The rest of the day passes without much commotion. After making sure that the “Baker-Bot” is programmed to handle any and all incoming reports with vague, technical responses, or to follow standard textbook procedure from the online help database which (Lorenzo grimaces momentarily) no one bothers to check for help anyway…

Eh, job security, I suppose.

…Lorenzo decides to take a walk up to R&D.

Last shift should have ended by now, I wonder what all is up there. I’ve got Dr. Cobalt’s files—

Lorenzo flips through the manila folder, noting all of the post-its indicating what needs to be taken care of at each station,

—but he’s not the only one who works up there…

Lorenzo grabs his PD and the micro-tool kit from his desk, before heading to the elevator and punching the button for floor 45.

Thoughts of the possibilities of what he might find useful in R&D flit through Lorenzo’s mind as the numbers tick higher. Every now and again the crazy notion of becoming a super hero himself flits by, but he laughs those off with a nervous chuckle. He is, after all, just a tech specialist at Robocorp and nothing special, right? …but isn’t that what he thought about Baker?

Yeah, but the other problem is, where would I leave this guy? You said this place is on the out skirts of town so there really isn't a good place to leave him and I've already called the ambulance. Also, we're supposed to lie low right now. Flying him some place probably isn't best since I'm really not inconspicuous. So let's go with getting info from the files, keeping an eye and ear out for the ambulance (I'll carry the guy out when they get here), and then collect what I can later from the site itself and/or this guy after he wakes up.

One last question, can I tell what started the fire and what knocked this guy out?

Timeline

Kinetic takes your card and shoves it in a pocket before sliding a well-worn skateboard out from it's concealed carrying case in his jacket. It shares the same "K" signature as the leather jacket but is strangely lacking wheels. You can tell it's a really old skateboard because it appears to be made entirely of wood.

Yea whatever you say, pops. Me and this city's underbelly got a few scores to settle. See ya.

He gets a short running start before dropping the board just as if he was to ride it. Instead of hitting the ground however, it simply floats a couple inches off the ground a barely visible forcefield repelling the asphalt below. Kinetic hit's the board running and he skates out of the alleyway and into the night.

***A little bit later***

The Rising Stars have a well deserved party with whatever is in the fridge. You excuse yourself as they throw in a movie. You wait several minutes for the communicator to connect. Just as you are convinced it's hopeless, you hear a familiar voice on the end.

Silver: Timeline? Perfect timing! I was just about to- *gunfire* -and I was thinking- *more gunfire* Uhhh here hold on a second. *Something that sounds disturbingly like an I-beam being ripped from a structure* -think we could talk in person? *Startled yells and metal on metal screeching* I'm in Lower Dezekyhstan, that should be within your teleportation limit. *explosion followed by several seconds of ear-screeching static* -port when I give the signal. Three......two......NOW!

Timeline ports in as he yells now. He looks around real quick and sees a grenade flying in from behind a wall. He snaps his finger and ports the grenade back at the wall it came from. They both hear oh crap as a couple guys scramble to get away getting knocked out from the explosion.

Also while these two are talking I imagine them fighting together all nonchalant talking back in fourth like you would see in the comics or shows maybe doing combos and going back to back every once in awhile. I know Silver don't need help but it would make for a cool action scene.

Hey big guy good to see you again, thanks for making some time to meet with me. This is about the sidekicks working under Kinetic. They contacted me that Kinetic was missing and helped me track Kinetics's location and helped me defeat the villain that had him captured. Now its my personal recommendation that these "sidekicks" be promoted to active members with the stipulation they stay together as a team. Their bond as a team is strong and they work well together, they did quite well under pressure for their first real combat situation. Lastly I just feel that Kinetic is just to busy to take the time and put them into real combat where to be honest is the most effective learning experience one can have. Now I know you are quite busy and this might be slightly out of line telling you what I think you should do but Im a strong headed individual as you know already and I truly think this team is ready! So what do you think Silver?

Not wanting to show your superhero persona in public so soon after the incident in Visskonia, you decide it would be better to move the unconscious manager into the back of your car and away from the smoke-filled trailer. He seems to breathe a bit easier and you begin to flip through the Top Secret dossiers.

Top Secret:

There are several hazy pictures showing the area before this company set up shop. One is of a moonlit sky and several shadowy blobs are shown silhouetted against the moon obviously in flight. Another shows a flat dirt field with a peculiar shaped rock formation at the center. Several more show caves in the area but you aren't sure why. The one picture that really grabs your attention is a large blue crystal of some sort. It seems to have it's own inner glow and is roughly football sized. Some sort of crystalline trail leads from the base of the crystal into a cave. With your knowledge of geological formations that crystal is either man-made or has a completely different composition than any normal crystal.

