Exhaling and collapsing in his chair Caesare is silent for a few moments.... then a few moments more. He looks in his friends eyes and just whispers.... "We made it.... we won!"
Looking around he smiled at the beast and speaks. "Well friend, I will gladly follow you to your fathers house. But pray, give me a good nights sleep and a some decent food. I have been up for hours upon hours to find evidence and prepare your trial and I feel the toll taking place. But tomorrow... after all tomorrow is another day!"

Bonekeep Slides

The Beast gives each of you a giant bear hug, repeating that you have to come visit him and Father at Schloss Caromarc. At that point, nervous guards show up to say that they're to escort the Beast to the edge of town, to make sure he gets there safely. The Beast happily goes with them, nodding his great head.

Justice Daramid approaches a few moments later, after Gustav Kappel has stutteringly expressed his appreciation and the prosecutor, Otto Heiger, steps up to gravely congratulate you on your investigation and speaking skills.

Justice Daramid smiles tightly and requests that you visit her home later that evening. When you arrive, she has a small chest with your reward: an extra 100 platinum pieces for each of you. She expresses her thanks, but worries that mob justice may be possible. Indeed, as you leave her home, you notice small groups gathering and overhear talk of 'taking the law in their own hands' and giving the Beast his due.

Congratulations! You have reached level 6! Go ahead and update and we'll begin the next part of the adventure: the journey to Schloss Caromarc.

Schloss Caromarc is the dwelling of Count Alpon Caromarc, the former ruler of Vieland who abdicated his position when the Palatinates threw off the heavy yoke of the aristocracy.

An eccentric recluse, Count Caromarc has built a dwelling that both attracts and deters visitors. Known as the Hanging House, Schloss Caromarc lies to the northeast of Dippelmere Swamp, and is actually several buildings built into the walls of a gorge above a waterfall. Although the lower parts of the house are as luxurious as one might find in any city, the further up the gorge one goes, the more treacherous and inhospitable the buildings become.

Paranoid about his experiments and discoveries being stolen, the eccentric Count Caromarc has, it is rumored, trapped parts of his castle to prevent theft, and constructed numerous guardian creatures to serve and protect him.

You return to the Inn after spending 1d4 ⇒ 2 hours canvassing for information on Schloss Caromarc. When you arrive back, the innkeeper waves at you, and calls you over. "Woman arrived looking fer ye. 'Friend o' Lorrimor' she says. She's o'er there." He points toward a large table in the corner where a dark haired woman sits, sipping a drink from a mug.

The woman at the table wears odd clothing, silk and flowing, white and red with gold cloth mid-riff. As the woman sips the drink from the mug, she shudders, and pushes the mug away from her with a sigh. She appears unarmed, although as she moves, bits of metal flash occasionally where there are open seams in her outfit, showing a light yellowish metal in small fine detail under them, indicating she's wearing some sort of very light armor under her clothes.

Her skin is pale, and her eyes oddly slanted at the corners. She appears to be in her 20's.

I assume it was not intended as a slight, but merely overlooked in the natural grief that his family had. If he had family. If not, then it would have been grief his friends had. If he had no friends, then it was simply stupidity on the part of whatever lawyer he hired to perform his last wishes." The woman explains evenly. "I would not be surprised at any eventuality. Nor would I be surprised at the good Doctor's funeral turning complicated. I swear the boy could make getting laid in a brothel while carrying a bag of platinum complicated."

The professor bows his head when he hears his name spoken out by Sonny. He makes a timid sign to welcome the dhampir. "Ah! Friends of Professor Lorrimor are always welcomed among us. How did a wonderful vampire's offspring like you come to know and meet such an incredible man?"
Tournesol seems dusty and has a scruffy appearance, a grey rabbit looks bored on his shoulder, munching what looks like to be the cover of a book.

Xerice looks on at the interaction with the other Dhampir with a little disdain at first. Her story about babysitting the professor does peak her interest, a little.
She steps forward and puts a hand on Augustus' unoccupied shoulder and pushes him aside gently. "You will have to ignore the old man, he finds his own shadow interesting if he would ever forget he had one...which I expect can happen any time soon by the look of him." Xerice says sweetly with a smile aimed at the old professor before turning back towards the newcomer.
"So. You are the dhampir nanny Lorrimor mentioned when I met him. I guess I have you to blame for his constant badgering and curiosity after he met me. It's a good thing he outgrew his hormones by then or maybe he would have actually appreciated the whip during our interactions. Hmm, I wonder if I would have whipped him harder if he did..." Xerice says with a wicked smile whilst putting a finger to her mouth in a pensive motion.

The Punishing Man, the immense wood and metal execution device, designed to hold the guilty and burn them alive, has been set ablaze and by the screams, it holds a victim...

Risbeth thanks the barkeep for the wine, tries it, and shrugs in acceptance. Not what she'd normally get, but better than the ale. She arches her eyebrow at the sudden screams outside. "A rather messy method of execution... My own people prefer a simple beheading.. for those who don't choose to take care of it themselves to redeem their honor."

Seems like every game I join dies shortly after joining it...

Outside Zanu can see a crowd of people cheering as the Punishing Man burns. Inside its chest is the writhing form of Vorkstag, already nearly dead. As he chokes his last scream, the crowd begins a chant. "The Beast next! The Beast next!" And heads off toward the edge of town.

There is the sound of the door opening and Judge Embreth Daramid enters the inn, bundled in street clothes and a dark cloak. She starts when she sees the familiar faces, then tersely orders a red wine from the barkeep and moves toward you all. Her severe face is tight as she nods to you all and sees the newcomer.

