1 person marked this as a favorite.

thank you guys!!

I had loads of fun and hope to see and play with you again!

Now about Sarajevo, I am sorry to say that every time there is a spark of hope there will be a convention there or any kind of event, in the end, it fizzles.
I am still hopeful and if an opportunity shows up, I will try to go and see how things are locally and if something can get organized.

Alas, things are as before.. only city in the region with regular PFS is still Zagreb

I keep a calendar of all public events in Croatia. I know its not helpful considering the question but thats the best we can do atm.

Thank you a lot :)

My table didn't get so much paranoid as frustrated.
Well, I hope more tables will have a positive experience.

I wish I could read the whole thing, as the author intended

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

I GMed it today. We started off well but by the end the whole thing just crashed and burned.

I hope its just me not getting stuff but the opinion I have now is there are so many contrived things, I'm not even sure what was I supposed to do and how to translate them into play?

I really wanted to make it work.

So here are things that bothered me:

- not that it mattered but - you have a ghoran seed. It sprouts a ghoran. He then does what? plants the same seed? plants himself? just grows a new body? I absolutely got lost with the whole ghoran thing.
Also, what was supposed to happen with that experimental seed? seems like the same thing as with regular ghorans.

- ok, so there is the Verdant Spark. Then it kills ghorans with radiation but later on makes green stuff grow. Am I missing something?

- ghorans died, got buried and planted a tree on top of them - why is that supposedly the reason verdant spark doesn't talk with the tree?
Does it carry some sort of resentment? Also if there is no love between that tree and the spark why does the protection of Mercy look like a huge aspen growing out of *that* tree? Again am I seriously completely missing things?

- what is the purpose of the quarrel between blacksmiths and carpenters again? it seemed like a completely local thing and I couldn't find any relevance to anything. Is it just a red herring?
But why even mention it in the letter?

- the cloaker - oh boy - the shadow puppet dance thing - completely lost me on that. What was it supposed to do except scare people, flap around and then flee when the doll jumps in?
The way PCs follow the neverending stream of bats is yet another contrived way to push PCs.
Why did it share the cave with the Spark? Was there some sort of real, intentional connection with the Spark? Or was it just convenience?
OK, I get he is worshiping madness but so many things seemed so random - why killing only travelers and not villagers? why not just plucking one of them on the main square and making it more urgent for PCs to do something?

- why is the dolls neck broken and sprouts a tree? Is it the copy of what happened to Amenira?

I had a great group, I really wanted to make it a great session but the more I think of the story, less sense I get and I'm just frustrated at this point.
Even with that, kudos to John for being available online for questions. I read how the process went so I'm not too surprised there are many problems.

I just want to figure out the whole thing before I run it again (well, in case I ever dare to do a redo)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

congrats!! :D

I don't know if you have this possibility yet but for example in Croatia its possible to buy prepaid cards that can be used for online shopping.
They sell them here on newsstands

Grand Lodge

Hello!

I can't help much with serbian stores (only one that had any rpg books has a very weird selection: http://www.dragon.rs/?wpsc_product_category=rpg )but I'd suggest you try Book depository cause they don't charge extra for shipping, or just good old Amazon (optionally Amazon UK)

Other than that, if you swing by Osijek or Zagreb, you can always find a game (you can use our Warhorn schedule to check out what is being played)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Awesome!! Congrats!

Grand Lodge

well, I gave them point buy (20pts) and they are fairly competent players so the characters are well built. We're using mythinc rules and they love them.

Other than that, now that we're halfway trough Citadel, I started combining encounters at points - that reduces tedious string of encounters and beefs up existing important ones.

I loved whoever made 6player conversions of kingmaker but alas there is no such things on this thread for now.

