One Last Look at Dungeons Deep

Friday, June 12, 2015

Last week, I previewed some Pathfinder Battles prepainted plastic figures from the upcoming set, Dungeons Deep that had originally leaked to the Internet thanks to trade show photos, which often don’t reveal the figures in the best possible light, or even from a decent angle. And, while I’m eager to show off a bunch more figures from Dungeons Deep now being shipped to paizo.com customers and appearing in retail stores, today seems like the best time to make up for that omission.

So, without further ado, here are most (if not all) of the remaining Dungeons Deep figures, now available as singles or in booster boxes from paizo.com and elsewhere. Thanks especially to our crack Community Team members Liz Courts and Chris Lambertz for taking snazzy new photos of the final figures from the entire set, which you can browse in our singles gallery here.

First up this week is the Nuglub Gremlin, one of my favorite creatures from Bestiary 2! The Nuglub’s three eyes shine with a pearlescent blue paint that adds a touch of color to this dastardly figure. The Nuglub Gremlin is a Small, common figure.

The Pukwudgie was originally intended for the Reign of Winter set, but got bumped to Dungeons Deep for a variety of reasons. Its statistics appear in Bestiary 3. The final figure features some really nice paintwork for a Small common, including picked-out fingernails and a wash on the garment that adds a nice sense of three-dimensionality.

The Andrazku Demon is another refugee from the Reign of Winter set. Its statistics appear in Pathfinder Adventure Path #69: "Maiden, Mother, Crone", which among other things details powers like “icewalking” and “mutilating gouge.” WizKids did a nice job with the Andrazku’s sculpt, giving the creature a great, menacing scream. The Andrazku Demon is a common, Medium figure.

Here we have the Dire Bat, a long-anticipated creature for the line. Based on the illustration from page 30 of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary, the mini depicts the Dire Bat hovering in flight, facing its enemies directly. This pose gives it a strange, almost humanoid appearance that, for my money, makes the figure great as a proxy for any number of bat-like foes. The Dire Bat is a Large, uncommon figure.

Dungeons Deep is the first set to greatly benefit from the amazing art in the NPC Codex, and almost as soon as we saw the Half-Orc Adept on page 245, we knew we needed to add him to a Pathfinder Battles set. With a mace, blade, and a nasty mask, this guy works great for any orcish villain or for a decidedly nasty player character. The Half-Orc Adept is a Medium, rare figure.

Our last figure today actually comes from the very first volume of the Pathfinder Adventure Path—the adventuring hero Eando Kline! The first 18 Pathfinder Journals depicted Eando’s field reports to his Pathfinder Society masters, and in the years since his 2007 debut we’ve come to think of old Eando as the “iconic Pathfinder.” He’s subsequently appeared on the cover of the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, and he was an NPC in the Serpent’s Skull Adventure Path. And we definitely haven’t seen the last of him, either. Based on fantastic art by PaizoCon 2015 Artist Guest of Honor Jason A. Engle, Eando Kline is a GREAT choice for a player character figure, an NPC Pathfinder Society agent, or really just any sweet-looking human warrior with a sword. Eando is one of my favorite figures in the set, and not just for reasons of nostalgia. Eando Kline is a Medium, rare figure.

All of these figures and more than 40 others are currently available in the Dungeons Deep set. Snap them up before they’re gone forever!

Until next week, I remain…

I'm not complaining, I like the mini, but I have a genuine question about the Andrazku. Why is every version of it produced (plastic, pawn and paper) always Medium sized when they have a daily righteous might?

Wow I really like that nuglub goblin. Good stuff as usual.

Darrell, maybe the AndRazku used it up before the sculptors saw them? Maybe if we're nice we could get a large one later. Problem is many creatures have the ability to magically change size and I don't think the line is really big enough to accomodate all of those. Never say never though, I pleaded a long time for a Mi-Go and elder thing. Bit like I'm pleading for the spriggan I hope we'll get soon, one of each size.

Thanks for the last look Erik. I sit here keenly awaiting the mail so I can bust open my cases for the goodies within. I was glad to see the codex creatures/NPCs, so much of the artwork in those books is miniature worthy. I'm sad the Orc is rare, but I can see why, I'll just have to buy more. On that note:

couple quick questions, perhaps not just for you.

Why are the Dungeons Deep minis for sale but not the dressing from the set, these are all unavailable?

What was you special inclusion in this set? Are you still slipping in a quirky of your own choice or has that stopped? Yithian?

Any word on iconics sets 4-6?

Super excited for Eando Kline, of all people. ^_^

That's a nasty looking dire bat compared to others! I like it. In the end they all look good, but none absolutely WOW me (maybe the half-orc adept).