It would seem this granite quarry is a cover-up for some sort of rare mineral mining operation.

As you puzzle over the perplexing pictures You hear a bestial screeching coming from inside the trailer. The door remains closed but the trailer is shaking from side to side as if something is thrashing about in there.

hey, i am downtown at a cigar shop. i have a little situation. i am surrounded by men that keep poking me with electricity, and i have a culprit that i have almost detained. if you could port here and pick him up i'd appreciate it. as for his comrades, i'll think of something.
as i say this i walk down the alley to a parked car.
hopefully they have insurance
i back to the corner of the car so it is kinda in the way of his men and me, and i twist McConner around and let go while then picking up the car and using it as a large shield/ slash bludgeoning instrument. i then rush towards the knights and try to smash them with the car, hopefully hitting many of them.

As the elevator doors open, you are rushed by a very flustered Marrissa.

Pach! I was looking for you at lunch. Are you avoiding me?

Without even letting you catch your breath she continues, I have been looking for Baker everywhere and I thought you might know something about it? He disappeared after that fiasco at the Sphinxonium and I haven't seen him since! That's when I saw the "Baker-Bot" you had setup to deflect incoming e-mails.

Seeing your apprehension she reassures you, Don't worry about it, I've been covering for him downstairs too. But I don't like people keeping things from me. And frankly it isn't the same down their without you or Baker. All I've got to talk to is that stupid Marco guy. Did you know he stood me up?! For the Roxx Falls concert!

I was snooping around the R&D labs because I know baker likes to come here when he wants to be alone. But I don't have a badge to get in... She peers over your shoulder apparently thinking he'd been hiding behind you in the elevator.

Your communicator greets you with a loud buzzing sound. It appears whatever magic the White Knight hit you with has cut off the communications in the area. Hero Point awarded for the complication.

You release McConnor to grab onto the beige sedan and hold it in front of you as a shield. The Knights fire several rounds at you as you charge them fortunately none of them actually touching you.

The Knights scatter as you charge past them Sorry, no hit with that roll and you ram the sedan squarely into the McBealey.

McConnors: Not the McBeal- *CRUNCH*

You have managed to T-bone the entire side of the McBealey flipping it onto it's side. A tied up individual in a koala bear suit tumbles out of the now warped trunk of the vehicle. It appears to be the same man from the news only he's been bound and gagged.

The evil toadie stares in horror at the destruction to his prized vintage automobile. You'll pay for that!

McConners fumbles in his pocket for a handful of strange liquid capsules and downs the entire case in one gulp. The Knights begin to edge backwards, away from the enraged Ex-Mossad. You hear them whispering about "eating the whole bottle" and "deadly in large quantities".

McConners falls to his knees as his veins bulge with a blue glowing fluid. Bones snap and pop as they unhinge and he collapses in a weird pile of bone and tissue. The transformation continues to reshape the evil lieutenant creating a strangely familiar box shape. Large Semitic letters adorn each side as his skin forms a supernaturally hard substance. In mere seconds he has transformed himself into...A LIVING DRADLE!

Basically he looks like This Guy

Disoriented, he stares at his new form. What?! I feel stronger...but this shape...nevermind! I will destroy you, you dream wrecking showboat!

McConners rushes at you, his new form spinning rapidly in an entrancing spin...

Make a Will Save vs. the Mesmerizing Spin.

The Knights have decided to create a loose perimeter around you two preferring to let McConnors do the dirty work for them. They will not hesitate to shoot you if you try to run or end up with a definite advantage. One of them is holding up a cellphone and capturing the fight on video.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Forgot to mention in the above post: The ring preventing you from attacking McConners slipped off during the transformation.

Timeline

As you continue to discuss your views on what path the Rising Stars should take, the battle against the onslaught of red and black motif enemy forces continues on. You continue to blink away bombs and shrapnel while Maximum Silver interposes himself between you and gunfire. Several Dezekestani families are huddled nearby, obviously Silver's objective on this mission. In the brief lulls while the enemy forces reload, Silver rushes at super speeds further and further into the town and surrounding area rescuing civilians and returning to the building. He always returns just in the nick of time to deflect a bullet or missile. You take care of the heavy artillery being arranged against this location, teleporting tanks into the nearby river or reversing the facing of rocket launchers at the last second.

A thrown hand grenade gets past Silver's one-man defense as you tell him about Kinetic. Kinetic was captured!? By whom?

Silver uses his speed to grab the grenade before it hits the ground, faces away from you and the civilians before crushing it between his hands forcing it to explode harmlessly.

