History:
The third son of an old Chelaxian noble family, he found himself as all Chelaxian middle children do- ignored by his parents in favor of the heir and youngest children and left to his own devices. None of his spoiled siblings missed him when he left Westcrown for the upstart Korvosa, where his aptitude for the arcane arts found him a place in the elite Acadamae. His distant cousins accepted him with open arms, despite not showing the family trait: wickedness. Although he's more mild of temperament than his extended family, he did inherit the family affinity for conjuring devils and binding to his will.
He was making strides among his classmates and earning respect for his talents that he long craved at home, when the messenger arrived. His father, mother, and older brothers were dead- and the family seat, businesses, and responsibilities had fallen to him. The mystery behind their deaths has not been solved, he was thrust into the light as the new Viscount. Scandalized by their murder, and more distraught than he believed he could be for his cold hearted family, he returned home.
He temporarily halted his education to right his sinking family's ship. Upon returning to Westcrown he began to understand just how rotten the core of his upbringing had become. Politics and scandal rules; good, innocent people suffer under demonic lash. His plan to return to Korsova has disappeared and has been replaced with some on the job training. With reluctance, he wades into the jaws of the political scene, while spending long nights pouring over long forgotten family tomes.
Corneleous is a young Chelaxian. He keeps his hair longer than stylish, and wears stylish last season fashions. He's tall and thickly built, with a small pair of spectacles perched on his nose. The glasses, and his multipouched belt give away his more scholarly habits.
Tactics:
Out of combat: The Viscount finds himself frequently distracted; often listening to voices at the edge of his hearing- perhaps even muttering back. They may be figments of his imagination, but may also be the denizens of hell probing the barrier of his mind. While a normal man might be driven insane by such sounds, Corneleous uses them to gain strength over his summons: having access to otherworldly knowledge can come in handy. Melee If buffed with mage armor, he might find himself swinging his heirloom staff at an enemy. More than likely, though, he retreats far enough to cast a summon or engage in ranged combat.
Ranged combat: If he has cover or does not need to move, his crossbow is his first choice. Moving, or against an enemy that looks like it could shrug off a crossbow bolt (high ac), he'd use his acid dart ability.
General spellcasting tactics The Viscount knows his summons are currently weak, so he seeks to maximize their use by having it appear behind enemies to flank, or choosing a highly mobile summons for distraction. Devils are his strongest summon (+1hp/die) and all summons are +4str & con. Against a large group, particularly in an enclosed area, he loves to grease up the floor and watch enemies flounder.
