5 feet.

10 feet reach for Large creatures is almost always limited to "tall" (AKA bipedal) creatures.

Thank you for the quick response!

Oops......

I must apologise then, to last night's swallowed cleric

Batts

Liberty's Edge

I don't understand y that is since snakes attcak by body length not body size for instance u looking at a 10. Foot long in the wild the snake could tag you with two thirds of its body length

Liberty's Edge

I know what I need to do that real world situatin but can I use a magic item to qualify for a feat and two can I give the magic I want to my snake because I need the int bonus to qualify for my feat I want for my snake

Grand Lodge

5 year necro, huh?

What is your question?

Liberty's Edge

Head band of vast int can I use it to qelify for a feat on my snake
And two is snakes dont sit back and wait for prey be beside them to attack as I said before snakes strectch their body's

Grand Lodge

I don't understand the question.

Liberty's Edge

My snake int plus one needs int three and since snakes are not repersented in the same way the real wild snakes are the fact that snakes reach out to attack. A threat or prey I need a feat to do this and one I was thinking was headband of vast int to get my feat
For my snake

(I'm going to steer this discussion back to the OP, and its first reply, if nobody minds)

For those reading this and about to exclaim, "wait, I thought large snakes had a reach of 10 feet", remember that James' response is from 5 years ago (before there were any statblocks for a large-sized snake in print).

Every large-sized snake that's been printed in a Bestiary since has had a reach of 10 feet.

Liberty's Edge

So if I find a newer printing of the beastiary I should find a reach attck of 10

The Bestiary doesn't have such a listing, but the Bestiary 2 does have a large sized snake (a giant emperor cobra) with a reach of 10ft. If your snake animal companion is large, it will have a reach of 10ft. Note that animal companions qualify for certain feats regardless of their intelligence, so you don't have to give it a headband in order to use those feats.

Liberty's Edge

Ok so go by beastly 2 then

Liberty's Edge

But in the core rule book says use the bestairy does bestairy 2 over ride bestairy 1

Sczarni

There are no large-sized snakes in Bestiary 1 to go off of.

It might not have the statblock for a large-sized snake, but there are large snakes in the first bestiary.

This large snake has a thick, muscular body and dull green scales decorated with dirty brown stripes.

N Medium animal

-_-

Liberty's Edge

That's the thing the bestairy does have a stat block but no reach attack

Liberty's Edge

Unless I am missing something her

Liberty's Edge

Because when they attacking stretch their body's

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There is no large-sized snake in the Bestiary.

Rikkan was doing a play on words, quoting the descriptive text for the medium-sized snake that is in the Bestiary.

Before Bestiary II was released, the question of how far a snake could reach was a legitimate question. There was no answer anywhere in print.

When Bestiary II was released, it contained *two* different snake statblocks: one that was large-sized, and one that was gargantuan-sized.

The large-sized snake has a reach of 10' (equal to its space) and the gargantuan-sized snake has a reach of 20' (equal to its space).

Using these two statblocks we can safely assume that snakes, in general, have a reach equal to their space.

5' for a medium-sized snake
10' for a large-sized snake
15' for a huge-sized snake
20' for a gargantuan-sized snake
30' for a colossal-sized snake

You needn't rationalize it by constrictor vs viper, or use real-life physics to explain it. We have a statblock (two) that we can infer from, and that's all we need.

Liberty's Edge

Makes sense it's just that I was at a con that brought up the qestion so I have been playing it wright my large snake has a 10 foot reach to body size

Liberty's Edge

I play snake shaman and I chose the constrictor as my animal of choice

Large-sized snake animal companions get reach 10ft, in every instance that I've seen, and in Herolab.

Liberty's Edge

That's what I get as well
