The timeline on PaizoCon PbP is pretty short, so I've got to keep things moving.

Avery Wings's Society (T): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Avery Wings's Society (T): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

It takes Avery some time, but she is finally able to reach through to the spirit. The ghost says, "Yes... my love... she will find me in the afterlife..."

The dark miasma around the scroll and the phylactery blow away. When you place the scroll within, the ghost regains his color and then fades away.

"Thank you for your help in setting this lost soul free," Ralliadra says. "You're always welcome in my shop. Take this--" She turns and removes a string of prayer beads from a shelf. "--as thanks."

Holy prayer beads currently attuned to Shelyn.

Zarta is busy elsewhere when you return. Biglock, however, is quite excited that you have successfully cleansed the phylactery. "Good work! That's the sort of thing I'm coming to expect from Pathfinders. Your next item, ah, Mr. Glovely, if you would bring out the poison sword, please?"

The disembodied gloves zip away and return with a sickly green greatsword encased within a translucent sheath.

"Quite the blade, eh?" Biglock says cheerfully, as Mr. Glovely gingerly holds out a glowing green sword. The blade is chipped and cracked, leaking an unpleasant liquid into the bottom of its translucent sheath. "Or it would be, if it were intact. Don’t take it out of the sheath! It’s made from abysium, a poisonous skymetal, but it’s been damaged. The thing’s leaking all over the place, contaminating everything else in its storage area. We’ve got to get it fixed soon, but skymetals are hard to come by. The only supplier in Absalom is a fetchling by the name of Tesyovensku, who runs a warehouse in the bazaar. Zarta wants you to negotiate purchase of an abysium ingot from them to fix the sword. Easy peasy—or so you’d think, but Tesyovensku has had some run-ins with the Onyx Alliance leader’s agents, so they might be hesitant to touch a job relating to them, even tangentially. The Society’s already arranged a meeting, so your mission is to win them over. Oh! And bring some tea if you can. Tesyovensku always offers customers Shadow Plane teas during business negotiations, so if you bring a gift of your own, it might help your first impression!"

One of Mr. Glovely's gloves flips in midair to produce a ring with the symbol of the Pathfinder Society above a beagle. "This will help verify your identities to Tesyovensku."

It's a messenger's ring.

You first task is to find a suitable gift of tea before heading to Tesyovensku's Warehouse.

In no time at all, Laohu has taken you to a tea shop hidden out of the way where you are able to purchase a very suitable tea. You continue to Tesyovensku's Warehouse.

Two loading doors open onto the floor of this large warehouse, with stacks of lumber and sealed barrels lined up against the walls inside. A colorful fresco is painted on the western wall of the otherwise utilitarian building, depicting various fey creatures and centaurs frolicking amid a lush green forest. On the warehouse’s eastern side, a smaller interior office juts from the wall, its windows overlooking the fresco. The door bears an engraved plaque reading “By Appointment Only.”

A pale, gray-skinned fetchling answers the door. They wear a pair of green glass goggles and a gray hood over their yellow hair. "Yes?" "Well, I do see a few points that may help," says Kaz, leaning towards Tseyovensku to distract them from Zak gagging on tea.

You're so dramatic.

People drink this stuff?

We don't all have your refined all-candy palate.

"We're only looking to acquire a small amount. Obviously I can't say an organization would never bother with a single ingot given that our organization is, but... we have a very specific purpose in mind, repairing this one item. If their trying to get it from you is a regular thing, I gather they have a more general use. Would a single ingot be of use to them? Would they even take notice? And in the worst-case scenario where they take it from us, would it matter at their scale?

"But maybe my assumptions there are wrong, so I'll also point out that we Pathfinders are pretty good at defending our lodges! I can't say they've never breached our defenses and I've never been personally involved, but even those who break in sometimes find that breaking back out is just as difficult."

Kaz sips his tea.

See?

Yes, see? See how my face isn't dramatically advertising my displeasure?

But you aren't going to drink more of it.

Even if Kaz somehow critically failed, that's enough points.

