Once the work was done, as he cleaned blades and his claws, he asks the others:
"So, any thought on what we do from here? Should we go to check out those camps, the ratfolk camp, or should we try to scout out the town? I haven't got anything I need from the town, but you locals may, not to mention retrieving Fray's horse."

Upon seeing Z head out for the second time, Merek joins him. Good morning, friend. Mind if I join you this time? Merek says as he falls in line.

Whatbare your thoughts on our current predicament? Do you hold an opinion of what we should do next? I feel that we should head out to the old Lizardman camps, but I am wary of two things: one,[b\] Merek holds up a finger,[b] that we should run into any Lizardfolk hunting parties still scouring the camps, and two, Merek holds up a second finger, that I am being selfish because of what I have turned into.

And in the event that One holds true, I am fearful that some of us will not hold back and will end up killing the hunters.

What do you think?

Zveris was actually heading towards Merek when he left the tree anyways. He has a large basket with him.

"Morning. I was coming to get you already. Gonna need you to help me carry things back."

He offers Merek the basket.

"Not really sure what I think of this yet. I don't think I care so much. It's incon... incon... not easy. But it's not as hard for me as it is for you city people. I have been thinking about one thing, but I'm pretty sure you won't like it. But, I don't really know what to do next. I'm mostly just looking at today and getting by day by day. I'm mostly just here for you all. Margaret may have been nuts, but she might've just killed you instead if doing this if I wasn't there, so I do feel a little re.... re... ábyrgð."

He fumbles for a word(responsible) before saying it in Draconic. Of course, Merek might not even notice. Zveris just thinks he found the word he was looking for.

"As far as the lizard man town goes, I thought you guys were confident that they'd all been murdered. Would they still be looking at those? And if there is anyone that checks on it, they'd need to be killed or they bring more hunters. Maybe we should just send some of us that aren't lizards to get things. I don't want to kill anyone, so I don't think the camp is a good idea unless you're sure no one else would come that way."

A tactical individual would plan for scavengers and think of an empty camp as an ideal location to pick off other monsters.

And not everyone will believe that the last has been killed off. They may still be search for that last one. Or three in our case. I know you're different, but others won't bother with such a minor distinction.

However, it will be he best place to get equipment for Edgar, myself, and you. And I'm sure there will be other large pieces of equipment for Chris and Sarrissa.

After that, headed to a trading post to pick up everything else will be in order. And I think those warrens will be perfect. Hopefully I'm as wrong about the ratfolk as I was about the Lizardfolk.

after making use of the facilities, Castell tries to climb a nearby tree, whichever happens to look biggest.

climb: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

As he does this, he starts to use the clicks he discovered to add a beat to his climbing. when he finally reaches a top branch he stops to look out at the area.

perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Ah, little bit of quiet feels nice right about now. Castell says to himself as he adjusts his position. He takes a deep breath, exhaling sharply.

perform: sing: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

*ahem*

Eternita! Il mio fato in te vivra!

His voice comes out much louder than he expected. His new size doesn't seem to have affected his volume the way he thought it would it wouldn't be too hard to hear him from where the others are actually.

Trascendera! Cio che stato e che sara!

Eternita! Il tuo tempo annientera!

Dei Demoni! ]'abbagliante Oscurita!

He repeats this once more before finishing with a cresendo:

Sacra Eternita!

*Phew*, glad I got that out of my system. He's still not sure were he herd that song, but it sounds much better in it's native elven. Anyone who knows him already would know that little verse makes him feel at ease.

"If you think it's a good idea, I trust you."

They come upon the deer soon and he hefts it over his shoulder, giving the closed trap to Merek.

"Ya... you two being the last ones is part of the thing you won't like..."

He pauses for a moment as he stands.

Merek takes the trap and held carry it back.

I have been thinking such myself. Perhaps she is trying to teach me a lesson about the nature of good and evil across species. Or perhaps it is random chance.

I do not suspect that I have been given this form to repopulate the species, though. If this was the case, both Sarrissa and I would have become Lizardfolk. Sarenrae should know me well enough to know that I would not forsake my oath, be it to the Order or to my wife.

