Complete Advanced Feats, All Under One Cover!

The Complete Advanced Feats has been a hit in PDF and is now available in print, and contains 180 new feats for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game!

  • Class guides for Alchemist, Cavalier, Inquisitor, Oracle, Summoner, and Witch
  • 18 detailed character builds with complete progression from levels 1 to 20
  • Character sheet templates customized for Eidolons and character Mounts

While inspired by the new Advanced Players Guide classes, only a small number of our feats are class exclusive. Players of all classes will find a wealth of new options and inspiration ranging from practical teamwork feats like Back to Back, to the wilder offerings such as Create Wondrous Creature.

More than just a list of feats, Complete Advanced Feats strives both for game balance, innovation, and fun in creating feats that in turn make exciting characters. Each feat comes with designer’s commentary on balance, inspiration, and playability. Complete Advanced Feats is simply the best feats book you can buy.

Some of these feats definitely push the envelope for power but considering what they help they are very welcome to me. There are a ton of feats in here that I don't think I'll be able to game without anymore. Not to mention that there is a lot of content for the asking price. Five stars for being a lot of bang for the buck and options ranging from neat to inspiring entire builds.

Does what it says on the tin - really well!

5/5

Having picked up the Advanced Feats for Oracle and Witch, I was pretty certain I'd end up buying all the advanced feats, so I bought this. I'm glad I did; it's a really interesting, useful product.

Obviously, the main part of the book is the feat listing, along with commentary. I've found them to be well thought through and that they really help add flavour to a character and to a party. Having everything together like this also makes it easier to take a feat from one AF and use it for a different class.

The builds are, to my mind, almost as useful as the feats. I'm pretty new to Pathfinder and seeing how a pro puts together a character as it advances has given me more than a few new ideas about where I want to take my characters.

All in all, I think this is a really good product and at a really very reasonable price.

My only suggestion is that it'd be nice if a version were available that included the "Might of the Magus" advanced feats.

Great Resource for All

5/5

I just picked this up at #PaizoCon. It is an excellent source of interesting feats for players & GMs alike. But, my favorite part of the book is all of the commentary, both on the feats and in the sidebars. People looking to transition to professional game design should own this book.

An RPG Resource Review

5/5

OK. So those books of feats for the new classes in the Advanced Player's Guide that you, like me, have been collecting have just been bundled up to make a new product that we don't really need... WRONG! Well, maybe if you only want to play an Oracle, say, you might be better off with just that subset. Even apart from those who clamoured for a print version, this is an advantage to most people and in particular GMs trying to keep track. True, nearly everything here, apart from a few corrections and improvements, is available in the previous products. But it's all laid out in an easy-to-use form, with all the feats ordered in the first section, and then all the 'builds' collected together afterwards.

The Introduction explains some of the background to the work, including the author's long-time fascination with feats and the way in which he approaches them. The preference is for feats that are widely available but which can be used to customise, hone or otherwise fine-tune a character to be just what you want. Advice for both gamemasters and players about thoughtful and balanced use of feats is also included.

So, on to the feats themselves, listed alphabetically. Possibly the best part of each feat description is the 'commentary' giving the author's thoughts on that feat - a real delight both for those who fancy doing a bit of game design themselves and those curious as to how game designers come up with things. For those who don't want to plough through pages and pages of feats in the first instance, there is a summary table that gives feat name, prerequisites if any, and a brief outline of what it enables you to do. There are also sidebar comments of wider interest, some historical anecdotes and overarching commentary covering feat combinations or the approach to an entire group of feats. The historical asides are fascinating, demonstrating how wide-ranging research can become at times - I'm glad I'm not the only one to delve into obscure matters to improve my game!

