Vianella is on vacation if I'm correct


Dagru hops down from his horse and works up his True Strike concoction drinking for new insight into his future actions.

"I HATE SPIDERS!"

Gird gets off his horse and readies his fauchard, saying a prayer to Milani as he does so.

"Sneaky little bastard, aint he?"

Rockne takes the oversized sword in both hands and moves up to where the spider disappeared back underground. Approaching with only some caution, he tries to examine the tunnel's 'cover' hoping to find some features that can help give him clues where other ones might be.

Seeing nothing distinctive but realizing that the spider is hidden just out of view, Rockne brings his sword to bear and tries to get at the beast anyway. The protection of the spider's tunnel proves too effective, the sword harmlessly deflected away.

Grautak slashes at the spider and misses, while Vianella offers up her own prayers to Abadar.

Again, the spider lashes out, this time at Rockne, who is standing by the things lair. However, the halfling easily bats aside the things huge fangs. It once again throws the cover of its home down to try to protect itself from the weapons of its prey.

"Oh no you don't!" Refusing to let the thing take a shot at him without retaliating, Rockne swings the longsword around again. This time the spider's hidey hole is not protection enough and the halfling is able to connect with the creature.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10


The combined strikes of Rockne and Gird force the thing to try to flee deeper into its hole, but Grautak's explosive proves to finish the thing off as it has nowhere to flee.

The spider's lair is about five feet in diameter, and appears to be about five times as deep. It is covered in thick webbing along the walls, and just past the spider, seemingly protected from the blast, are a few bodies at the bottom of the shaft, one of which is still dressed in leather armor.

Rockne also moves to the edge of the trapdoor, letting the others secure the rope while he keeps his weapon at the ready in case there are any other surprises down there.

Ready as ever Dagru secures the rope around him and heads down with the help of the others. On the way down looking for signs of anything unusual, any writing, or worthy (valuable) items to pick up.

Dagru eventually makes it to the bottom of the shaft, and after looking over the bodies, realizes that the only one with anything of value remaining intact is apparently the most recent body, the one in leather armor.

The man is still clad in leather armor, and has a short sword sheathed at his hip. There are ten gold pieces in a small pouch on his belt, and another silver amulet of a stag's head around his neck.

Grautak:
As the others heave the body out of the shaft, you spot a small piece of parchment fall out of the bodies left boot. On it is scrawled a simple drawing of what appears to be a claw-shaped dead tree atop an otherwise barren hill, with an "X" in blood scrawled by the tree's roots.

Dagru gathers the things and tosses them up unpleased at the lack of materials given the time to accomplish the task.

"What a giant waste, the blasted hole left nothing worth our time. Help me up."

Once up Dagru cleans off the web and filth from below with a rag of clothing left from the body. He then replies to the group,

"So what is next?"

Rockne shakes his head as he looks at the fruits of Dagru's labor. "Would have been a time that 10 gold seemed like a lot to me. Now?" He kicks the spider's corpse before resheathing his sword. "Thanks fer nothin."

He pauses for a moment. "You think this band is big enough that not everyone knows everyone? Can we throw these stag heads 'round our necks and just walk right in?"

The map is purely the sketch as I described in the spoiler, for anyone looking at it. It does not have any indication as to where it may in fact be. Feel free to post further banter as a retcon, I am going to go ahead and resume the "hexploration."

After breaking camp, the group travels westward, and soon enough the northern edge of the Narlmarch forest begins to take shape once again. Fortunately, the forest isn't so thick here, and the horses navigate the confined spaces perfectly fine.

As the sun reaches its peak in the sky, Dagru, Grautak, and Rockne all hear the sounds of groaning coming from a clearing up ahead...

Grautak did share the info with the entire party. FFR, I will always spoiler or PM stuff I want private, which won't be too many things. Once Grautak accepts someone, they are good... unless they doublecross him, in which case it's bad... very bad...