The primary focus of their training is to learn to control their gifts and to not be a danger to others. We find that 90% of our "sidekick" recruits quit after they learn that being a hero is not all it's cracked up to be.

Silver turns to you for a moment, eyes boring into your soul. After several heartbeats he nods slightly. You've got a good heart, Emit. If you say they can handle being a true team then I will make it happen. Just so you are aware, Kinetic's training program is for sidekicks-in-training. Once they become actual sidekicks they are normally assigned a mentor that suits their needs and then they learn at their mentor's side for a number of years before they are eligible to graduate to being self-sufficient heroes.

Silver deflects a hail of incoming gunfire. You teleport a strafing helicopter 4 miles north of your current location...upside down.

Creating a super hero team from a group of sidekicks is not unprecedented but it is unusual. Each one of them will need to prove themselves to me, the Guardians, and the world that they can handle that responsibility. Silver takes advantage of the enemy's need to reload to whisk another handful of people to safety.

There is only one issue, I refuse to allow two separate superhero groups to both have jurisdiction over the same city. As your group already has jurisdiction of Maximum City (in the absence of Kinetic or one of the senior members) I will have to relocate the Rising Stars elsewhere.

Male [Injuries][heropoints][stabilty]2 [Defenses] D:+3 /P:+0/ F:+3 /T:+5/W:+0 [Stats] STR:+0/STA:+3/AGI:+3/DEX:+4/FIG:+0/4/INT:+10/AWE:+0/PRE:+1

Timeline sees a tank and helicopter while silver is taking another group to safety. He ports to the tank and ports it above the helicopter blades and then teleports all using turnabout letting the tank fall into the blades.
When silver returns
He was captured by a giant mind controlling plant while tracking down Factor X. I took those kids in and they helped me take it down. I appreciate that you feel that I know what im talking about it means alot to me.
Timeline sees a tank about to shoot at the civilians he opens a portal in front of the tank and aims the other end into a enemy group of soldiers. Boom the tank shoots and the soldiers go flying into the air.
I think they will work out well but I do understand you will have to assign them elsewhere maybe a city that doesn't have as much crime at first until they improve their skills. Also I think they will like having a city under their jurisdiction. It will give them a sense of purpose.
Timeline goes back to back with silver as a group of soldiers come up behind them. He ports off a rocket shot at the two of them back at his group. While silver catches a rocket from the other side throwing them back at the group.
Who would you give them as a mentor? They need someone that will give them the skills they need but also the real life experience and of course be supportive of the team. I wish I could do it myself but I got my own thing going with my team.
Timeline blinks two more guys away as silver does his thing getting yet another group out of the Frey.
Well lets wrap this up I got to get the last little things done for the funeral. I appreciate giving me some time to talk to you about this with you I know how busy you can be these days.
Timeline ports off to the commander of this force and teleports him in front of silver and ports back again with turnabout.Timeline hands the commander a cartoony white flag.
You might want to surrender! I have things to do.

Crud. I was hoping I would be the only one around...

Oh, hey Marissa. No, I've just been really busy as of late... Between my new shifts and covering for Baker I haven't had a moment of proper free time in weeks.

...Ok, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but still.

Lorenzo debates on letting Marissa in on what he knows.

Well, the only thing I know about Baker's whereabouts is that he was called away on special assignment for some reason or another. He really didn't tell me anything, and I figured if it was important enough to just leave for a few days, then the least I could do for my buddy was cover for him.

That sucks about the Roxx Falls concert though, want me to change Marco's email spellchecker to some fun obscenities for you?

He smirks,
I can just imagine his face after that one... Either way, I have to head to R&D, but I don't think I can let you in with me; company rules and all that. I can keep you posted if I find anything about Baker in there in the next few hours though while I'm working, if you'd like though?

You snap out of the Mesmerizing Spin's gaze long enough to act.

You resist the magical compulsion.

Timeline

Silver's eyes narrow at the red and black clad leader before he turns to you. Timeline, if you wouldn't mind teleporting these free people to safety, I'm going to have a word with this snake in the grass. Rest assured, the Guardians will choose an appropriate mentor for the Rising Stars.

Your ID badge lights up with the coordinates of a nearby safe zone where you can drop the civilians. As you watch, the leader of the Crimson Crucible (for that is this villain organizations name) begins to glow with an incandescent yellow glow.

Generic Lieutenant #3: Behold the power of our ancient brotherhood, brought to life by our god's sorcery!

He makes a lunge for Maximum Silver with his Energy Fist...and actually pushes Silver back on his heels.

Silver just smiles at the man. Good. I thought for a second that this might be easy. Silver delivers a devastating right cross to the man's chest knocking him clean through the side of the building and into the next one over. He looks back at you. I've got things handled here, go!

