Will be great to meet those two! Hopefully before Saturday morning.
Worst case, you can join us at Scotty's after the con each night. :)

Yeah, compare that 1.5 round battle to Reign of Winter's 15 round one! I've found in many Pathfinder Games that going up in level does increase the complexity of battles, but it also reduces their duration. They get very deadly, as the damage output of characters and foes alike increases much more than their hit points do when they level up.
So... Fires of Karamoss next? Jyri, you said next week, right? Let me know if you're not happy to run it, and I'll step in and run something else in the meantime (unless anyone else wants to have a go).
Gunari Maximoff |
Ok... opinions... do I play Gunari with this one, or do I save him for Under the Ice? In this order I cannot do both. We'd need to do Under the Ice first if Gunari was to do them both.
Silbeg |
I can go either way. I'll need 4 chronicles for Gunari prior to the Friday 7-11 scenario... I am sure I can pull it off (he could, for example get one of the three scenarios I am running on Thursday -- perhaps all three if needed!)
I can certainly play Faustus, if you enjoyed seeing him
@Mikko! Hola!

BTW - if any of your all would like to visit the Twin Cities in September, the MSP Pathfinders are holding a little convention to benefit Tubman.org, a local charity for battered women, etc.
https://warhorn.net/events/skalcon
All proceeds (after operating costs) will be going to the charity.
Mikko, if you were interested, we'd make sure to have a table of your awesome scenario available for you to run (and we'd auction off seats to it!)

Jack - like the long term plans.
Mikko - very jealous. I have only ever been to small, local cons. I hope you have a great time and spill beer all over your Pathfinder books.
All - Is a shoehorn worth it. So Finarin, as a member of the Sovereign Court, is very ill suited mechanics wise. I think that I do a passable job roleplaying, but his stats are wanting to say the least. I have a bunch of PP, and now with my new magic item feel ok to Not Dying, unless it is a Save or Die, and then, Ooops.
So to make his more Sovereign Court like, I thought about the following to actually give him a decent Diplomacy:
Diamond Inlay Wayfinder(5 PP): This wayfinder features intricate ornamentation of inlaid diamonds. These gems may not be used as material components. Flashing a diamond inlay wayfinder grants you a +2 circumstance bonus on Diplomacy checks made against aristocrats and
merchants allied with the Pathfinders, but a –2 penalty against those who oppose the Pathfinders.
Height of Fashion (Fame 20, 2 PP):
Your contacts among the Taldan aristocracy allow you to constantly update and adapt your fashion so as to never appear out of style—be it at court, on the road, or even in combat. You gain a +3 bonus on Diplomacy checks against nobles, politicians, and aristocrats of your race.
Masterwork Skill Kit (Diplomacy) 50 gp. Is there one?
Some skills have no appropriate tool or masterwork tool—no nonmagical item exists that grants a bonus for all uses of that skill. For example, just because a certain perfume is favored by local nobles (granting a +2 circumstance bonus on Diplomacy checks to influence them) doesn't mean that perfume has the same effect on a member of the thieves' guild, a foreign berserker, or a medusa.

Or even a Feat:
Cosmopolitan
Living in large, exotic cities has put you in touch with many diverse civilizations, cultures, and races.
Benefit: You can speak and read two additional languages of your choice. In addition, choose two Intelligence-, Wisdom-, or Charisma-based skills. Those skills always count as class skills for you.
Basically, is it worth it? Am I trying too hard? HELP!!!
Silbeg |
I'd hold off on tremendously high cost purchases, as there are a good number of checkboxes you can get without going nuts.
Perhaps the best thing on these lines you could do would be to add either Kn: Nobility or Diplomacy into your Headband of Vast Intellect. Or, just max out his Kn: Nobility as fast as you can. There is a cracked Ioun Stone that can give +1 Competence to an Int skill... that might be good, too.
I see kn:nobility as being more the style of Finarin than Diplomacy (though the latter would be more useful in play). Maybe go for the Additional Traits feat, and get a trait to use INT instead of CHA for Diplomacy? And then, you can get another cool trait.

