You get a monster template! You get a monster template! Everyone gets a template

5/5

This book brings you a selection of some of the most imaginative and in some ways comprehensive template selection available to date. It doesn't matter if your players have seen everything this side of the Tomb of Horrors or are just learning to roll their first d20, this bestiary gives you the tools to alter any monster with a wide variety of templates. If you have Hero Lab, this is an absolute "must buy" product.

I couldnt believe how good it was, quantity and quality both

5/5

I normally roll my eyes at books like this - either goofy silly or otherwise unusable monsters, or just a blathering list of templates written with the passion of a tax return.

This is a wonderful book. The quality of the writing - and art! - is outstanding, the templates and content are interesting and *balanced*.

I added a scalding template to a minotaur and it had my players terrified.

This is the kind of book that gets your mind racing with new ideas and hooks!

Could be first party, for all I care

5/5

Like others have said, this is the single most useful third party book available to Pathfinder GMs. Absolutely fantastic stuff, well done, well executed, and accompanied with great art. Five most deserved stars.

Great book

5/5

Very useful to surprise your players with unexpected twist of old monsters.

5/5

Have 5 stars.

Seriously this is just really good for a GM. Its more than a bestiary or a compilation of templates, or an NPC book. Its all three. In fact its more considering that the templates are often very involved. This massive book effectively multiplies the entries in all the bestiaries and NPC codexes saving me a ton of trouble and making for incredible encounters.

Just out of curiosity, when will we know the release date?

I heard Monday.

Dark Archive

PDF will be released to at least the Kickstarter backers on Monday. They aren't going to send the actual book to the printer until after Gencon, allowing errata to be applied following a public screening of the text. Obviously it will take a while to get the books printed and into the distribution channel after that

Looking forward to it!

Hey folks,

I am the designer on this project (I did the conversion of the old templates and all but a few of the new templates) and the developer for the Hero Lab files. I have been given clearance by the powers that be at Green Ronin to talk about the book (keeping spoilers to a minimum :)).

Hope folks enjoy this book as much as I did writing it.

How many total templates are there? Page Count?

Does each template have at least one piece of art?

Do some templates have more than one Piece of art?

What is the Name of your favorite Template?

Why are you so awesome?

Will you guys finally be able to make a profit off the Advanced Bestiary?

Approximately whats the breakdown of +CR for the templates?

I found out about this book too late and missed the kickstarter, but I will support by buying the book. Where is the most optimal place for me to purchase the book if I want Green Ronin to get the highest profit?

1) There are nearly 150 templates. 30 of them are new.

2&3) Each template has one piece of art. (The art is fantastic IMHO)
4) Hmmm my favorite. All of them? Of the old templates: Transforming Construct (who doesn't like transformers?). Of the new templates: Eldritch (big Lovecraft fan here).
5) Me awesome???
6) You will have to ask Chris about that. I don't work directly for Green Ronin. This project was on a independent developer contract.
7) There is a CR breakdown in the back of the book. It ranges from -1 to +6, and there are a bunch of templates whose CR varies depending on choices taken when assigning the template. The CR range of the samples are 1/3 to 29.

Thanks for answering the questions of someone rabidly awaiting their chance to own the book!

You made a bunch of cool stuff that I will be using in my games. I'd say that qualifies you as "awesome"!

I think you missed out by not making a transforming clockwork thanatotic titan.

While Jeff has done a great job fielding questions, as the developer of this book (and all Pathfinder-compatible products from Green Ronin) I thought I'd get him some back up on the ones he's not briefed on. :)

That is absolutely the plan. :D

We are thrilled if you buy it anywhere. If you have a good local gaming store, I am sure they could use your support, and local store play spaces can be a great way to grow the industry.

All that being said, Green Ronin has an online store, which obviously gives us a bigger slice of sales. Once the book is up for sale in its final form, I am sure it'll be available there.

I considered it. :)

Ha! Now that would have been something. There are a bunch of templates where, after the fact, I thought of new monsters. However, once the art order it out, you are committed.

What does the eldritch template do? WHAT DOES IT DO!? :D

I would tell you, but then you would have to go insane.

