Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
Risbeth rolls her eyes. "Let's open the coffins that have heavy chains nearby. I'm sure there's no undead dangers inside. Let's go to the tomb, I'm sure the curse is just an old story. Nobody believes those stories about the spirit that appears if you say it's name three times while looking in a mirror, let's all do it at the sleepover so we can prove it's fake. I'm sure it's safe to swim in the harbor, even if the harbor master said there's flesh renders in the water, everyone knows it's safe..." She mutters under her breath, going over every dumb thing ever done in a horror play or bard's tale, usually things done right before a bunch of stupid horny teenagers (horror tales always star stupid horny teenagers) get eaten, ripped to shreds, cut into pieces, or something else horrible happens.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
The sarcophagi appears to be Osirian in nature, and opens on a hinge. The coffin seems to be made of stone, with gold painted on over its carved face.
Xerice Lockhart |
Xerice stiffles a laugh and with a big grin on her face points at Risbeth
"What she said."
Prof Augustus Tournesol |
"Well, well, empty sarcophagi. Nothing interesting. Let's proceed to the next room, shall we?"
Zano Turok |
I look at the preserved creatures. are they preserved as in dead, but something was done to prevent decay, or are they preserved as in some science experiment where they are in glass tubes filled with water.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Sonny has already laid his hands on the sarcophagus when Caesare shouts to stop him! Except... Sonny's hands appear to be stuck to the coffin. which he shortly discovers is not a coffin at all as a mouth opens on it, revealing teeth and a long tongue!

Augustus is up!
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
"Oh no, it was a trap, who could have foreseen it? Oh god, it's eating me... eating me..." Risbeth says under her breath with some sarcasm.
Prof Augustus Tournesol |
"We told you not lay your hands everywhere! I hope we can stop this not-a-coffin without breaking it. I'd love to examine it!"
Which knowledge? Dungeoneering?
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 11 if planes; 17 if arcana
"Not sure I remember what this thing is... Anyway, let's study it now... yes, yes, I see, you can fight it, hitting the crack in the side of the coffin... And there!"
Reveal Weakness: -3 AC and saves for the next round.
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
By the way, Risbeth would like to register a complaint. The GM keeps rolling 1 for her initiative. Highly not fair. :)
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Augustus, it would seem to be a mimic, a creature capable of mimicking other creatures and objects.
With Sonny stuck, the mimic now tries to ensure he's well stuck! CMB: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 It constricts around the cleric, dealing 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 slam damage!
Zanu, Xerice, Caesare, Risbeth and Sonny are up!
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
As far as I can tell from the map, Risbeth is next to the half-eaten cleric
"I wonder if he'd taste better with salt and pepper? I think I have some..."
Find Weakness: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
If the creature's CR is 13 or less, she ignores any DR or Hardness it might have

Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Risbeth's second attack hits and does damage, but she, too, is stuck fast! No third attack!
Xerice Lockhart |
I'm guessing Risbeth could use what ever body part she wants for her flurry though. Also If I recall correctly, one get's a reflex save to avoid getting stuck against one of thse?
Xerice laughs at the encounter for it looks too rediculous.
A scowl from one of her companions she waves away.
"Okay, okay, But I'm not getting my whip stuck on that goo." She says and loads a crossbowbolt on her crossbow and shoots the creature with it.
crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d8 ⇒ 6
confirm crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 221d8 ⇒ 6
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Xerice, it says that a weapon striking gets a reflex save, but any touch is automatically stuck.
Xerice's bolt seems to stick hard and Caesare's spear draws blood. Caesare Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 And the spear is stuck fast!
Zanu and Sonny are up! I will be gone to GenCon and will return Monday. So there will be a hiatus in my posting until then. If anyone else is going, look me up!
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
Risbeth can still attack even while stuck. It's just an automatic Grapple. You can attack while grappled. The only penalty is a -2 to hit, and a -4 Dex penalty. Note that someone who is grappling someone else also takes penalties. So, what it's really done is make sure that the person who can smash wood can't be run away from. That means her third strike hit it, even with the penalty from being grappled.
Xerice Lockhart |
you would probably get a limit to the amount of limbs that get stuck. So i guess you could get 5 attacks with the last ond being a headbutt :p. Also, unarmed strikes count as weapons, not touches officially.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
That was my understanding as well. But if I don't get a reflex, then I shouldn't be limited on how many 'parts' of me can attack it, since It's getting a free grapple with no save. If I get a reflex save, then I can see me running out of limbs
Sonny Wright |
Sonny shouts "NO! at Xerice as she points her crossbow at him and the bolt thunks into the mimic after traveling between his legs. "That was TOO close "Lady"!
Sonny then tries to escape from the creature.
Break Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Zanu's snowball proves the final straw for the mimic, who collapses into a squishy pile of goo. Everyone who was stuck is now free, and there is a moment of sheepish looks before the other sarcophagus opens with a crash and a mummy walks free!
Mummy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Round 1:
16 Augustus
13 Zanu
11 Xerice
10 Caesare
7 Mummy
6 Risbeth
5 Sonny
Augustus, Zanu, Xerice and Caesare are up! First off, make a Will Save, DC 16 or be paralyzed with fear for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds!
Apologies on the mimic stickiness. I'm still not sure how that's supposed to work, but in the future, I'll try to arbitrate it a little more fairly.
Prof Augustus Tournesol |
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Augustus freezes.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Sonny knows they have undead traits, a fear aura and are vulnerable to fire! Also their attacks spread disease!
Xerice Will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Xerice delays, but is not paralyzed!
The mummy lets out a low moan and lumbers forward to attack Sonny! Slam!: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28 He hits, dealing 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 damage! Sonny, I need a Fort Save DC 16 or diseased!
Xerice, Sonny and Risbeth are up!
Sonny Wright |
"Look out everyone! This things attack spreads disease but it is vulnerable to fire."
Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Cheer!
"By the Power of Sarenrae it is time for you rest eternally!"
Sonny then raises his holy symbol and unleashes holy energies, shielding susceptible friends.
Positive Energy Channel Damage DC: 18: 3d6 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 5) + 9 + 1 = 22