Hey guys, greetings from Seattle!
Hey Mikko! What's going on up there? Having fun? Coming to GenCon?
Jack, put my vote in for Faustus. His mace makes it great - and I'm enjoying the to-and-fro between him and Lort. It'll be 2 more scenarios for Gunari then, followed by 2/3 from Thursday of GenCon and we're all set.
Finarin:
- Diplomacy skill kit - there is a mwk kit for anything if you have ultimate equpiment. In Hero Lab, just select "Masterwork tool" and then choose the skill.
- Great that you're trying to be a better sovereign court person. You can always switch faction if you prefer, but I think you're doing an awesome job on the RP. You're fine!
- Don't spend too much money or waste a feat on something like "cosmopolitan" (there are better feats). Did you get the vanity that made you specialized in know (nobility)?
- I second the additional traits feat. Gives you a nice one for diplomacy, and room for one more!

Kind of funny, 'cause when I've played him IRL, he's tended to creep people out... as long as I can keep talking in his deadpan voice. In many ways, I hear him speaking in a voice that is something like a cross between Bane and Darth Vader.
-Karma- |
Moi Mikko, having a good time in there?
@Finarin: You don't have to necessarily be good in diplomacy to play SC. I can very well imagine a haughty and socially inept elven noble. And when you need to pass a diplomacy check, you can rely on your friends for that. But if you want to have the mechanics too, I give another vote for extra traits. INT to to diplomacy and diplomacy to class skill on one feat... (or any of the other amazing traits). Maybe also buy Cologne... ;)

Grab your floaties! Seriously though... Good luck, hopefully everyone is ok!

Thanks man. We're fine. We are about 5 yds higher than the lake behind us, and the lake overflows into a lowland creek system a few miles away. Going to take a LOT of water before that fills up enough to get near my yard! ;-)
Driving out of the neighborhood, though, is another question entirely. Staying at home today. Instant noodles for lunch. Kinda looking forward to it.