Grand Lodge

In the original advanced bestiary, the jotunblood template for giants offered some unique new abilities that differed depending on the type of giant it was being applied to (even going so far as to painstakingly list each giant they could think of with an "all other giants" catch-all option at the end for any future giants in other products). two questions:

1) Did someone do the same with this book, picking out giants from all 4 bestiaries and writing individual options for them?

2) Did the template get updated to account for the fact in Pathfinder giants are humanoids now with a giant subtype?

Yes. And that "someone" is Jeffery, who did an awesome job.

Yep!

So, any updates?

Backers got a preview version last Monday and could give feedback (typos etc.) during the GenCon week. Now they are going to implement that and release the finished product.

Final PDF just went out to Kickstarter backers and to the printers, so purchasable PDF should be Soon™.

SOON! I am very excited to get a hold of this!

I've already started populating my version of Echo Wood with newly templated creatures.

My Players can look forward to things like Poisonous Adult Green Dragon, Dread Goblin Skeletons, a Demon-possessed Ogre Chieftain, a Limb-Jacked Bugbear Torturer and my favorite so far a Consuming Giant Spider that the local goblins call Da Soul Eater

Yeah, this was the very first thing I ever kickstarted, because I loved the original so much. And having the Kickstarter version I can say you guys are gonna love it.

Limb-Jacked? What exactly does that template do?

in simple terms.

replace one arm with that of a construct (in the case of my Bugbear a Clockwork arm from one of the soldiers in the Emerald Spire)

In case you missed the Kickstarter, this is now accepting pre-orders!

Such a nice complement to the Tome of Horrors Complete! :)

I'm really looking forward to this, and I already know it'll be awesome since Green Ronin is involved. Do we have a general estimate of when the pdf version will be released to the general populace?

Liberty's Edge

Any idea when we can get this in stores? Or is it too early to to ask.

I understand that being a 3pp publisher is not an easy job, but I just wish they'd communicate a little bit more. Last I checked, they released the Beta version to backers after Gencon and were in the process of editing it. But it's been awhile after Gencon now, so can't we at least get a progress report?

Well, I already used the old one in my Pathfinder game (the current villains include a Dread Ghoul Goblin Druid and his army of Ghoulblins, he rides copper plated Deinonychuses) and I love it to bits.
So am I going to buy the new one when it comes out?
No. I need a job.
Will I buy one once I have money and it's out?
I'll do what I did last time AND BUY TWO.

Since this was funded on kickstarter, our #1 priority is to keep those folks informed. They got both the beta pdf and an update earlier this month saying the files are off to the printer.

That means we are waiting for the printer to send a proof our way (that happened), do the whole print run, get the print books back and into the distribution chain. Once backers can get their print books and stores can order physical copies of they want to, then the pdf will become available for sale.

There are lots of reasons that's the order things are done in, not the least of which is making sure the people who already paid us for the book get theirs first.

Just got the survey. I noticed the option for PDF delivery only offers RPGnow/DriveThru RPG. What happens if you mark that as NA? Do we just get a download link or what?

Ideally I'd much rather get it through Paizo, since this is where 95% of my RPG PDFs are located, but if it's not possible I understand.

Heh... I did answer DriveThru - but i did add that I would have preferred Paizo.

If Green Ronin would like to provide Kickstarter backers with their PDF through Paizo.com, they should email me so I can arrange this to happen. :)

Are we getting closer to the release date?

Would be good to get the PDF through paizo.

I, too, would like the option to have my download appear through Paizo. I already got it through DTRPG, but the more pdfs I can keep in one place, the better.

On the product itself - this is incredible stuff. Just skimming through my backer pdf got the creative juices flowing something savage. This is a resource that's going to see a lot of use at my table!

Did somebody say PDF?

The general updates for all GR products is here.
Short version regarding Adv Bestiary:
The PDF is available now. Kickstarter backers already have access to it.
The print book should be in from the printer by the end of the month. There will be a pause as it is shipped to KS backers first, and then it'll go through regular distribution.

Can someone make a combined print/pdf option available please?

That decision is not mine to make.

Where can the kickstarter backers get the final pdf version?