One more thing - has anyone been leveling up NPCs?
I'm using them a lot (outside the missions mostly) but it would still be handy to have their stats.. i should upgrade them in HeroLab ut I can't find the time atm

Grand Lodge

what's the main way you guys buff up encounters? I have a 6 people table and we're in the middle of Citadel of Drezen.. one of the bosses went down like nothing so I'm looking at ways to keep them challenged

Grand Lodge

I let my players pretty much enjoy the whole shebang.
Also I'll add in as much as I see fit if they happen to start destroying all the enemies - that seems preferable than nerfing their shinies

Hooray!! I hope to play at your table sometimes :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Yes, I've noticed several math mistakes (eg. 1st level monk melee attacks)
We saw it in the middle of convention play so no time to do much.
I hope these will be fixed soon.

I'll ask around

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Congrats!!

Loved playing with you Rob and looking forward to it again!! Congrats!

well I hope to play with you guys next time!

In the off case some of you wish to venture my way, I will be posting convention dates as I get them.
Cons here don't get exact dates till just a few months in advance.

"worst" case scenario, I plan to be back at Paizocon UK next year ;)

I just want to say thank you Mike for your amazing support and a big thank you to all the players and GMs who *are* the PFS in our area. Hopefully we continue to grow and one day finally get the first Bosnian group of players (if any of you are out there, let me know!)

I'm happy and honored to be of service to my PFS crowd

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Just a question for people travelling from London.. Anyone want to share gas expence? I'm flying in on Friday, early afternoon through Heathrow (around 14:30)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Unfortunately, closest are guys in Turkey and me in Zagreb, Croatia.
OTOH, if you can find a few players, nothing stops you from starting a PFS group. Thats how it usually starts ;)

If I can assist with any questions or suggestions, you can eithe ask here or send me an email

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

OK, so now that we established who is where, what would be your question?
Do you need a suggestion what to pick up first or something more general?

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Well, closest are both Turkey and Croatia
Language wise, croatian language is deffinitely closer to serbian :)

Zdravo ekipa!

If I can be of any assistance, by all means, email me at pathfinder.croatia@gmail.com

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

"Slave Pits" rely heavily on the group playing - I GMed it under 3.5h but next run went well over 5 and one group did it 7h (another GM)!

So if your players work as a great team, play smart (not try to smash every single thing in their way) - its an excellent choice

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

what tier?

Grand Lodge

.. because travelling over the Pole is such a joyous thing? :p

Its important to keep the perspective here. If you're playing an AP that features a Long Journey, its good to have the experience f what a long journey actually is - a really tedious, demanding and exhausting affair.

Just try reading about Shackletons last expedition to the South pole

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Congrats!! :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

congrats! I hope to meet you at GenCon UK this year ;)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Congrats!!

So how does one do 10 sessions in a weekend without loosing your mind? :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

oh boy.. looks like the party tonight consists of a gunslinger, tank (whatever the class) and two barbarians

I'll report the outcome

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

With great pleasure I'm presenting you our newest VL, Marko Zilic, GM extraordinaire and all together a great guy.

Welcome to the ranks Marko!

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

after GMing High Tier last night, Tholrist was brought down by blinded channeling Kyra and his 'strongest' spells (levelwise) did almost *nothing* to a group of two N and three Chaotic characters

what am I missing?

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Welcome! :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

congrats!!

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

link is not working anymore.. did anyone compile the traits? Many players are asking

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Welcome new fellow minions!! :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Congrats!!

and I'll be tailing ya, fellow-lady-VC ;)

actually i believe the plan is to march the undead army to virlych.

I better get on with the read trough then :D

There is that problem - where would Vrood go next and when is the good time for him to crop up again?

Grand Lodge

Ah, the problem solved itself.. Two new PCs went back to Feldgrau and witnessed the DArk Riders being given the urn and the skull..

So, why would vrood walk all the way to Thrushmoor? Wouldnt an undead army be quite incospicuous,? Its a long walk anyway

Grand Lodge

I am in a simmilar situation with PCs fleeing after Vrood killed (and did something awfull with the body) one of them. Gruesome but logical turn of events.

