A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 3-6.
Now possessing key information about the mysteries of the Scoured Stars, the Starfinder Society sends the PCs to a distant star system in the Vast. The idea that the non-spacefaring natives of this system have any connection with the distant Scoured Stars seems unlikely, but it's up to the PCs to confirm if a connection does exist. Other factions complicate the situation by having their own unique agendas relating to the distant world and its peaceful inhabitants.
Content in On the Trail of History also contributes to the ongoing goals of the Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) faction. Content in this scenario also contributes to the ongoing year of the Scoured Stars storyline.
So this scenario does have lot of early starfinder society "man dcs are insane on high tier" problemo, though since its also combined with "man early starfinder society has super good boon bonuses" it becomes much more plausible to complete if players happen to have correct boon. Still though encounters are decent and plot is fun. The starship combat is interesting in that winning it is "optional" besides the boon, so it can work as "wow the new mysterious enemy is super tough"(in my case combat lasted three rounds with enemy ship winning).
I do wonder though if Dr ever made come back, lot of early season scenarios have reporting notes about how players treated characters I don't remember having seen come back yet
This scenario is very boring to play with a character that is not a skill monkey. I played this with a soldier, and spent about 2 hours sitting around doing almost nothing.
Also, I have never enjoyed starship combat. It causes long delays as the party has to figure out how to make an effective crew. It then basically turns into sitting around for 5 minutes before making one roll and waiting for 5 more minutes.
A great scenario!
Very tough and original space fight.
Great alien race.
Corporate greed.
Ice tundra (like Hoth).
Interesting NPCs.
Was a blast playing!
Following a lead discovered in Scenario #1-11: In Pursuit of the Scoured Past, First Seeker Elsebo sends the Starfinders on an expedition to a planet that could have a connection to the Scoured Stars incident. Tasked with finding out whatever they can about the planet, and a relic believed to have landed there, the group must deal with a strange environment, and dangerous locals. Unlike similar scenarios, this adventure features a whole lot more than you’d expect, including the mysterious introduction of an important part of the Scoured Stars plot line, and some delightful moral dilemmas. Those of you who have played through #1-05: The First Mandate, will find that one of your boons might earn you an extra hint or two. Overall, this was an enjoyable scenario, that was very different from those that have come before.
The difficulty defenitly ramps up in this scenario, which was a welcome change for us.
The NPCs are all very interesting and cool. The investigation portion could have been fleshed out a lot more however.
Interesting set up leading to the scoured stars.
Due to a lot of differing factors, we had to include two starship scenarios in this month. It was part of our 'growing pains' to transition into two scenarios per month. While I understand starship combat isn't everyone's cup of tea (personally I really enjoy them) you can expect us to avoid having two starship scenarios in a month from now on.