Grautak motions Dagru to the left to sneak out wide and enter the clearing from a different angle to flank any potential enemies or discover any possible ambushes. He and Whisper then move to the right. If anyone has guidance, please cast it on Grautak/Whisper before they move off into the woods. "Keep moving forward. Dagru and I will come in from the sides and surprise them if this ends up being an ambush. Be ready for anything."

Dagru nods, dismounts and moves out with bow in hand to encounter- surprise from flanks whatever is making the noise.


As the group moves into position, they can see through the trees several small black scaled kobolds lying in an arrowhead shaped clearing filled with patches of what Dagru can tell to be Moon Radishes. They are all holding their stomachs as if they've over eaten. Nearby are several baskets of the vegetable filled to the brim.

However, it seems they are spotted as well, as one of them snaps its head towards Grautak and immediately scans the woods and sees the others, and calls out to its companions, "Scoală-te! Suntem înconjurați! Oamenii și creaturi urate si paroase! Scoală-te! Scoală-te!"

Draconic:
"Get up! We are surrounded! Humans and hobgoblins! Get up! Get up!"

Dagru sees the kobolds and moves along the bushes 30' before concocting and drinking shock shield.

This spell creates an invisible shield similar to but not as strong as the shield spell. This shield hovers in front of you and negates magic missile attacks directed at you. The disk provides a +2 shield bonus to AC. This bonus applies against incorporeal touch attacks.
At any time, as a free action, you may dismiss your shield, at which point it deals 1d6 points of electrical damage to all creatures within a 5-foot burst, including you. A Reflex saving throw halves the damage.

This prepares him for the true surprise.

Dang dynamic lighting...Rockne is close enough to charge at the green-dotted kobold but the lighting clearly tells me my 'straight line' is interrupted by a tree! left him unmoved in roll20 for the moment, will post two options.

As the rest of the party girds themselves for battle, Rockne hears the kobolds begin to chatter amongst themselves. "Jig's up!" he shouts over his shoulder as he springs forward and attacks the nearest kobold.

Rockne moves into position behind one of the little beasts surrounding Whisper. Did my AC change? I have a 20 AC so I didn't think they hit me with a 13. Whisper's is normally 14 so he definitely was hit.

Grautak cuts the lead kobold deeply with his blade, as Whisper's jaws snap at another ineffectually. Gird also advances on the scene, ready to strike as soon as he is able.

They continue to thrust their spears at Grautak, while the one yet to engage continues to circle the mounted warrior before lunging at him alongside his friend. Their weapons all fail to harm the hobgoblin warrior, though the final thrust did come uncomfortably close to Grautak's throat.

Wiping the blood from his blade, Grautak looks over the "offering" from the kobolds and sniffs in derision. "Looks like more fodder for Oleg. Let's pack it up." Glancing around the clearing, Grautak sees the berries and takes a closer look. "Brother, are these the berries the crazy man was looking for?" He gives Dagru a handful of the berries for inspection.

What berries are people talking about? I didn't see them mentioned in the description. Or do berries = radishes?

The Lady Vianella Orlovsky halts her sermon as she hears the end of the battle. She steps out to witness the result of the carnage, small reptilian bodies and their blood strewn about. The noblewoman's face turns a shade of green similar to the kobold's blood before returning to normal. These little creatures... not animals for they had a language. Are these lizardfolk... or no... kobolds. Ferocious defenders of their meal, if ineffective. Pity. Capacity for language means potential for negotiation... She gives a dainty shrug and turns to the others. "Has anyone been injured in this foray?"

Rockne whips his head from side to side. It takes him a few seconds to realize that the combat is already over and his blade is still clean. Vianella's question frustrates him even further. Hard to get hurt when you practically miss the battle.......

He busies himself with collecting the loot, such that it was, when the conversation changes to the strange plants. "Forget the crazy old coot, didn't Svetlana post a note on the board about paying good money for a basket of moon radishes?"

The halfling pauses in his work as all eyes turn toward him. "What? Just cuz I swing a huge sword I can't read?"

"The nerve of some people....."
