The youngest of 10 children, Aago Belwas was generally considered the runt of the litter. At 6'6" and 270 pounds, he was shorter by two inches than his sister and by nearly a foot than his father and eldest brother. His father, Shaggo, was fond of telling the family about how his father, Targo the Great, had left his Shoanti tribe as a young man to see the world. Targo had paid his way as a wrestler and performer in tournaments of strength and eventually earned enough money to start a business as a merchant, facilitating trades between the friendlier tribes and the Varisians. When Shaggo inherited his father's businesses and money, he'd discovered quickly enough that he didn't have the talent or the charisma that his father had possessed. So he'd sold off most of father's holdings and settled in Sandpoint for a more peaceful life, living off much of his inheritance and raising his children. In such a large family of healthy, constantly brawling young men and women, Aago discovered early on that he had to find other ways to hold his own against his siblings for he not only possessed a lesser build, but was less inclined toward strength of arm as well. Through a combination of trial and error and a certain degree of inspired ingenuity, Aago discovered a natural talent for the martial arts that impressed even his father. Recognizing that such talent must be developed, Shaggo sent Aago away to train with other masters of the arts. The world beyond Sandpoint was a wonder to the young man. He embraced the differences in culture, foods and peoples and delighted in a world where he towered over most everyone. Though he wasn't always the strongest amongst his instructor's students, he continued to display an imagination that both delighted and exasperated his instructors. Whenever Aago was told that a particular stance or strike was insufficent or less effective, the young man would find driven to prove them wrong. That determination alongside a general disinterest in following the rules that most monasteries insisted upon eventually got Aago in enough trouble that it was rather firmly suggested that he go out into the world and put what he'd learnt to use. The masters fully expected him to fail miserably and return again cowed and ready to submit. Aago, on the other hand, was only too happy to prove them wrong and set about seeking adventure and enjoyment wherever he could find it. This was going pretty smoothly when Aago literally ran into the last person he expected to see outside of Sandpoint: Shalelu Andosana. Though it had been some years since he'd last seen her, Aago was surprised to find that she was every bit as beautiful and alluring as he'd remembered. Now that he was older and considerably more accomplished he was determined to woo her. Naturally, a woman as mysterious and self-possessed as Shalelu would be a challenge to win over for any man but Aago was accustomed to achieving the impossible. He decided he would just have to do whatever it took, even if it meant returning to Sandpoint. Description:
At 6'6" tall and heavy of build, Aago is a large man in form and personality, given to deep laughs and embellished gestures. He prefers to dress simply, in loose fitting trousers and a belted tunic that allows him, as he puts it, "plenty of room to expand." His straight black hair tumbles down to his shoulders and his broad face is lined with a reasonably trimmed beard that is a little overlong at the chin. His face is weathered with wind and sun but the clear blue eyes are creased from a lifetime of laughter and smiles. |
