide.

So apparently, none of the ACG classes count.

The first post doesn't get updated anymore, there's a link that keeps getting posted by Broken Zenith. That's the link you want.

Here you go.

Good to know.

To whomever is maintaining that list, I should point out that my Magus guide is also (Core, APG, ARG, UC, UM) as well as occult adventures. Also, the listed 'subguide to the myrmidarch' link doesn't work.

Shadow Lodge

@ Secret Wizard: Sure! You can reach me at zenithgames.blog@gmail.com Happy to take a look!

@Kurald: I can add the books if you like, but I'm actually moving away from it in general. Thanks for pointing out the myrmidarch guide - I can't find it anywhere else, so I'm taking it down for now. If anybody else has that guide saved, let me know.

That's great, except you need to be a member to see it. Any chance you want to save it as a pdf (or copy the text) and e-mail it to zenithgames.blog@gmail.com ?

I am still surprised to see no Guide for the Psychic.

Still too new?

Well, since you're listing it for other guides, I'd appreciate it if you could list it for mine as well. Otherwise the list makes it seem like the guide is less comprehensive, whereas it's actually more comprehensive.

Aside from that, may I make a suggestion? A number of the guides on your list are full class guides, covering the entire class and all its sub-builds and options. A number of others are actually guides to one particular build or archetype (irrespective of the rest of the class), or in some cases are an explanation of how certain rules work rather than a guide on character building. I feel your list would be more comprehensive if this difference was clear; e.g. by splitting the list into "class guides" and "archetype guides", or perhaps by listing the full class guides at the top. $.02

Sure thing, added the books.

blackbloodtroll wrote:

I think it's that, and how similar it is to a Sage bloodline Sorcerer. Probably also trying to theme the guide is an issue, since there's all sorts of psychic characters in a number of media. Scanners, X-Men, Dark City, numerous manga and anime, etc. Kinda hard to nail down which would fit best for the theme.

Also, I think we're all waiting on a ruling if an Android can actually use psychic magic. Cause if it is, that's pretty much the superior race for about half the disciplines. A race that is guaranteed to always use psychic magic pretty much has the absolute advantage over all other races.

Now, I'd be willing to help anyone who was to make a Psychic Guide. I've been looking through the basic stuff, and I'm exploring the utility of many of the scaling spells. My own analysis currently puts the Faith and Self-Improvement Disciplines as two of the best options.