"That is a very good point," Tseyovensku says. "I will sell the metal to the Pathfinder Society. Give me a minute to draw up the paperwork." He pulls out parchment and ink from his desk and writes a contract for the safe exchange of the sky metal to the Pathfinder Society for a reasonable fee.

After he hands you the paperwork, he turns and pulls two arrows out of a cylindrical case. "Take these in case the Obsidian Alliance decides to try to ambush you and steal your sword," the merchant says, passing the arrows over to you.

2 spellstrike II arrows

When you return to the archives, the mimic gives you a big grin when you deliver the contract. "Zarta will be so pleased! Mr. Glovely, would you take that sword away before someone spills it?" The gloves accept the sword and float off to store it away. "It's getting late, so we'd best not bother any of the other merchants now. Go get some rest and come back tomorrow!"

In the morning, after a solid breakfast at the lodge, you descend back into the vaults.

"Mr. Glovely, would you get the thing?" Biglock asks. The disembodied gloves swoop away into the archives and return with a lap-sized loom, which they set down upon a table.

"Now, this one’s a real beauty," Biglock says, as Mr. Glovely gestures over the darkwood loom to show it off. "You don’t see these around too often anymore. It’s called a taleweaver! They’re ancient storytelling devices once popular in the Mwangi Expanse, especially among followers of Grandmother Spider. They’ve mostly fallen out of use, and knowledge of them is obscure nowadays. I was tempted to play around with it myself when I was in that vault, but none my forms have fingers, and Mr. Glovely wasn’t willing to experiment!"

The gloves make an impatient motion, and Biglock chuckles. "Each individual taleweaver holds a story," he continues, "which plays out as an illusion around the weaver. The neat thing is, the weaver doesn’t need to know the story in advance; the threads move of their own accord. When the story ends, the threads unwind and coil back into the frame, ready for the next retelling. Now, this loom is old. The Society’s analysis indicates it dates back to the time of Old- Mage Jatembe, so they’re curious about its story. Fortunately, there’s a storytelling expert in the Grand Bazaar. Zarta wants you to head to Relics & Remembrance to see if its proprietor can figure this loom out."

There is a note affixed to the loom, "Only a master storyteller may hear my tale."

"Khisa loves stories. You can probably get on her good side by telling her some good stories," Biglock says. "This might help you with that."

Mr. Glovely produces a blank white mask. (greater persona mask)

"A story," says Kaz, "about our own exploits?"

We've been asked that before.

That was specifically about something we'd done as members of the Society, though. For this I think... I'm going back just a little further.

"Not too long ago, in this very city--though well out of sight of this bazaar, there was a wizard. She was by no means an archmage, though the magical powers she possessed were more than enough for her to consider herself great and elite, and for her to think many people were beneath her. She was selfish and cruel (and likely remains so today, for this story is not her last).

"She took no notice of of the waitstaff at the tavern or the singer performing on the stage. She certainly took no notice of the fortune teller. No powerful diviner, he was more of a street performer, doing card readings at the tables for a little coin.

"Ignoring him entirely, her fault was that it never occurred to her that he wasn't necessarily ignoring her.

"On her table was a birdcage. And in that cage, she admitted to her co-conspirators, adventurers of the worst sort, was no bird. Her captive was a fairy, a sprite of the First World. She intended some cruel magical experiment, or an attempt to find a method to steal his innate magical power for her own.
"But the fortune teller did hear.

"That night, with her things left in her room in the inn over the tavern, he snuck into that room and broke open the birdcage. The sprite showed no sign of gratitude as he simply darted out the window--"

Hey!
This is a true story, after all.

"--but that night, the fortune teller dreamt of a lady in green with a beautiful voice. As a reward, or a punishment, or perhaps just because she thought it was funny, she was binding the fates of the fortune teller and the sprite together. They never did work out which of them was being rewarded and which punished."

Jun-Mei tells the tale of a lonely painter that falls in love with one of his paintings.

She tells in detail how he becomes obsessed and paints this woman over and over, each portrait being more and more lifelike until finally he paints one that is actually alive and steps off of the canvas to embrace him.

