Explosive Runes as ranged weapon?

Rules Questions

Hi,
after reading the description of explosive runes I have to think at "A Chinese Ghost Story" in some way.

Is it possible to write the rune at lets say a wooden plate, throw it and while the plate is in the air, read it?

"The explosive runes detonate when read" the question is, how near have you be to read it. :)
The Problem I think is the phrase "(close enough to read them)" which indicates the rune can only be readed from close, but why?

Any ideas?
From a game-breaker side, this allows a lot of bombs...
Maybe in this alternative use, the Duration is set to "instant" and you need some sort of Material (special prepared wood plates)

Here is what we'll do, I shall get a sharpie and write a message on a frisbee, then I shall throw said and you will attempt to read the message on the frisbee. If you can read it clearly then we shall allow your exploding runes frisbees.

"Reading the message" means that you have to look at the words and your brain has to begin comprehending them. "Reading the message" is not some type of action, it is what happens when you look at words. You really think someone can read rapidly moving words on an object flying towards them? Make an epicly hard perception check, if yes then ok disc goes boomy boomy.

Also "Close enough to read" most people write in a 8-14 point font, can you read a 8-14 point font from 30 feet away without visual aid?

EDIT -> You want something fun to do with Explosive Runes? Get a bunch of 'index cards' (Parchment makes 10) and make them into business cards, put a Merciful Explosive Runes (16d6 nonlethal force damage) on each one, and hand them to whomever. Shenanigans ensue, alternatively, start a messenger service and do the same with every message you relay.

Sure, reading a spinning frisbee is impossible... but whats with a item moved by mage hand?
And the the font size, you can vary it. :)

I asked because I'm looking for a creative way to use the Ward/Rune-Domain Spells, glyph of warding.. k, you can create a 1 inch circle around your camp and get a BOOM-Alarm.
But Explosive Runes... it's so damn specific 6d6 to the one who read it...

back in 3.5 i used to cast explosive runes on sheets of parchment.. then in battle move it in front of enemys using mage hand.. if they glance at it and see the one letter on it they take damage. it was extremely broken. mage hand got mvp..
