Elrivor:

Elrivor quickly moved to the side of the street as the Demon passed. The crowd party easily before the Glabrezu, the Vanguard of the Noble house that passed by. Elrivor hated them…all of them, the Drow Noble houses. They had destroyed his house those many years ago.
The house of Zzzr’Tal had been a small noble house, but a proud one. Elrivor had been born as a true noble, his legacy laid out before him.
That was before his mother had crossed Matron Ulavakasa, of house Vexidyre. A dispute over trade had erupted the “skirmish”, but Vexidyre decided to make an example of our little house. Within a week, my legacy was crushed and I was the lone survivor, hiding on the streets. None of the other houses cared one bit what happened to a minor house.
But his birthright saw him through.
More powerful than most of those around him he learned as he went, taking spells and weapons from those he had to, killing many along his way. Slowly he plied his skill for over 70 years. He didn’t particularly enjoy it or hate, it just had to be done. Without a house he had to settle on something to satisfy his goals…mainly around revenge.
Mercenaries. He didn’t care much for them, but they were needed and had access to equipment, magic, and spells.
He asked around and eventually found a company not directly tied to a Noble House, the Wovirl. He went to their grounds and followed some of their members. He looked for the right opportunity for an introduction. An opportunity presented itself when a drow guard, not affiliated with the company decided he was itching for a fight...so I killed this skilled Drow guard in front of one of their commanders. Elrivor waited near the tavern until the cammander left. He approached the intimidating Drow and asked them if they could use a good sword hand and that I was looking for work. The fight had earned him a discussion with the commander over the use of magic with fighting, which I had learned to be rather good at.
He told me to report to the gates and he would think about my request. When I showed up he was waiting for me. He ordered me to fight him right then and there...it was a short fight, one he used to bring my ego down a notch and solidify who was in charge.
He was impressed enough to offer me a low level position in the company and I accepted, thinking I should easily be able to work my way up, or at least that is what I had imagined. The group was much more powerful than they appeared, their leader, Nathmir the Sage, kept their true strength hidden from the houses, in case they might become jealous and decide to act against them.
It took some time but Elrivor eventually fit in with the disciplined warriors and became a member of their order, although he had yet to really prove himself…