This is followed by the 'Builds' grouped by each class in turn. Some may deride the entire concept as a very cold and calculating way in which to view your character - yet how many students visit a careers counsellor and plan course combinations to maximise their chances for getting the college place or job that they fancy? Of late, players applying to my games often include a 'build' profile in their submission, even if they don't stick to it once I call for a level-up; and it doesn't hurt to have some idea of where you think you are going, even if it changes with time. (The character planning development as an open-handed combatant has suddenly wondered just how she'll incorporate the intelligent magic dagger she's just bonded with...) It is certainly an interesting approach, and there is nothing more infuriating as hearing about a neat feat and then finding at your next levelling point that you have nowhere the right prerequisites for it, and yet if only you'd... Most GMs are not too happy at a retrofit, so you are stuck, whereas with a bit of forethought you'd have the feat you want. Also, as you read through these 'Builds' plenty of role-playing possibilities are presented, some are so full of concept ideas that whole character backgrounds can be spawned from merely reading them.

If you didn't get the earlier class-by-class products, this is a better work to go for: even if you did the value of the compilation outweighs the sneaking feeling that you've already paid for this material!

A collected works book.

The Complete Advanced Feats by Open Design

This product is 77 pages long. It starts with a cover, intro and credits. (4 pages)

Feats (37 pages)
This is where all the new feats are for the new classes from the Advance Players Guide are located. There is 30 feats for each of the six new classes for a total of 180 feats.

Class Builds (32 pages)
This section has 3 builds for each of the six classes for a total of 18 builds. Each build is built on a theme with advice on how to build the class and advance it up the levels.

It ends with a OGL, Eidolon sheet, Cavalier Mount sheet and back cover(4 pages)

Closing thoughts. This is just the 6 Advanced Feats for the new APG classes all collected into a single book with the errata applied. Art work is mostly black and white and good, layout and editing are good. I am unsure just what or how much has changed but the majority is unchanged. So you can see my full reviews of each products on Paizo.com. Which makes rating this a bit hard. I gave the other products ratings of one 3.5, two 4, two 4.5 and one 5 star review. So for this I am going to settle on a 4.5, it fixed a couple of the issues. It is nice to have them all collected together. For those that own the previous ones you don't need this of course. But I plan to pick up the print version myself and that is where I see it's greatest value, that and for those who never bought them before.

Trust me, I'm a Succubus.

Thanks DM!

Just to answer some possible questions about the product.

What's New?
There is no new rules material in The Complete Advanced Feats. I expanded a little on the character build descriptions so they had better legs as NPC's and were a bit more fun to read. I was especially happy with The Mighty Mutant build in that regard.

A small handful of feats got very minor tweaks or wording corrections based on feedback from the prior books. Likely the changes would be hard to spot unless you were really looking hard for them. Commentary was added to a few feats that had none in the first two pdfs.

There is additional art in the compile version as I think befits a print product. Christophe Swall did new interior pieces and I included art we commissioned for the Netbook of Feats back in the day by Darrel Langley. I really like the illustration for Oversize Weapon.

In addition to the Eidolon record sheet there is also a mount/animal companion record sheet included that was not in the cavalier book.

Print vs PDF: any differences?
Aside from the obvious, the print version is strictly a black and white interior with a color cover. The PDF is full color, though at least half the interior art is still black and white.

So why the compilation?
The first reason was that it was a common request by reviewers and readers of the original series.
The second reason is it makes for a large enough book to create a print copy of, which was the second most common request, reaches a wider audience, and tickles me pink as its my first print book.

Yeah I wasn't sure what all if anything had been errated. i figured some of it had been. Still it is a better bargain to buy them this way and having a print one is handy. Just curious are you guys going to be offering a print/PDF bundle?

That would make me buy this again (I already have the original PDFs).

Excellent question. I will query the Kobold King tomorrow at Paizo Con on this subject and find out the answer. :)

Sigfried,

Congrats on the compilation book for print. Are you planing to do more feats books in the future (ultimate magic, ultimate combat?)

Word on PDF/Print bundle.

Wolfgang (grand Kobold of Open Design) says that he is going to get that set up though it may take a couple days as they will be recovering from Paizo Con. No details yet but we are on the case to try and make it happen.

Thanks Kindly! Advanced Feats: Might of the Magus should make its appearance soon. :)

At Paizo Con it was announced that Ultimate Combat would ship with some 250 feats! I'm unsure whether there will be much design room left to do feats based on those classes so I think that one will be "wait and see."