"Ah, you're the one my housekeeper said was here for Lorrimor. I see you've met the others. I am Embreth Daramid and I was a ...friend of Petro's. These folks have already delivered his bequest from the reading of the will, but I'm sure they can speak better of that. However, Petro did mention you to me on several occasions. In our last letter he seemed to believe it was important that I give you this." She removes a small scroll case sealed with the Lorrimor waxen seal and hands it to Risbeth.

In Petro Lorrimor's hand, it is labelled 'for Risbeth, to be opened following my demise.'

Breaking the seal, you open the case to find a rolled scroll and an odd silver ring, with a gold and lapis raised sigil depicting a scarab with a blazing blue eye on its back. The letter reads as follows, though it is written in a terse hand:

"My dear Risbeth, memories grow ever so more important the older I become, and my memories of you are fond and ever-green. I wish this letter was written under better conditions, but... I fear for my life. I fear I have stumbled into something I do not fully yet comprehend. The Whispering Way is after me. I fear their scheming is more than mere dreams this time. They seek very specific things and I fear the implications. Please. If I do not make it, do not allow their darkness to fall upon our land."

Risbeth reads over the scroll, and sighs. "Stupid gaijin cultists. Nothing but savages. Mayhap when the Emperor once again sits on the Jade Throne, he can be persuaded to civilize these lands." She says, looking around at the screaming throng of blood thirsty commoners. "It would be a rather large endeavor to civilize these barbarians, but it would be worth it, for their own sakes." She comments as she puts the scroll in her pouch.

She turns back to the woman, places her fist in one palm, and bows. "My gratitude to you, for honoring Petro's wishes. It does you and your house great honor."

Risbeth slips the ring into her pocket for now, never put on a ring until you've had a chance to find out if it's cursed...

That is the ring of a member of the Order of the Palatine Eye, an order Petro and I happen to be members of. We do not speak of it openly, but the Order stands to share knowledge useful against the tides of darkness and to keep the flame of reason alive. For Petro to give you such a ring... It is an honor. If you show it to members of the Order, they will be more likely to offer advice and aid."

Embreth nods. "I must get back to my home. Mobs have taken to the street, no doubt angered over the Beast's acquittal. They seized Master Vorkstag and burned him, an outcome I would have preferred occur after a proper trial, but they overwhelmed the guards and we're lucky that no serious injuries occurred. Truthfully, after his testimony this morning, I am not terribly saddened by his loss. However," She sighs, and looks tired and worn, "If you cut across county Northeast on horseback, you should be able to beat the mob to Schloss Caromarc, if that is your intention. I overheard the Beast speaking to you earlier. The mob will stick to the roads and will need to take the longer way 'round. I've arranged for the stables to have horses ready for you at first light tomorrow." She sets her jaw and nods to each of you. "Gods speed you. I fear for the innocent if that mob finds its prey."

Risbeth tilts her head. "He was tried and acquitted? Even if guilty, it is chaos to allow mob mentality rule." She sighs. "I try not to get involved in such things, however, chaos cannot be allowed to run around willy nilly without being severely beaten for it's temerity. Otherwise, reason and what little civilization the barbarians have will unravel."

She gives the woman another fist/palm bow, before returning to her table and gathering her belongings. Risbeth then walks out of the tavern, and heads toward the stables. Once there, she flags somoene down (or knocks on the door), and arranges to get the horse Embreth arranged early, or to rent or buy one if need be immediately.

Moving us along...

You find the stables open and the stable-keeper is able to provide you with the horses after some grumbling about late hours and mobs. You head out of town, toward Schloss Caromarc and can see that the mob has camped not far out of town, having brought several casks and kegs along to fuel their revels. It looks as if they're not going to be moving as quickly as you. Still, you get a few miles out of town before you stop for the evening, taking a night's sleep in an abandoned barn. The hay is soft and you set watches, though you see nothing odd.

The next morning you head out, hearing the unmistakeable sounds of the mob heading in the same direction as you. Passing through the marshy swamps you finally emerge. The fens give way to a deep, rocky gorge at the northern edge of the swamp, where a peculiar building, or rather group of buildings, clings to steep cliff edges above half a dozen plummeting waterfalls. Beyond a fortified gatehouse, a stone bridge arches gracefully over the raging torrents below. Perched precariously beyond this is a fine, fortified manse and a ruined building that appears to have partially collapsed into the river below. A slender rope bridge, replacing the fallen remnants of a stone bridge, links to a strange tower pierced with beautiful stained glass windows depicting bizarre beasts. A further building teeters to the north of this, but how it is reached is impossible to see from here. Far above, a great tower rises from an isle of stone to the sky, ending in a great steeple topped with a huge lightning conductor.

Storm clouds gather over the Schloss, giving it a strange eerie quality.

While riding, Risbeth will keep an eye out for any portions of the path that the mob will take that are hard to bypass (ie: a bridge, or solid path through a swamp) that have trees on the side of the road. Once she finds such a place, she stops her horse far on the other side of it. "Pardon me, I feel the need to commune with nature."

Once in the trees, she studies a large tree on the side of the road, and then proceeds to beat the crud out of it until it falls down on the roadway, blocking it (falling away from her and over the road, putting as many limbs as debris as possible in the roadway to block it). Then she goes across the road, and does the same to another tree. She'll do this until there's a enough wood and debris on the road to make the mob either slow down for a few hours to clear it, or to have to slog off the road and through the muck, delaying them for a few hours.

Sunder trees with her fists, using Find Weakness to bypass hardness and deal damage directly to the tree with each flurry punch.

Once at the location of the building, she checks her pack. "How much rope does everyone have? I can collapse a couple of more trees in strategic locations to force the mob to approach in a certain direction. Or to block the access to the rope bridge. Alternately, those walls look easily knocked down, to make it harder for the mob to approach. The bridge seems like a natural choke point as well..."
