10 feet reach for Large creatures is almost always limited to "tall" (AKA bipedal) creatures.
Thank you for the quick response!

For those reading this and about to exclaim, "wait, I thought large snakes had a reach of 10 feet", remember that James' response is from 5 years ago (before there were any statblocks for a large-sized snake in print).
Every large-sized snake that's been printed in a Bestiary since has had a reach of 10 feet.

The Bestiary doesn't have such a listing, but the Bestiary 2 does have a large sized snake (a giant emperor cobra) with a reach of 10ft. If your snake animal companion is large, it will have a reach of 10ft. Note that animal companions qualify for certain feats regardless of their intelligence, so you don't have to give it a headband in order to use those feats.

There are no large-sized snakes in Bestiary 1 to go off of.
It might not have the statblock for a large-sized snake, but there are large snakes in the first bestiary.
Snake, Constrictor

There is no large-sized snake in the Bestiary.
Rikkan was doing a play on words, quoting the descriptive text for the medium-sized snake that is in the Bestiary.
Before Bestiary II was released, the question of how far a snake could reach was a legitimate question. There was no answer anywhere in print.
When Bestiary II was released, it contained *two* different snake statblocks: one that was large-sized, and one that was gargantuan-sized.
The large-sized snake has a reach of 10' (equal to its space) and the gargantuan-sized snake has a reach of 20' (equal to its space).
Using these two statblocks we can safely assume that snakes, in general, have a reach equal to their space.
5' for a medium-sized snake
10' for a large-sized snake
15' for a huge-sized snake
20' for a gargantuan-sized snake
30' for a colossal-sized snake
You needn't rationalize it by constrictor vs viper, or use real-life physics to explain it. We have a statblock (two) that we can infer from, and that's all we need.
