Steven Brust's and Skyler White's The Incrementalists. I normally hate co-written novels, but in this case it reads like Steve does the male lead's narrative and Skyler the female's, and it works seamlessly.

About 65% through; so far it's one of Brust's very best, back to the kinds of stuff he was playing with in Cowboy Feng's and Agyar (both of which it strongly reminds me of).

Hee hee! Wrong thread, Kirth!

I haven't made it through the psychedelic cumbias in one sitting yet, but what I've listened to thus far rawks!!! (Or cumbias?

Oof, harsh. You have my prayers - it's never fun when the little one (or anyone, really) is sick in the house!

Not until you posted the link. I'm getting a weird, almost hair metal vibe from it. I'm a bit skeptical about the upcoming album, considering how disappointed I was by their last album. 'The Hunter' had a couple of good tracks (for example), but felt oddly disjointed to me, and really just didn't feel like a Mastodon album. I applaud them for changing direction, but I'm still not sure if it's working for them.

Fantastic!

Gone off on a bit of a latin thing as a result - right now, Caravanserai by Santana (Mid 70s jazz-rock Santana = best Santana).

For afters: Sun God by Tierra and Mira Pa Ca by Chango, which is absolutely incredible.

With that band, you don't have to hope. They always 'rawk'.

Jawbreaker - "The Boat Dreams From The Hill"
The Menzingers - "I Don't Wanna Be An A*+*#&# Anymore"
yndi halda - "Illuminate My Heart, My Darling"
KRS-One - "Sound Of Da Police"

At work right now, so I've got a playlist heavy enough to drown out the random noise around me without having to be so loud as to miss people speaking directly to me (though I admit that sometimes I do get into the music so much that I tune that out too).

Current list is the entire Chevelle discography, in chronological order. 1999's Point #1 through to La Gargola, released earlier this month.

Once that's done, I'll probably throw on my Australian band playlist, featuring Calling All Cars, Birds of Tokyo, Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect, Jerk, The Sick Puppies, Ink and Melody Black.

Tornado damage and casualty reports near my home town.

The Menzingers - "Irish Goodbyes"
Saves the Day - "Firefly"
Mike Watt and the Secondmen - "Tied A Reed 'Round My Waist" (live)
The Vanderbuilts - "Come Tomorrow"
Josh & Michelle - "Johnny & June"