Hey Erik when will we ever see a taiga giant?

Awesome minis, especially the Half-Orc Adept and Eando Kline. Impressive details!

...so anyway, just in passing, I was wondering if there is any news on when a Shardra mini of any sort might be making its way into the mix.

This is in no way influenced by any outside forces. Just my own curiosity. Seriously.

[casual]Shardra is also in the Wrath of the Righteous PACG, so her mini would be very useful there. Along with Enora, Adowyn, and Crow.[/casual]

A few drive-by answers.

1) Still no precise word on Iconic Heroes Sets 4-6. They are in the works, and I will let you guys know more on release schedule as soon as I know more myself. We've approved all of the sculpts at this point, and they're fantastic.

2) No plans for a taiga giant at present. I honestly hadn't really considered it. What do other people think?

3) Not sure why dungeon dressing isn't up on the site. I'll check on Monday.

4) Shardra will appear in an upcoming Iconic Heroes set.

5) No real "special inclusions" based solely on my taste in this set, though I did come up with the idea and worked to make sure that the chest and the mimic looked pretty much exactly the same.

I'm kind of burnt out on giants. Other than that, excited for all of that stuff. ^_^

While I'd like a Taiga giant, it's a little further down my "want" list for huges, below the main 4 types of huge elementals.

I'd definitely like one eventually.

Would it be possible to do a set of 4 huge elementals as a case incentive instead of a garg? I imagine it'd cost a little bit more, but I'd personally buy 3 or 4 of it.

Yeah Taiga giants are important for a few reasons

1) They appear in a few adventure paths and modules.
2) They were an early Pathfinder monster creation. First appearing in adventure path #4
3) They are a huge giant that looks really cool.
4) With the frequent use they have really become a staple encounter.

Taiga giants are in my top 10 needed huges. They really fit the mold of a more savage giant. In fact the only other huge sized giants I'd want are great cyclops, and inverted giant.

I always want more giants. Taiga giant is a big, well huge really, plus for me; Then I still want more of the 'standard' Giants, especially after seeing the art in the Giantslayer path.

Alex is 1000% on the mark as far as I'm concerned, great cyclops? Yeas please. Inverted giant (using art from Herald of the IL)? Oh. My. God. Yes!!!!

Sadly all these options are huge and we've heard naught about the future of the huge mini.

I world like a shadow giant though. And a tomb giant.

Hmmm, I may be the wrong person to ask since I seem to want many Giants still. Burnt out on Giants? Piffle I say, one can never have too many Giants.

These all look terrific. Only a week until I get my case. :)

Dear Erik, I already asked, in vain, in another thread informations about the avalaibility of the Iconic Heroes 3 box in Europe. Can you give me any news (the ship is sunked, non european shop has ordered the models, ecc.) because I am in doubt to order from Paizo shop (risking the custom fees) or waitning that the box arrive in Europe (but risking that it will be sold out).

What do you suggest to me?

Thanks for your efforts. I am one of the many that really like these sets.

Check your staffs personal collections and recent purchases. I am sure you will find that they have purchased every extra one opened to date. Theses are excellent candidates for propo minis, repainted or not, just because I think they will be that popular.

Giants, giants, and more giants please.

Erik, any idea yet on the time frame for the inclusion of dressing pieces for sale on the website?

Scarab Sages

I stumbled across this in the Customer Service forum:

"Our warehouse will add these if and when we have singles available to add. Currently they have not had any of these to add to inventory."

Hopefully they'll get some in soon.

What happened to the dressing minis from the cases that were opened?

Isn't that what Paizo does, open up cases that they get from WizKids and sell them as singles?

There's just been a miscommunication here. We're working on it.

I am so glad you did. I think that is one of the best features of the two figures.

To Erik and Vic:

I just want to say that this was the best paint job of any set I've received so far from you guys. Even the dwarves that some of the others have complained about, while not perfect, are leagues better than Feiya. Definitely serviceable and I have no qualms putting them on my table. I am extremely happy with how this set turned out, and definitely appreciate the effort.

I've expressed my hesitation towards the next set due to my fear that there will be too many non-combat NPCs included in the set, however, in an effort to show my appreciation for the efforts you and your team have put towards improving the paint quality, I will maintain my subscription for a case of Rusty Dragon Inn no matter the figures you choose to include in it.

Great job and thank you!

Ok, that’s good to hear Vic.

Just to speak on behalf of my post, I originally was responding off the “if we have singles to add (for the dressing minis)”.

Thanks for the reply.
