appearance:

Quain is a heavily built man with grey skin, eyes and hair, typical of the Oreads, heritage of their shaitan ancestors. Stoic and sullen, he bears numerous scars, traces of floggings, beatings and other violences that are the lot of Cheliax prisoners. But the most impressive one runs across the back of his head where a large line devoid of hair is clearly marked.
Physically fit due to his martial training, maintained throughout the solitary confinement and years in prison, he has a young voice that does not fit with his stature and masks his youth behind a gruff façade. Since his arrival in the prison, he has taken time to assess all the other ones without speaking more than necessary to mas khis uneasiness.

background:

Quan is native of the Menador Mountains in Isger, an was born in a small isolated village that had barely survived the Goblinoid wars. As he was 10 and still considered a boy, he was awoken before the sunrise one morning by strange gurgling noises. Raising and existing his family house, he localized the noise easily with his enhanced night vision, an heritage few of his family possessed. One of the night sentry, was lying, half dead, his throat slashed in the shadow of the village wooden palisade. Raising the alarm, he picked the sentry weapon and ran to the gates, finding them wide open and swarmed by an organized group of human mercenaries. This was his last vision as he felt a sharp blow on the back of his head and dropped as dead on the ground. Luckily for him, his Oread blood was strong and some of his bones were as strong as stone. One of such had stopped the blow that would have felled anyone else.
When he awoke again as the sun was about to set, the village was empty, save the corpses of the village defenders and of anyone who had tried to resist the slavers troop. All others had been taken and loaded into heavy wagons. As the only free man of his family and by the almost tribal laws of his village, he had to avenge them and to free them if possible. Taking hold of provisions and of one of his father daggers on his corpse, he set out to follow the slavers. Obviously, even without a heavy load, an injured boy of 10 had no chances to catch a well organized caravan. However, he could easily follow their tracks up to the Cheliax border and beyond. Having to taking time to hunt or forage for food and to hide whenever he was spotted, he arrived in the Chelaxian town of Lumak where a slave market was held too late to learn of the destiny of his people, but could easily identify the slaver group that had traded them. This link was all he had and, having crossed half the country, he was not about to stop at the first obstacle. To get to this man, he had to be tough, trained and take his time. To survive, first, he took any jobs he could find, running messages, carrying goods. In his spare minutes, he would train at any skills he could, observe guards practising in their barracks; so much that he became a sort of mascot to them. Four years later, the day came as he finally managed to encounter his target alone and drunk at night, coming back home from a town party. Quain had grown so much that it was more an execution than a fight. However, despite all his childish hopes, the dying man did not reveal where he had sold his people but managed to hold him long enough for the guard to catch him.
His sentence should have been death, but as it is almost mandatory in Cheliax, bribes can set a man free or at least stay the executioner’s blade. Quain could not pay the price but the city guards held a collect for him and many people who had been thwarted by the slaver’s deals contributed. To respect forms, his sentence was commuted to solitary prison with weekly lashing or beating for as long as it pleased the slaver family. Growing alone to adulthood in a cell for years could break anyone but those who have a set path. That will to find his family was stronger and still is after all those years. Today, there is a hope, he is stronger than ever and he has nothing to lose.
