Figwidget nods, briefly admiring the Elemental Gem -- "This could come in handy if we have some water we need cleaned up!" he says -- before going to work looking at and trying to understand the machinery, in hopes of figuring out a way they could shut it down. The goal would be to reduce the noise, but also the fumes if that's at all possible.

Take 10 on Knowledge (Engineering) for a result of 41.

Figwidget, holding his breath as the noxious fumes build, finally finds the controls that lower the furnace doors - reducing the sweltering heat, masking the clanking noise from the machinery and stopping the fumes seeping into the room. A further examination finds the ventilation controls which, bursting into life, quickly pulls the poisonous air away.

Looking around, now that he can do so without fear of being overcome by fumes, Figwidget finds a bank of levers that must surely control the clockwork that drives this place - throwing the largest of the levers forward, he accidentally accelerates the conveyors, cogs and gearwheels - for a moment, the noise in the room is ear-piercingly loud before, pulling the lever back, the gnome brings the whole facility to a crashing halt...

For a moment there is silence yet, somewhat predictably given the interruption to the machinery, it is quickly replaced by angry voices - to your north-west and also through the opening in the north-east wall...

Map updated to show majority of the facility – only a few unexplored rooms now!!!

Moving towards the gap in the wall in the north-east, you can’t help but notice a sudden chill in the air. Utterly at odds with the heat within other parts of the facility, the temperature plummets the closer you get to the adjacent room…

Looking through, there are three rectangular pools taking up almost half of the area’s floor space, and connected to a larger pool beneath the floor. Conveyor belts from the south submerge their cargos in the pools, then transfer the contents to another conveyor that runs east to west along the bottom of the underground pool. A complicated panel board of illuminated switches and levers takes up most of the alcove in the eastern wall.

…wildly scattered around the rectangular pools, there are ratfolk corpses – bloody and torn - and emerging from the rectangular pools, two large insectile beasts… ice forming on their carapaces as they emerge…

With a rattling and cracking of ice, the lumbering creatures move out of your sight - murmuring as they move...

"Oh dear," Figwidget murmurs. "I figured fire would work well on ice creatures. Hum. This is bad."

Throw bomb at the back-right square of the closest devil, so that the second one is in the splash radius. This is a force bomb; less damage, but it does force damage -- 13 points of splash damage, Reflex DC 23 for half.

Folks, maybe I should have been more descriptive with the map. Currently, there is a floor to ceiling wall between you and the devils... You cannot target them without moving down the corridor and into the room with the pools. Equally, Tychi could not reach the devils in the first round (apologies, I should have left space for Nike to report presence of evil) without a move action...

I have marked the map appropriately to show the solid wall...

Sorry for delays, have been mulling over how to run these last bits of the adventure...

From beyond the wall, there is a large 'popping' noise followed by another voice that can only be heard in your head, "He is coming... The one who bound you here... Even now his sergeant awaits his arrival on the walls of this fortress"

...the original voices reply, "Then that is where we will go... Sultur will suffer for his treachery"

...there follows a series of 'pops' and then silence...

"Wait, Casey, don't shoot!" Figwidget says.

Figwidget wonders what these things are:

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (5) + 26 = 31
That's also a 31 if it's Arcana or Dungeoneering. It's 36 if Engineering, a 23 if Nature, a 20 if History or Geography, and an 18 if Nobility, Planes, or Religion.

The gnome addresses the giant. "What are you doing here? What's going on here is a threat to Alkenstar; we're defending the city. Why d you say we've killed you all? Are you complicit, or enlisted? If the latter, leave now, and we do not need to harm you."

Figwidget - The calikang is a much sought-after guardian of treasuries, harems, and fortifications. Legend holds that, an untold number of eons ago, one of the thousand deities failed at a task, and the first calikangs were born from that god’s severed fingers. Calikangs have powerful sense of guilt and shame over their divine source’s ancient failings, and they believe that if enough calikangs protect worldly holdings from robberies or destruction, this inherited sin will someday be wiped clean.

Calikangs are 14 feet tall and weigh 4,000 pounds. They can live for 200 years— though many extend their lives beyond this via suspended animation.

The huge creature, steeling itself, ignores Figwidget’s words…

Are you folks going with Casey having taken the shot or not?

I'm fine with delaying Casey's shot until Figwidget speaks, but if it still ignores Figwidget without having been attacked, Nike will charge

Huge blue hands flex around the hilts of the warhammers as the creature considers it's foes and Figwidget's words... yet as logical as those words are, the calikang's purpose is to guard - without that, what is it for? It roars defiantly and, as Casey's bullets slam into it, it's growls turn into crazed laughs...

Tychi / Nike - you can take that charge if you wish

M Gnome Alchemist (Mindchemist) / 14

Figwidget will keep trying, at least a little bit. "Please! Tell us what you mean! We've come here in defense of our city. The clockwork machines that our city used to protect itself were being subverted, and the source of that is here. Surely with your desire to defend things you can understand things? How have we killed you all? Help us! Or at least help us understand."

And now for the scary part, hoping that there might be some circumstance bonus from things actually said:

Casey raises an eyebrow at the thing. "Gotta say I ain't never heard no one ever start laughin' after gettin' shot. This oughta be interestin'," he says mostly to himself.

Apologies for delay – it seemed that every time I tried to get onto Paizo.com at the end of last week it was offline.

The six-armed giant staggers backwards as Casey’s bullets smack into its huge frame – recovering to just about fend off Tychi and Nike, the creature slams a fist into the ground causing a shockwave of electricity to explode beneath Casey Jayne and then, in a fountain of light, arc towards everyone else.

2 hits from Casey followed by a hit from Nike’s charge and 3 hits from Tychi (one Crit)

GM Only:
Calikang = 74/309

Calikang, Chain Lightning – Cast Defensively (DC27): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31, Success

Casey Jayne: 12d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 6, 4, 1, 6, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2) = 33 Electricity Damage – DC20 Reflex Save for Half Damage

Everyone else takes 33 Electricity Damage, DC18 Reflex Save for Half Damage

Everyone may take their turn now
