Introducing: Ekkie!

Hello, Pathfinders!

This year's Free RPG Day is Saturday, June 20, and the card game team has whipped up something special for those of you who like free stuff. Introducing... Ekkie!

Ekkie, like her compatriot Ranzak, likes to eat, stab, and steal, not necessarily in that order. She comes with a character card, a token card, and a role card, and she can be played with any Adventure Card Game Base Set.

Ekkie will initially be available at stores participating in Free RPG Day on June 20. We'll be sending her free to Pathfinder Adventure Card Game subscribers with their July shipment, and she'll also be available for sale at Paizo's Gen Con booth and at paizo.com starting July 30.

Before you ask: We're still testing her to see if she'll be usable in Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild organized play. If she's allowed to join the party, you'll probably be playing her with the Fighter Class Deck or Ranger Class Deck. But first, meet Ekkie in her own words:

Hello, Longshanks Hearing Ekkie's Words through Glowing Box! I first meet friendly longshanks in town named Magnimar. Ekkie was just trying to make ends meet, put food in mouth and roof on head, so Ekkie joined fearsome goblin guild named Nightsoil Marauders. Is good, scary name: Nightsoil Marauders!

Anyway, Ekkie was sneaking through a longshank house filled with shinies and foods, taking things for the guild and for Ekkie, when the mangiest, barkiest, poodliest of dogmeats sneaks up on me and starts barking. "Bark!" it says. "Bark bark bark! Bark bark bark!" Always alerting the sleeping longshanks. Poodles are the WORST. And poodles don't even taste good, mostly because the curly hairs get stuck between goblin teeth.

THE WORST!

Stupid poodle will not shut up, so longshanks come and chase me up and down and all around the town. That part is fun, but eventually they catch up to me and want all this talking and doing and not stealing and not eating. Nightsoil Marauders are—what is longshanks words again?—"unfortunate casualties," so Ekkie is alone again. But longshanks? Longshanks are "noble adventurers," which means sneaking and stabbing and eating, but with getting paid afterward. Seems like a good gig to Ekkie. So now, Ekkie is an adventurer!

I was so worried that the RPG superstar post meant no PACG post today. Then I saw this and was surprised with perhaps the most awesome post since Ranzak was announced. Fantastic!

You should ask for an artist credit tag on the blog post, like other artists get when their art appears. And I am totally making a special monster card out of that poodle art.

I like the ties to goblins that have appeared in other places, in this case, Rise of the Goblin Guild.

Can't wait; would love to try a goblin in OP.

FYI:
Plarg is Ekkie's brother.
Who's now a skull.
Who talks to her.

Of course, Ekkie was told that she would be recording her voice so that Longshankses could LISTEN to her, because reading her would imply that her words were written down. Right?!?!

Some of the guys I play PFS with love Ekkie. One of them even insisted on redeeming her rather than executing her. They're going to be thrilled about her making another appearance.

Another pesky goblin? Sounds fun! Too bad Free RPG Day this year will come several months after the new Base Set is released. We wouldn't be able to start Wrath with Ekkie. Maybe her Character Sheet will be available at least?

When I (re)played this I used [I]message[I] to make Ekkie hear Ploog give her advice. If she'd ever put the skull down I'd have used [I]pprestidigitation[I] to levitate the skull for the full ghost effect.

My kids will be ecstatic... they managed to befriend Ekkie when they played Rise of the Goblin Guild, and she now follows the party around like a mascot of sorts.

Ekkie makes that scenario and I love running her through it. Ekkie and Plarg are great. Please let me play her in organized play.

My players just got done slaughtering Ekkie last night.

After the fact, I told her what a cool NPC she was and they all felt kind of bad about not giving her a chance. They just kept threatening to crush the skull instead of just giving it to her... :/

The best scenario I've ever run was Rise of Goblin guild. I luv EKKIE!!!!

I played Rise of the Goblin Guild and I have no idea who this Ekkie character is. I'm guessing something bad happened.

Never played the a RPG, but hooray, more playable goblins!

A goblin class deck would be all kinds of awesome.

I don't know that there is one - it looks to me like a drawing in MS paint. It could be made pretty easily with the paintbrush and spray can tools.

I thought the goblins had rules against writing down words. It would steal them from their heads if I remember "We Be Goblins" right. Why did the authoring goblin write "Bark Bark" and "Pudl"?

Oh! Is the artist Vorka? Is that what got her kicked out?

BTW! I would also like to vote for a We Be Goblin class deck!!!!

Obviously the narrator is trying to give a sense of the Goblin vernacular :)

Lovely! Another Goblin to add to the ranks. Maybe in time we can field a full six party Goblin Adventuring Party! These are great fun pieces to advertise the game.

I would put "The WORST." Just like in the article. :P

Yeah. It said lots of other things, but I had to trim it down to make it fit in the template at DriveThru.

Someone left this all alone in the restroom at my FLGS. I happily added her to my rogue class deck.

Is there a printable character sheet for Ekkie?

Next weekend, my friend and I are gonna put Ranzak and Ekkie through some unsanctioned WotR to see how they do. Mythic goblins battling the Worldwound promises to be entertaining.

It would be great to have a party filled with goblins. Here's to hoping that the next few they release are complementary to Ranzak and Ekkie.

She's delightful in single-player. Evade anything you don't fancy dealing with (where allowed, which it largely is), and odds are it ends up in another deck, meaning you can reduce locations - or one at least - into boons plus villain / henchman. Hurrah.