He is overjoyed to have his love alive and tangible. The two of them head outside to a hillside to watch the sun set. On their way back it begins to rain and his love begins to lose her shape and she eventually washes away entirely.

Khisa actively listens to each of your tales. She refills your tea as necessary. "All storytellers start somewhere, and you’re among friends here!" she says to encourage those of you reluctant to share a story.

Once each of you have finished a tale, she nods in satisfaction. "Now that you have shared your stories, I will examine this taleweaver that you have brought," she says as she stands and then heads over to the loom.

She frowns in thought as she inspects the device, "Its aura is unusual, though I cannot say how exactly."

Smiling she says, "Come! Let us proceed outside where you can see the illusions fully without all this clutter as a backdrop." She flaps her hand at the various relics crowding her shop.

Khisa begins to weave, her fingers flying over the loom as the shimmering image of a tall Mwangi man in scholarly robes appears behind her. "Long ago," she says, her voice echoing strangely, "there lived a mage of the Magaambya, Awani of the Tempest." The illusionary man points a staff to the sky, and storm clouds gather over his head. "Awani was talented; it seemed that every month, he created a new spell or relic. He built the first taleweaver, which held a power that none has since: the power to make illusion into reality. But as his power to hold the strings of others’ fates grew, Awani became arrogant and selfish."

She continues to speak and the loom generates shimmering images to match. "Awani began to use his power for selfish ends, hindering or even eliminating his academic rivals and those who offended him by using his taleweaver to craft terrible fates for them. Eventually, the taleweaver itself became corrupted from the mage’s greed, and when Awani next tried to call forth creatures to do his bidding, he lost control of the summons and they turned on him instead!"

The translucent fiery, goat-horned demon and several gnoll cultists menace the image of Awani. Suddenly, the images of the demon and the gnolls ripples and becomes solid. The dirt of the street grinds under their feet, and they cast shadows in the late morning light. Oddly, a strange leafy vine wraps around each of the creatures like a ribbon or sash. Khisa gasps and darts away to usher a group of bystanders into an alley. The demon and his minions turn toward you.

Jun-Mei calls down a blessing.

Professor Whitegourd knows that gnolls are especially dangerous in a pack. They can take advantage of the distractions create by their companions to tear vicious wounds with their teeth (+1d4 extra damage if target is adjacent to 2 other gnols). They leshy summons a lightning bolt that strikes the demon square in the face.

The demon speaks an unintelligible snarl of abyssal sounds before making a sign with one of its hands. A bead of light streaks from his hand into the midst of the Pathfinders and explodes! The edge of the flames wash over the demon, but they do not seem to harm him.

As your eyes recover from the light, the demon retreats behind the gnoll cultists. One of the cultists charges before the rest of you can act, rushing Jun-Mei. He cuts a savage line across the priestess' arm.

Zak Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 Success. Zak would take half damage, but a Summoner and an Eidolon share an HP pool and only take the greater effect when they're both hit by an AoE that damages or heals.

Kaz isn't quick enough to react to the fire. On the plus side, he's too preoccupied by his own burns to even notice the pull of Zak's injury on his life force.

Can't you do that?

I--I think so, but it won't work.

How--

The demon caught itself in its own blast. Clearly its not concerned with fire. I have another idea.

Zak moves around the cultist attacking Jun-Mei. Out of the range of her spell, but hitting them from behind is worth at least as much. Probably.
Kobold sized, he's too big for his wings to provide a lot of lift. They're still surprisingly strong, though, and sharp enough to cut into his foes. "Water? No, but if they're made of threads I'll cut them down!"

While he's doing that, Kaz steps nervously a little closer to the demon. He holds out a hand and pushes down, trying to keep it magically restrained.

* Tandem Movement. Kaz and Zak both Stride.
* Act together. Kaz casts slow on the demon, Fortitude DC 21. On a success it's Slowed 1 one round, on failure Slowed 1 one minute, or Slowed 2 one minute on a critical failure; no effect on critical success. Zak's wings fail to penetrate the gnoll's armor. The vines around the gnoll snap outward toward the fey's wings, trying to entangle them. The eidolon hops out of reach just in time.
