4/5

A Gargantuan red dragon has been long overdue. And this one is worth the wait. The sculpt and size are great. It could use a good wash to add some depth to it. The wings especially are very flat. But I don't think many people will care when this is placed on the table.

Epic Mini!

5/5

I don't agree with the two biggest complaints: Disproportional wings and position of the wings.

The wings are not disproportional. If you look at the detail, it is the pose of the wings. One is fanned out and the spikes at the end of the wings shows this, while the other is not fanned out. If they were both posed in a way that the dragon fanned out both wings, they'd be the same. It is merely the pose, and it looks great.

As for the Wing not looking like the picture on the box. I spent a minimal amount of time when I got mine adjusting the wings and gently bending it into the pose on the box and it looks great.

Overall it has a lot of detail and it's an epic pose.

I rated the mini 5 stars. What I don't like is that you need to buy a case of minis just to qualify to buy this one. I bought mine on Ebay from someone else who bought a case and I couldn't be happier. I would not pay x dollars to buy a case of minis I don't want just to get the one mini I do want.

Disappointing

2/5

THE GOOD:
Finally a Gargantuan Red Dragon in prepainted plastic!
It is kind of impressive.
You can place a small or medium mini in it´s mouth.

THE BAD:
The left wing is draped around the dragon because of the box packaging.
You can see that this dragon is made of a lot of single pieces that were glued together.
The proportions are all good, only the neck is way too thick.
The dragon looks into the sky as if fighting a bigger foe, the PC minis don´t see it´s face, just the lower jaw.
The way it´s left claw is raised makes no sense until you use a dryer to fix it´s left wing.

THE UGLY:
It´s way less massive than the Gargantuan Shemhazian Demon from the previous set but costs $10 more!

Only for completists, the previous Gargantuan minis are all way better!

Another great addition to the dragon line.

4/5

Let me start by saying that this figure is gorgeous. The detail on the red dragon is fantastic and for those who also have the red dragon evolution set, it's a great addition to the red dragon family.

As great as this figure is though, I did not give it five stars for a couple of reasons. My number one reason for knocking it down a star is the dragon's wings. In looking at my figure, the wings are not proportionate in size. The left wing on the figure is much larger than the right. It's something that may not be noticed at first blush but once you see it, it is hard to ignore. I also don't care for the position of the left wing. It's draped around the body like a cloak. The picture of the figure on the box does not appear to have this issue but my figure and the open box dragon pictured in the production description has the same "problem".

My other complaint is more aesthetic. I would have preferred to have the dragon looking down. This would give it a more menacing appearance for the player characters.

All of that being said, I love the figure and can't wait to use it in my game.

Why the price increase?
Is it that much bigger than the previous dragons (which were all too small by the way - not that it stopped me from buying them)?

Also i would ask you to consider to make them available to non-case buyers (at full price) like the D&D Icons dragons are.
That way you would sell many more of them to collectors.

I mostly buy 2 bricks and don´t always get the gargantuan mini.

Thx

The case incentives are always on sale individually after a period of time - which might be when the next case comes out but they always are eventually.

Thanks for your answer but as i live in germany it is to expensive and troublesome for me to order these later.

At the beginning my local dealer got the case incentive minis separately from the cases and i bought the "Rune Giant", "Gargantuan Blue Dragon" and the "Gargantuan Skeleton Dragon".

Then i didn´t get the "Gargantuan Green Dragon" (or any "Legends of Golarion" minis as the order got lost somehow)
but "Demon Lord Deskari" and the 8 "Wrath of the Righteous" minis booster packs worked out again.

After that i didn´t get the "Gargantuan White Dragon" even though i bought 8 boosters of "Reign of Winter".

Now i´m set to get 16 "Lost Coast" boosters but no "Shemhazian Demon".

That´s kinda sad as i (and some others) would buy all the gargantuan minis if you could order them seperately.

Having seen the Gargantuan Red Dragon in comparison to the Shemhazian Demon on some Gama Trade Show photos i can´t understand the price increase of $10 - the Shemhazian is much more massive and has lots more colours.
So why does this cost 50 bucks - the Gargantuan Silver Dragon (sold seperately)from D&D Icons 2 - Elemental Evil was $29.99!!!

Wouldnt they make more money if they made it more readily available?

Keeping them scarce and using them as an incentive for (predominantly retailers) to order a case may result in lower profit on this specific figure, but probably brings in much more than it loses in increasing sales of the main product (the cases).

How do I preorder this?

I am a Case subscriber. When I add the dragon to my cart, it says I *MUST* add a case to the cart to complete the Order. There *WILL* be a Case in the Order that is ultimately made at subscription time. I do *NOT* want two cases. My wife would kill me.

Second issue: When I put this in my shopping cart, I do not get the case subscriber discout.?

How do we remedy these issues?

I asked about this recently. I believe, if a case is in your order via subscription, and you said you wanted case incentives when you subscribed, the Gargantuan Red Dragon will be automatically included.

So you don't need to order it at all - it's included, discount and all. I'd check over your subscription though, if you can.

Hope this helps. :)

When you subscribed did you select the case only option or did you select the case and the incentive option? If you selected the case and the incentive it is an auto add on. If you are worried it didn't get entered right call Customer Service, they can help.

When will this be available for non subscribers?

Typically, Paizo make promos available once the next case has been released. (At this stage, they need to keep them in stock in case someone signs up for a subscription commencing with the Dungeons Deep set).

The Rusty Dragon is the next set, due to release in January 2016. So my guess would be that these will be available sometime in February.

Liberty's Edge

Is this available yet?

It is. I ordered mine last month and was able to get it in my cart without requiring any other purchases.

Aw man. A fantastic opportunity lost.

I know it's not much comfort, but I recommend keeping an eye on eBay. You might be able to get one yet, hopefully at a price that isn't too ludicrous.

Also, try local game stores. It's recent enough that they might still have one behind the counter.

Don't give up yet! ^_^

Why?
Why discontinue this beautiful piece of player Doom? :)

Nooooooooooooooooo! I had it in my cart, but couldn't get it ordered in time.

Most of the out of stock minis say Unavailable, but this one says Out of Print. Is there a difference? Does Out of Print mean there might be another print run? I'd really really like one, but the secondary market apparently doesn't exist for this mini. I've checked amazon, ebay, and any other site I can think of. There are none at reasonable prices.

Would love to see a reprint of this! Secondary market prices are tenfold... So any chance this will come in reprint?

Yes, there will be a reprint soon, but you'll have to get your paint brushes out, because it will be in the 'Deep Cuts' unpainted line.

Painting mine now.

Huzzah! WizKIds has announced a (second) reprint of this product with an estimated release date October 6, 2021. (Yes, that is in the past. We just heard.)
