Volunteer or Run an Event at PaizoCon 2011!

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Are you attending PaizoCon 2011? (If not, tickets are still available!) If yes, have you thought about volunteering to run an event at the show? What makes PaizoCon so great isn't just the interaction with the Paizo staff or the ability to play in a staff-run game, it's also the ability to sit and game with your fellow Paizo community members as well as run a game for those community members! We're not beholden to a single system at PaizoCon. Want to run a Pathfinder RPG one-off? Great! How about a board game slot where you teach some folks your favorite board game ever? Also great! How about you playtest an upcoming scene in your home campaign with a willing audience? Perfect! There's no end to the ideas you could develop and run at PaizoCon 2011.

We're only taking event submissions until April 27, 2011 (2 weeks from today). So post below in the following format:

Title:
System:
Short Description:
Number of Players (Min/Max):
Character Level:
Pregens Provided (yes/no):

This is the also the official call for Pathfinder Society volunteers for PAIZOCON 2011! Volunteers will receive $10 in Paizo.com store credit useable whenever they want to use it, for each slot they volunteer for, plus an awesome volunteer package of product in addition to the attendee bag o' goodies. (And I mean AWESOME! As in, we only had to drive it 3 miles from our warehouse AWESOME. Like, we're really close to the show so we can bring really cool stuff AWESOME!)

Look through the list below and email me the games/slots you can volunteer for!

Here's where we need help:

Friday 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.
Need: 16

Friday 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Need: 16

Friday 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. (Grand Melee)
Need: 16

Saturday 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Need: 16

Saturday 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Need: 16

Sunday 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Need: 16

There are 6 slots in which we need volunteer assistance. In order to get the goody bag mentioned above, you need to volunteer for a minimum of 2. The more volunteers I get for these events, the more events we can run. So please take some time to run one or two events and help Paizo and the Pathfinder Society make this the best PaizoCon possible!

We hope to have the event schedule live for sign-ups very soon. Details forthcoming.

At this time we're only seeking volunteers from those who have purchased a badge and plan to attend the show.

All volunteers can email me: hyrum.savage@paizo.com with the subject line PAIZOCON 2011 Volunteer.

Can I up Doug to run two scenarios during each-time?

Paizo Employee Director of Brand Strategy

I heard Doug was planning on running a PFS game, playing at a different PFS table, and running both a speed PBP and real-time VTT game during each slot. Blindfolded. With both hands tied behind his back.

But Mark said his hands are tied behind his back so the juggling of chainsaws seems unlikely. Unless of course Doug has telekenesis.

I am so tempted to volunteer for two sessions but I have never ran a PFS, let alone played in one. Would my lack of experience be a problem?

Also, I would like to run one of my own games. I have never been to a gaming convention, so I am a little nervous about doing so.

Encouragement anyone?

Nope! Theirs no better way to get your feet wet in organized play than to jump right in. You'd be advised to familiarize yourself with the campaign rules and the specific scenario you'll be GMing before running a game, but you'll have plenty of time for that. There will also be enough PFS veterans at this show that it's a great time to get mentored if you have any questions.

What does "volunteering" entail? I've totally never been to a gaming convention (or any convention, really) before, and I have no idea what this would mean. Is it running games, or?

Mark makes you wear a "gimp" mask and do his bidding. Oh wait, no that's just Kyle.

Volunteering involves helping out GM a table of six (typically) players in a Pathfinder Society module. Hyrum/Mark give you a module, you get a week or so to prep, and you come and run it in a big room of 16 other tables. It's actually no more complex than that.

I would like to volunteer to GM three (3)slots as an official Pathfinder Society volunteer. All of those time slots given work for me. However, PLEASE be careful to check with Ed Greenwood's schedule so that I can be free to run my "Two Trees and the Second Sister" PF FR adventure for him.

Keep in mind that I might also be adding one more game to GM (a Mayfiar Star Wars session) which will been be scheduled in as well. I will post info about it in the next few days.

So, in summary, please sign me up for 3 official PFS sessions to GM and please work them around Ed's schedule so he might be able to attend my PF Realms adventure.

Title: Green Blood on a Black Rock 4711
System: Pathfinder
Short Description: No monster-fighting tournament is more barbaric and senseless than the annual Green Blood on a Black Rock. You play a dastardly Free Captain ready to bet his hull full of captured goods that your enslaved beastie can shred all comers. Come to this event with a cool pirate name and shrewdly draft from a list of available critters. Then play your beasts in a bracketed, one-on-one, anything-goes death match. Bring your luckiest die, 'cause there will be a lot of green blood on everybody’s favorite black rock. The captain whose monster survives to the end gets the honor of having one of the most famous monsters of the Sodden lands, the monster to win Green Blood on a Black Rock for 4711 A.R.!

No characters required – just bring lots of energy and, if handy, perhaps a Bestiary. You may wish to read up on the Sodden Lands in the Inner Sea World Guide for flavor.
Note this is an elimination game and it won’t fill the time slot for everybody. Some people are either going to wind up spectators or have time to do other things.
Eight cagey free-captains are required to run this event, but any and all spectators are encouraged to attend as the bookies will be taking side bets on the contenders.
Number of Players (Min/Max): 8 (spectators encouraged)
Character Level: None
Pregens Provided (yes/no): Yes, all monsters will be provided.
Maturity Rating Teen (13+) or Mature (18+) depending on the company. While none of the creatures are offensive at all, Adam displays colorful language on occasion.

Title: The R'lyeh Before Christmas
System: XD20 (It's simple!)
Short Description: The cultists are at it again, trying to raise Dread Cthulhu - only this time it's only Christmas Eve! Time for the Legends of the Holidays to arm up and show the squid-worshippers who REALLY owns this season!
Number of Players (Min/Max): 4/6
Character Level: N/A
Pregens Provided (yes/no): Yes
Maturity Rating (Everyone (6+)/Teen (13+)/Mature (18+)): Teen

If you're familiar with Full Frontal Nerdity, you'll know where this game idea came from. Be Scrooge, Saint Nick, Frosty, or another of the Spirits of Christmas, armed up by Father Time to kick some cultists butt!

Title: Failed Sanity Check
System: Don't Rest Your Head

Short Description: This is a DRYH original scenario that is a direct and immediate sequel to one of HP Lovecraft's greatest tales. You can't remember who you are, or where you are. The truth is intertwined with the secret of escaping a dark and terrible place.

No previous experience with DRYH is necessary; just bring three different colors of d6 dice, at least five of each.

Fun is in discovery; if you played last year, you shouldn't play this year, unless you can really keep a secret. And don't spoil the surprise or mystery :-)