Emboldened by the good success of Advanced Feats, I'm definitely going to keep working at the writing and try to make some more fun projects for Pathfinder.

The print/PDF bundle is set up and available now in the Kobold Store, and I have requested it for the Paizo store as well, so you'll see it here shortly.

Hi Liz/Wolfgang

I purchased the Print version as soon as I was aware it was available (third-party print product have a history of selling-out if you don't jump on them immediately) Paizo order #1688179 June 10 2011 (arrived yesterday) so apparently I missed the opportunity to bundle in the PDF at no additional cost by a mere four days. Is there any chance of adding the PDF to my downloads post-purchase? It seems unfortunate to have to pay an additional $9.99 now for the PDF or miss out.

Thanks,
DarkWhite

There is one (technical) problem with this product - with the release of the Magus book, it's no longer "Complete".

Anybody who hasn't bought some (or all) of the individual releases of the series should still pick this up, though. I'm just wondering if we'll see three more PDFs for the Ninja, Gunslinger, and Samurai in a few months.

The announcement that Ultimate Combat would include 250 feats has given me pause in trying to get started on those classes before the book comes out. That is a whole lot of feats and the overlap between my ideas and Paizo's is likely to be big. Even going for core classes it's kind of daunting.

I try to not overlap as much as I can, it just seems like the right thing to do. Feats in ultimate magic were really narrow which left me lots of room to work in.

So if I can find 30 feats for those classes that are worthy and aren't already covered I'll definitely be doing them but it may not be for a month or so after I get to see the feats in Ultimate Combat.

I have a question about the Complete Advanced Feats. I noticed on page 31 that part of the text was hidden behind the picture. The last sentence on that page starts with "Battle lances tended to resemble...." Then on page 32 at the top of the page start a sentence with ".....strap or special hilt to keep them from slipping out of your..."

Would it be possible to find out what was behind the picture? I am curious blue.

Sorry about that! :( something that crept into the print version for some reason.

The full feat is as follows (the commentary is the part cut off)

Shaft and Shield (Combat)
You can wield two-handed spear-like weapons in one hand.
Prerequisite: BAB +1
Benefit: You can wield two-handed spear-like weapons in one hand.
Special: You do not gain any additional damage normally granted for two-handed weapons when using this feat. Weapons covered by this feat include the lance, longspear, ranseur, and spear.
Commentary - Today when we think of a lance, we imagine the classic jousting lance, but those were specifically made for tournaments. Battle lances tended to resemble normal spears, although for charging they often included a strap or special hilt to keep them from slipping out of your hand on impact.

@Sigfried Trent,

Thanks for the response. I sort of figured that the missing part was part of the Commentary. But I wanted to be sure.

In the table for advanced feats, it has the prereqs for Lighten Weapon as Str 13 and BAB +1, and Improved Lighten Weapon Str 13 and BAB +3. In the text descriptions, Lighten the BAB +3, and Improved is BAB +8. Which is the one intended? BTW Love the book. My DM bought it and is letting us use the feats within, and it adds a lot of flavor and fun.

Thanks, sorry for the slow reply. As I recall that was something I changed on a late edit after reviewing feedback on the originally published feats. Some felt lighten weapon was a bit strong so I upped the requirements a tad. Go with the actual feat descriptions rather than the table.

Is there any way to get the Hero Lab files for this? I notice the separate pdfs (Witch, Summoner, Alchemist) each come with the Hero Lab file. So even if all of them haven't been converted for Hero Lab, getting the ones that have would be very nice.

Gninja notified! Alchemist, Summoner, and Witch HeroLab files have been added to the download for this product.

While this did indeed include the HeroLab files for the Alchemist, Summoner, and Witch; I noticed there are several feats that are unique to this book that did not make it into HeroLabs such as Elemental Boost. Any chance of including those in the future?

I went ahead and reviewed up.

I like that Lighten Weapon got in there. Mixed with other products the Fuhrer Bradley Fighter became real.
