Male Oread Arctic Druid 2

"Thank you, please be careful yourself" answers Jeydavu. "We should head for the river then."

Bribes always welcome

The stag nods and vanishes into the trees

The party heads down the snow trail. After a few minutes of trudging they see a frozen stream up ahead. Just before the stream is an odd sight: A snowman in the middle of the trail. It looks like any child's creation, but it has a placard placed about its neck the reads,

Trespassers turn back

Male Human (Ulfen) Urban Barbarian 2 [HP 36/36; AC 17]

"It's hard to imagine anyone has had time to set up roots here," Gaelin says to his companions. He examines the snowman and the writing, to see if there is any indication who put this here.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Bribes always welcome

As Gaelin approaches the snowman, it's face shifts and seems to come alive. It suddenly speaks

"Hey, can't you read? Trespassers be gone!"

Male Oread Arctic Druid 2

Jeydavu approaches as well and hears the snowman speak. He answers, "Yes, we can read. It says trespassers turn back. But we aren't trespassers. We are just passing through on our way to the stream ahead."

Bribes always welcome

As Gaelin and Jeydavu approach the snowman it lets out a piercing scream

you each take 1d8 ⇒ 1 damage. Please roll me a DC 18 Fort save as well

The rest of the party claps hands to ears as the cacophonous shriek splits the frigid air. As it dies down there is a crackling sound, like icebergs rubbing together. Two lumpy forms emerge from the edge of the frozen stream next to Gaelin and Jeydavu. The forms look like ice chunks sintered together into a vaguely humanoid shape

I'll need a group initiative

Male Oread Arctic Druid 2

Group Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Tama's arrow flies true, sticking into the joint of one of the creatures

Tama:

Spoiler:
Tana has heard stories of ice guardians before. Summoned by sorcery, they are used as guards when a patient watchman is needed. They can swim through ice like water, and their touch is numbing

Bribes always welcome

Ecaterina rushes to Jeydavu and lays hands on him

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Gaelin's huge sword shatters the ice creature

Congrats folks

The area seems quiet. The stream is frozen solid. The creatures didn't break the crust when they emerged. The trail continues across the steam into the further woods

Male Human (Ulfen) Urban Barbarian 2 [HP 36/36; AC 17]

How are we on healing? I couldn't take another hit like we've been getting.

Penelopy looks over the river

"I think there is something on the far bank."

The red-head starts striding across the frozen stream. Suddenly, there is a resounding *CRACK*. An entire section of the stream ice crumbles under the barmaid's feet. She screeches as the fast-running cold water hits her. She plunges in, and the current sweeps her under the unbroken ice. The last anyone sees of her is a trail of flame-colored curls being sucked beneath the ice

Well, she sprung the trap for you guys. Do me a solid and don't be heroes and try to save her.

Male Human (Ulfen) Urban Barbarian 2 [HP 36/36; AC 17]

Gaelin runs to the bank as he sees her go under. "Penelopy!" he calls out. He looks at the churning frigid water carrying her away at great speed beneath the ice. He pounds at the frozen earth helplessly.

"We cannot separate. This is a perilous place and we cannot run off by ourselves." He shakes his head sadly. "So senseless."

Male Half-elf Monk 1

Tristan cries out in shock as the ice gives way, but after treating a nasty case of hypothermia a few winters back knows that attempting a rescue would only endanger the rescuer, especially given the unnatural coldness of this place.

Although she was pretty stupid in striding over strange ice, Penelopy was right. Something was on the far bank. A pile of clothes?

Perception rooks plz

Male Human (Ulfen) Urban Barbarian 2 [HP 36/36; AC 17]

Gaelin strains to see what is on the far bank.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Female Human (Shoanti) Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

It looks like perhaps there's a crumpled body over the stream

Male Half-elf Monk 1

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Oread Arctic Druid 2

Jeydavu turns his back for a moment to tend to his moose. He doesn't notice that something is wrong until he hears the crack of the ice and turns around just in time to see Penelope's curls disappear. He goes up to the shoreline and sees that going after her is futile. He murmurs a prayer in druidic and then looks across the bank to see what could have caught Penelopy's attention.

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

He does not see anything. He leads Chtonthoth over to the others. "This unnatural cold has claimed another victim. We cannot let her death be in vain, we must press on and rid this forest of this curse before it takes another life."

Male Human (Ulfen) Urban Barbarian 2 [HP 36/36; AC 17]

"If we are to investigate, we must be careful," Gaelin says. "The ice is treacherous."

Bribes always welcome

the frozen tableaux is quiet except for the faint sound of running water from the hole in the stream's ice

Dungeon Monkey:
I take it I am unconscious until the others wake me?

Bribes always welcome

Athromar:

Spoiler:
why don't we say you were unconscious and are waking up now? Let's get you integrated into the game

Intro:

Spoiler:
The ice creatures had killed them. Killed them all. Athromar wasn't sure why they spared him. Perhaps he made it past their range. He was the only one who had made it across the river. He opens ice-coated eyes and groans.

A pained noise comes from the pile of clothing on the other side of the river. They move as a form sits up

M Shadow's Status | Human Cleric 2 | HP 9/25 | Channels 1/8 | AC = 16 | F+4|R+3|W+4 | Per +6 |Init +4

Athromar shakes his head of cobwebs and attempts to gingerly stand up, he looks around and sees several figures across the ice.

Drawing his mace he issues a teeth chattering challenge, "Ware the ice strangers, many good men perished trying to cross. Who are you lot?"

Athromar looks a bit dazed and staggers slightly as he calls across to the group.

Male Human (Ulfen) Urban Barbarian 2 [HP 36/36; AC 17]

A tall man with strong Ulfen features stands at the bank. While his ancestry is clearly Northern, his speech, manners, and grooming are unmistakably Taldane. "We seek to root out whatever corrupts this wood. How did you come to be here? Are you hurt?"

M Shadow's Status | Human Cleric 2 | HP 9/25 | Channels 1/8 | AC = 16 | F+4|R+3|W+4 | Per +6 |Init +4

Athromar keeps his mace before him but looks down and checks his body for wounds.

"It seems my pride and my heart are wounded but my body is secure. Perhaps rest on the bank has allowed me to overcome the extreme cold radiated by the guardians? I take it your and yours have defeated them?"

Athromar looks around warily now, suddenly remembering the creatures that brought his former companions to doom.

Male Oread Arctic Druid 2

Jeydavu, a short stocky creature with stone like features steps forward. "My name is Jeydavu. Yes, we were able to defeat them but they nearly killed us. How many were with you?"

M Shadow's Status | Human Cleric 2 | HP 9/25 | Channels 1/8 | AC = 16 | F+4|R+3|W+4 | Per +6 |Init +4

"There were four of us. My companions sought to avoid the snow trap on the road by crossing the ice. Little did we know that the ice would be guarded by the frosty fiends. An area of the ice broke open as we battled. I dived off of the ice after taking a solid blow from one of the creatures. My companions fell through the ice struggling with the creatures, the blow to my head was enough to knock me unconscious. Now here you are. I think you. Were it not for you, the cold may have taken me. It was the commotion of the battle that woke me from my stupor".