Oops! Wrong thread! Fixing...
So... For the GenCon goers... miniatures.
I love painting and modifying minis, and it has been ages since I have. GenCon is a great excuse to get started again. Is anyone else going to be brining minis for their characters? I thought it'd be cool if we could start looking for some that resembled our PCs. I'll take some photos of one I've bought for Lort and share my conversion plans... but if anyone has a better mini suggestion, I'm more than willing to buy another!
So far, Reaper has been the best source for me, but I'm new to the U.S. miniatures scene, and freely admit there could be better options available.
I forgot about those, it has been so long since I played at a table... I love the idea! Reaper is all I am familiar with, so it there are more options I would love to hear it also. I will keep my eyes peeled for anything resembling any of our characters...
TheBobJones |
Anyone hear anything about this?
Also, I found out there is an Extra Trait Boon. Does anyone know if it states that it only applies to 1st level characters? Also, how do you trade for a boon without a boon? I have seen some people offer to buy pdfs but I don't know how that would work.
Damien Wilmann |
So, I went through my miniature collection - new and old. These are what I found in my collection. I actually did a photo shoot and then did them up in Photoshop. Over the top much?
Anyway, if you'd like one for yourself, I can either post it to you so you can paint it, or I'll see if I can find time to paint it myself. The exception is the Talisman miniatures. They've got sentimental value (and are part of a set, so OCD value, too).
My characters:
- Lort, ready for me to add that sword on. Not sure if I'll be able to beard him up with the way8 that armor is, but I'll likely try to get rid of the skull on his knee piece.
- Xûll. For those who played with him a way back. I saw this when looking for Lort, and couldn't help myself. Going to put that sword on instead of his axe to make a wicked nodachi.
- Haafiz. In case Lort dies, Haafiz will be stepping up. Barbarian / inquisitor, shamelessly built around the spring attack feat (thanks for the idea, Mikko).
- Arturo, just in case. I know, it's an elven chick... but I'll drill her tîts out and replace them with green stuff, shave her elf-ears off, then add a hairy lip. Should look fine. ;-)
- Ciaran, Ryan's character (sword and board fighter).
Suggestions for you guys:
- Finarin, just to make you even more jealous. Sorry, John.
- Archaeologist from Talisman. I think this would make a good Ibid, but may be a little too "Indiana Jones". This is the old paint job, and I would replace it with my own.
- Ibid perhaps? This was going to be my investigator (GM credit baby), but I went with inquisitor instead.
- Chaos Warrior from Talisman. Faustus, anyone? Painted by me, and the paint would stay.
- Warrior from Talisman. This one has Gunari potential, I think. My paint job again.
- Knight from Talisman. More Gunari potential. However, given that Valeros is available as a mini already, maybe I'm just trying too hard. ;-) My paint.
- Ninjas, both from Talisman (different poses). Some Cyrus potential, but slightly overt. I'd repaint the painted one.
- Thief from Talisman. This might be more Cyrus-y.
- Assassin from Talisman. Cyrus might look like this when sneaking around.
- Minotaur from Talisman, in case I have to run the Confirmation. ;-) My paint job yet again.
Also, these ones I saw online look kinda cool (I like Dark Sword, but their range is not so extensive as others):
Damien Wilmann |
As for the mini suggestions:
- A female half-orc inquisitor for Ibid? Not sure.
- I had a long, hard think about the iconic warpriest for Lort. It was a very, very near thing. The drums, the holy symbol, the banner and the fact that it was an iconic made me turn elsewhere in the end. The conversion would just be too hard, though I thought I'd probably be able to make a sweet green-stuff beard.
@John: Which bit on that thread are you talking about? We participated in the GameDay ourselves...
As for boon trading, I'm pretty sure this is fine. Purchasing boons is less good, and Mike Brock (from what I recall reading) strongly discourages it (he may even have outright banned it).
If you can get an extra trait boon in return for a Sylph race boon, I will gladly give you my Sylph race boon to trade with - provided you can use the extra trait for Finarin.
TheBobJones |
Link - Sorry, they are talking about announcing the dates for the next PBP Gameday.
Boon Trading - Thanks for the offer Damien. I don't know what the 'rules' for this are, or even how to go about it.
There is an Online Con I am going to try and clear my schedule for to try and keep abreast of you going to GenCon, maybe even play some of the games that you guys do - if they are out.
I think they will have some specials from the last few years so if anyone wants to join me, or has any good suggestions.
Damien Wilmann |
@John: This is a good place to start for boon trading: Boon Trading Thread.
It's pretty active, and the first post links to the old one (which has discussions on it). Feel free to say you "have" a sylph boon. I'll just send it to you if you get a successful trade.
No-one wants a sylph, though, from the looks of it. Doesn't mean you can't offer! I suspect the cool universally useful boons like "extra trait" might just get used by whoever wins them. I know I would!
As for GameDay 4, Jesse has been unusually inactive online for a while now. His last post was actually congratulating Jack and the other Minnesota VLs!

I was thinking this for Cyrus. I have purchased it once before, but it got list when my daughter took an interest in painting minis with me. I could get rid of one of the daggers, but otherwise seems fitting. I like that it is in the air... Acrobatics being kinda the Cyrus way...
-Posted with Wayfinder
Damien Wilmann |
Awesome choice for Cyrus! Make it happen. ;-)
I can buy it and try to find time to paint it for you if you like. I've already re-equipped myself with a heap of stuff. I'm sure I could find a blade like a wakazashi.
Not sure if I'd have the heart to put a scimitar on that sword, though, for Finarin. It's way too cool as is. ;-)
Silbeg |
Ibid, check this one out.
I think it is plastic and would still require painting... Unless the have a metal version. I found that in about 30 seconds, so chances are they have more.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Dude, that's a chick (the iconic female half-orc Inquisitor, Imrijka).
However, if you want to use that, I have several from the Reign of Winter set (or was that WoR?)
