Physical Description:
A glance at Marilis Vahn from across the bar and one would be forgiven for thinking she was a young varisian girl. Bright exhuberant scarves dance across her face whilst a flailing green dress brushes against her olive skin. However, her brilliant blonde hair, emerald green eyes and elaborate tattoos snaking up her neck suggest a background a touch more exotic.
Background:
Marilis grew up among the Varisian wanderers with her father, a kind caring man who loved her more than life itself. She always knew she was different from the others but her father would say nothing of it only that her mother was "the most beautiful woman in all varisia". At the age of 10 her arcane spark ignited during a particular energetic dance routine causing lights and images to dance around her. She had her tatooing ceremony the next day, she still remembers the look of pride on her fathers face.
Five years ago she came to Sandpoint with her father to trade some goods. When the sun had set they took a walk around the town at night when a hooded figure emerged from the shadows and cut her father down in a rain of blood and steel. She was gripped by fear and could do nothing but watch as the figure advanced on her as well, only to be chased off by the sherrif, Belor Hemlock. She held her fathers body and sobbed herself into unconsciousness.
She awoke a week later in the hagfish tavern. Jargie Quinn, the local proprietor, had been watching over her. He told her that her father's killer, a man named chopper, had been found and killed as he attempted to escape. He also said that strange lights had been dancing over her whilst she slept and thought she was under some sort of spell. Regardless, he told her she was welcome and could stay as long as she liked, but that no one had come from the rest of her people.
Nowadays Marilis is a charming beautiful young woman who rarely lets the sadness of her past interfere with her present happiness. She still stays at the hagfish tavern, cooking, cleaning, serving customers and dancing for entertainment, often mixing in a bit of magic for flair. Jargie Quinn treats her like a daughter and she is very close to belor hemlock, who is very protective of her (she calls him uncle belor). She is proud of her Varisian heritage and her magic, even if she doesnt really understand it. She is also curious about her elven heritage after uncle belor told her she was half elf and desperatly would like to meet an elf for herself. Whilst she abhores violence and shys away from conflict she adores her adopted people (as they adore her) and would do anything to protect them.