Fray takes the note from Chris and eyes the seal. "That you would think that the contents of your note would interest me enough to see me break the seal and read it for myself is laughable. I won't have much time, so a courier will have to suffice. " Fray pockets the note and gathers this things.

"Anyone else?"

2 people marked this as a favorite.

"But what if that's part of it. Like not everything is going to be easy. It seems clear to me that killing all the lizard people was a mistake and this is a second chance. Maybe not the second chance you would've chosen, if you'd known, but one still."

scent. He doesn't quite know he's doing it though, just an instinct now.

You can follow tracks by sense of smell with survival, negating penalties for surface conditions and poor visibility, but I don't think you get a +8 to the check. Scent gives a +8 to perception to detect scents, so I think you can perception to check for your trail, then survival to follow the trail back. I don't mean to be anal, but scent is powerful as is lol

Sarrissa watches intently as Edgar skins the carcass. Happy to be doing something that occupies her time, she doesn't make a sound. She watches as Edgar weaves his dagger with practiced hands, mentally taking notes of the process as the blade carves into the flesh. A sudden enjoyment creeps into her head as the blood spills out. While no stranger to bloodshed, she never enjoyed the act before, and is a little concerned by the smile that has crept onto her face.

Track is kind of like a sub skill off of survival. Things that add to track do not add to survival. Kinda like I have a +2 to stealth, but only in dark or dim light. You have a +8 only when using scent to track something.

Also helpful and concise, thank you.

Hey, Issa! Hey Edgar. Oof, that's a hell of a smell.

Well, I'd say the Warrens, but that might be my bias speaking. It still has the upside of being populated to consider, however.

I'm questioning whether a population is an upside. With a lack of a population, we may be able to scavenge what we need and avoid any confrontation.

Not that I fear any such confrontation, I'm just worried we might hurt someone who doesn't deserve it; these new forms are stronger than what we're used to. And they seem to be having some unusual effects on us.

Stronger than what you are used to. The most impressive thing I've found out about myself is being able to climb now. I have to wonder if there is even anything left in those camps as of now. At least a populated area can be guaranteed to lead to supplies, directly or otherwise. Different risks I suppose, but it should be worth noting that I think I'll be safe enough contacting the Ratfolk, I do still have my scarf after all. Anyone else?

I can accept that. If everyone else also prefers the ratfolk over the encampments, then I have no issue with headed there first.

After all, you may be right with there being nothing left behind; most armies and hunting parties make their living selling off any valuables found.

I think it best if we scout out one if not both of those camps, and either see if we find something useful or if it is habitable. Survival basics call for food, water, and shelter, and these camps may provide one or more of those, and they are far enough away from town that even if we are discovered, we may not be seen as a threat. As friendly or inviting as these ratfolk may or may not be, i don't think many of us would be comfortable in their den."

"Neither option is a long term solution. The lizardmen ruins should be abandoned. I doubt we'll find much there, but we may find armor or weapons, and shelter that most should think is empty. Fray can fly above and Castell can smell them from a ways away. If they are uninhabited, then it will be a quick trip. I'm not saying we move it, I'm saying we scout it first.

The rodents, on the other hand have more of an advantage over us. It will be harder to scout them, we know they have numbers, and they can defend much easier than we could attack.

I don't expect to gain much from the lizardman encampments, but it is an easier, quicker, and safer gamble at this point. While most victors take what spoils they can, they can't usually take everything. Any sort of sizable community should leave enough left overs to accommodate us."

"The letter to my dad should be a step in the right direction as far as a long term solution goes, but, I'm not sure how much help he'll be, it could be anywhere from inviting us to his protection (so long as we can make ourselves useful) while he looks for a cure, to sending a team of adventurers to quietly get rid of us, but both of those are equally unlikely...most likely he'll tell us to continue hiding, and maybe give us some info on what's going on, maybe give us some equipment, maybe he'll discretely look into things that could bring us back, but they'll probably be at the end of some dangerous dungeons" Chris sighs "now if my brother were the one transformed he'd waltz back in there under some kind of illusion, and between the two of them he'd be fixed within the month and no one would ever have suspected a thing..."