Our Mysterious Benefactor |
will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 The Mummy seems to wilt slightly as the holy energies hit him, though he does not go down!
Xerice and Risbeth are up!
Xerice Lockhart |
"Then maybe we should try and make it more difficult for it to attack people." Xerice says and coils her whips around the mummy's legs then gives it a good pull.
trip: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 24
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Xerice's whip lashes out and barely manages to pull the mummy from its feet!
Risbeth is up!
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Risbeth looks at the mummy as it rises up, and laughs. "Oh my, you must have been horribly injured to need all those bandages."
I'm still not sure how we're doing the sticky, Does Risbeth make saves to avoid being stuck, or is it automatic and she get's to keep slamming it?
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
Oh! Sorry, missed it. :)
Find Weakness: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
If the creature's CR is 15 or less, she ignores any DR or Hardness it might have

Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Risbeth steps to the side, to allow anyone else who wants to enter to do so, and then attempts to pummel the mummy, but the combination of the tight area and her amusement over it's bandages seems to have her coordination off.
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Try as she might, Risbeth is unable to land a blow on the prone undead thing, perhaps out of some concern about the obviously diseased flesh beneath the wrappings or the scarab beetles that periodically writhe free of its body.
Round 2:
16 Augustus
13 Zanu
10 Caesare
7 Mummy
6 Risbeth and Xerice
5 Sonny
Caesare, Augustus and Zanu stand frozen with fear, as the mummy moans and struggles to rise.
The mummy stands Provoking an AoO from Risbeth!, it lets out a low moan and tries to slam into Risbeth! Slam: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32 for 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 damage! If it hits, I need a DC 16 Fort save vs Disease/Curse.
Risbeth, Sonny and Xerice are up!
Sonny Wright |
Sonny grunts as the mummy hit's him and takes a step back. He then raises his holy symbol again and shouts "To dust with you!"
Positive Energy Channel Damage DC: 18: 3d6 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 9 + 1 = 23
Reroll 1: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Reroll 1 again: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Damage=25
Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
Didn't realize it was prone. Still missed with the prone penalties to AC?

Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Risbeth steps to the side, again, to get into a flanking position and unleashes several blows. This time, she is more successful.
I can't get to the map, please move Risbeth another 5ft up and to the left, putting Risbeth in flank position
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Will: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
The Mummy seems resistant somehow to the holy light of Saranrae. It proves less resistant to Risbeth's fists, though. Still it stands, despite several fist shaped holes in its body.
Xerice is up!
Xerice Lockhart |
Xerice approaches the mummy whilst drawing her new magical mace and swinging hard at it's face.
mace+1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
dmg: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
"Come on dear, I even put him on the floor for you. How hard it is to destroy it then?"
Our Mysterious Benefactor |
Xerice bashes the mummy, and it is her blow that puts it over the edge! It collapses into a pile of scarabs, bandages and dust! In the pile of dust, a strange golden ring with a ram's head on it can be seen.
From the room to the south, you hear a strange heavy shuffling and smaller scrabbling footsteps.
Xerice Lockhart |
"See? All you need to do is put some more swing in your punches dear.
And why are you boys just standing there doing nothing. Tsk letting us women do all the fighting for you." Xerice says with a coy smile on her lips. As she bends over and rummages through the dusty remains, picking up the ring and putting it on.

Risbeth Von'Hogmede |
Risbeth grimaces, touching the bloody wound on her side the beast left her with, and wincing as she feels a rib grate. "Not only letting us do all the heavy work, but also letting the foul things beat on us."
35/52
Xerice Lockhart |
"Well you did take the brute of the attention. I guess I can reward you with a little of Calistria's embrace." Xerice says and after a few words, channels dark energy into Risbeth's side with a light touch of her hand.
