From distant Tien Xia, Shikibu was but a spawn of an Oni Lord. Taught to destroy and pillage, Shikibu was eventually subdued and captured by a samurai. The samurai took pity on Shikibu, spared him and taught him the ways of Bushi-do. Despite his teachings, Shikibu found it hard to overcome his heritage; pride, vanity, and anger were very strong in him. One evening, after a party where the samurai entertained a few guests from the Pathfinder Society, and where Shikibu consumed too much sake, Shikibu was insulted by one of the foreigners - enraged, he called a challenge, but did not wait for a response from the Gaijin; striking him down in one blow. The samurai stripped Shikibu of his daisho and honor, disowning him from his house. Shikibu's fate was put in the hands of the men from the west. But when he bowed to accept his dishonorable seppuku, the Gaijin refused - instead they took Shikibu back with them and set him on a track of repentance.
Shikibu-san still tries to hold onto the tenants of Bushi-do, but is brash and quick to anger. He far to often asks for forgiveness instead of for permission, and drinks far more than an honorable man should. Lacking a daisho, Shikibu utilizes nontraditional weapons: an Ono, a Dai Tsuchi, a Otsuchi, and a Daikyu. Despite all his restraint problems, Shikibu-san is otherwise very reserved and resolute - unable to be led astray by those who believe him weak-willed.
His Ono is named Ohno: a murderess known for dealing killing blows when only a light tap would have resolved the situation. She is a personification of wrath, and has been carved with the Thassalonian rune for Wrath on the axe-head. Ohno the Ono has been redeemed through Shikibu's adventures. Sure she is still cruel, but she has also learned to be merciful.
