Oracle and spells known

Rules Questions

As the oracle knows all cure or inflict spells, does this free spell selection also apply to the two heal or harm spells? Or is it specific to the cure/inflict line?

From the description of the Cleric class:

"a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name"
"an inflict spell is one with “inflict” in its name"

Moreover, the description of the Oracle specifically says:

"In addition to the spells gained by oracles as they gain levels, each oracle also adds all of either the cure spells or the inflict spells to her list of spells known (cure spells include all spells with “cure” in the name, inflict spells include all spells with “inflict” in the name). These spells are added as soon as the oracle is capable of casting them. This choice is made when the oracle gains her first level and cannot be changed."

A Heal spell is called simply 'heal' and it has no 'cure' in the name, so the Oracle does not gain it automatically (much like a Cleric does not spontaneously convert a 6th level spell into a Heal or a Harm spell).

Basically, the only spells an Oracle gains freely are:

1) Cure (Inflict) Light Wounds
2) Cure (Inflict) Moderate Wounds
3) Cure (Inflict) Serious Wounds
4) Cure (Inflict) Critical Wounds
5) Mass Cure (Inflict) Light Wounds
6) Mass Cure (Inflict) Moderate Wounds
7) Mass Cure (Inflict) Serious Wounds
8) Mass Cure (Inflict) Critical Wounds

Which, again, are the only spells a Cleric can spontaneously convert into.

Just my 2c.

The wraith has the gist of it. If the spell doesn't say Cure XXX Wounds it's not a 'Cure' spell. If they'd intended it to be all healing spells it would say exactly that.

So Obscure Object is a cure spell? :-D

Well, if you put it that way... maybe ;D .

Though that is the way i have always read it, I should point out that the spell heal is of the [conjuration (healing)] domain. It may not be rules as written, but the argument can certainly be made that it is intended to include heal / harm

If we are adding any spell from the Conjuration (Healing) then we would add, Restoration, Lesser, Breath of Life, Restoration Greater, Regeneration, etc...

If it doesnt say "CURE" in its name then its not added and can not be spontaneously cast.

Wow, never really paid attention to how many spells fell in the healing domain... Like i said, i have read it as only spells that truly have "cure" in the name. Just making the argument for house rules, incase your dm makes a very hard campaign where you need the extra healing power.

Well saying "Healing domain" is vastly inaccurate. The only spells in the healing domain are those listed in the domain section. Now there are a lot of spells in the Conjuration(healing) subschool -- which isn't the same as the domain, but has some overlap.

Conjuration(healing) subschool

That's what I meant, just getting my terminology in a twist.

And let's not forget the all-time favourite secure shelter (4th level wizard spell)!

It's the "orcs are proficient with sorcerers!" all over again.

Not to mention torches, scorching rays, force effects, and orchids.

Ask your GM if he will approve refluffing the name of "Blessing of Fervor" into "Cure Laziness".

And of course the life mystery adds many of the other healing spells to your spell list, such as heal.