Biggest problem is how to give them the info on Dark Riders? I'm thinking if leaving a note makes any sense (a new player is joining and probably will be going to Feldgrau with a new PC from the player who lost her char) but I don't want it to seem trivial.. I do like the idea of blatant showing off by AA tho, by leaving a note intentionally

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

It shows only on PFS part of the Messageboards

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Hopefully, I'll be checking out Australian scene some time in my lifetime ;)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

as a player I make it a point to buy my own CLW wands and healing stuff because it's really poor form (in my opinion) to expect the cleric to provide all healing on his/her own. If I don't have UMD, I'll ask another character to cast it when needed.

And in the sitution Rogue Eidolon described, I'd side with the 'lets chip in' crowd, especially in the described case - playing squishy characters makes me appreciate front liners.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Excellent work Gornil and the team! I am amazed and delighted :D

I really love it when players play smart and immersed.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I usually make index cards, hand them out at the beginning so players put on their names, Perception and whatever else we need for the scenario (I like to keep it simple).

On the back they write what they bought so at the end its easier to fill in the chronicles.

When the combat starts, I ask each what their Ini roll is and scribble it on their index card (on the side), arrange in order and we're good to go - much easier than the shouting of numbers all around and I can look up fast if I need a passive Perc or something (helps with immersion)

Grand Lodge

I didn't GM/play much of the third season but 'Gods Market' was an excellent blend of all things - lots of roleplay, dangerous enviroment made even more so by players (warehouse) and a very strong finish

'Hydra's Fang' stood out for me as an excellently done railroad - it's possible to pass most of the encounters either with diplomacy or force and the pace of the whole thing holds players very involved. Also, different tactical 'problems' make encounters less of a slugfest and much more a great action movie scenes.

"Devil we Know III: Crypt of Fools" - I LOVED the fact that the puzzle here is in the handouts and not only there was no need to translate anything but the players all huddled together to figure it out and got a real sense of accomplishment. Moar pls!!
The rest of the adventure was also fun but the puzzle really stood out for me.

"Before the Dawn I" - no need to gloss more over how much fun it is to throw the PCs somewhere very dangerous (and far) without backup and make them think how to get what they want. And survive :D

Rogue Eidolon wrote:

It dropped 3 out of 4 PCs, but the sole Ezren left standing managed to take a chokepoint to block off most of his unconscious allies from nonlethal coup de graces and take total defenses, waving his staff and shouting "You shall not pass!"

Hahahaha! Brilliant :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

one more thing - the NPCs in this encounter aren't in it to kill the PCs so unless GM dice are very hot, there shouldn't be PC deaths.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

As always, we should stick with the Tactics written in the scenario. Its acceptable to change them if the party does something unexpected of course (after all, an intelligent enemy will adapt).

In my experience of GMing this part, every group had a different experience - some walked all over it (even a newbie group!) some were squashed and robbed at the end (including a very experienced group).

So I'd definitely encourage you to stick with the written, at least 'til you gauge what the party is going to do. Usually, the charging halfling will wither drop one front line PC or get dropped and that will show you what to do next.
After round 2-3, all bets are off anyway ;)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Have you considered playing an Adventure Path?

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

That is correct, the GM doesn't get any Boons

Guide to PFSOP p.31
"The GM does not get any special boons bestowed by a
Chronicle sheet, such as free magical treasure, regional
boons, or future bonus dice rolls. The GM also does not
get a Day Job check."

What you do get p.30:
"any GM who runs
a scenario gets full credit for that scenario applied to
one of her own characters, as detailed under Replaying
Scenarios on page 16. “Full credit” means the GM gets the
following: +1 XP for the scenario, 100% of the Max Gold
for the subtier most appropriate to the GM’s character,
and 2 PP (or, for a slow advancement track character, +1/2
XP, 1 PP, and 50% of the Max Gold for the subtier most
appropriate to the GM’s character)."

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Wellcome to the ranks! :D

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 **

Almost none of my home group players play PFS. I still GM APs with them (Carrion Crown is the current one) and all is well.