A special assignment? I swear he gets one field assignment and now he thinks he's a superhero or something. Well when you see him next let him know I got us both tickets to the Max-Tech Fair next month. I hear that John Johnson himself is revealing some new technology. Anvil Industries will be our number one rival of course and given the rash of new tech they've released recently they'll be tough to beat.

Don't worry, Pach, I got you one too. She tosses you a laminated passcard with the stylized convention name, Max-Tech, written on the front.

i take a prepared action to if he charges me to do a power and multi-attack against the ground at a manhole cover, hopefully destroying it, dropping me down and creating enough of a crater that the point of his rotating body falls into it. this makes it so i am both away from the lightning guys, and he is stuck where i can hopefully hit him from below.

Wild Fire takes a brief second to bring forth her magma armor and wings before cautiously approaches the trailer. Peeking through the door, she sees a small dragon rooting around in the cabinets! It seems to be after the the one labeled "Geological Samples".

Wanting to save the possibly vital information she counts to three before throwing the door open and rushing for the cabinet. The dragon roars in surprise before breathing a gout of flame at her!

She is able to reach the files marked "Strata Studies" and fly out the door before the dragon can get another shot off.

The dragon roars in fury and gives pursuit! It destroys the trailer door frame as it exits and begins to rise into the air on leathery wings. Blue crystal flecks cover it's mouth.

Guy Dobson, Police Clerk: We'll get him squared away, Timeline. Only a few days on the job and you're already cleaning up this town. Keep up the good work!

***Joe***

The next manhole cover over is much shorter than a block away thankfully. As you hustle up the ladder you can hear McConnors continue to hurl insults down into the sewer. You are not a true Israeli and neither was your creator! Come up and face your judgement. McConners slams the asphalt shaking the area around the hole in an attempt to knock you from your position.

You however are no longer at that hole and avoid the attack entirely. You spring into action behind the nearest unsuspecting Knight and fell him with one solid Judo Chop.

The rest of the Knights back up a few paces and attempt to mow you down with energy fire again. They are a bit slow in bringing them to bear and about half of them miss their mark. Two energy blasts manage to connect and you take a Bruise (accounting for a DC 19 save only but according to your above post it was a fail...if only just).

The Koala-Man has managed to stand up and is madly trying to hop away from the fight down a side alley. You here him knock a garbage can over and scare off a couple stray cats.

***Wild Fire***

You shoot at the roid-rage dragon's wings...

Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 10 - 5 = 10 "Disarm" attempt

A scorching hole appears in the dragon's right wing sending it into a spiraling downward angle. With a concussive BOOM it crashes into the operating crane's fuel supply. The crane is now on it's side and on fire. The creature seems to still be alive (oblivious to the fact that it is now on fire) but somewhat woozy from the impact. Staggered, Dazed, Bruise Taken

Just as you think "That was too easy", you hear a second and third creature's call coming from deeper down in the gravel pit. Judging from the files you glanced through, there should only be three of these creatures (They would have been spotted sooner or needed a larger "habitat" otherwise) but the remaining two are in all likelihood the parents...and that usually means they are also much larger.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Wild Fire

***Several Minutes Later***

Dusty and exhausted, Wild Fire stares at the unconscious creatures laid out before her. Not sure what to do with three large and supposedly mythological creatures she calls Timeline over the comms. Is there any way I can get you to transport these creatures some place safe? Whatever these crystals are made out of drove them insane. They'll be too large for our holding cells...maybe the GoE have something large enough for them? These don't appear to be intelligent but it's hard to tell. And something funky is going on with GraniteWorks. They had some classified documents detailing the creatures BEFORE they began excavating.

The ambulance sirens can be heard in the distance. Seems they made good time despite the distance.

Wild Fury powers down and intercepts the ambulance where she left the wounded executive. You explain that one of the GoE saved you and the executive from the creatures. The EMT's readily accept your story as they patch up the Exec.

As you drive home, you get a phone call from Ms. Lyons. Seems your timely rescue of the executive qualifies you for a reward...although you wont receive any pay for the actual job.

Any who truly believes in the almighty is a rightful Israeli. though they may be of the same blood, or flesh in my case, our country has become an accepting nation for all who believe. i regret that i must stop you.
i move towards the Dreidal-Man and decide to finish this, once and for all.
slam, all-out, and power attack
attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
luck point reroll
attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
almost a crit, but it should hit. the slam adds a +1 circumstance to damage. also this is multi-attack to if i beat his AC by 5, damage is increased by 2, and if AC is beat by 10, damage is increased by 5
DC 30, unless multi-attack hit, which i think it did then DC 35
toughness: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 10 - 1 = 11 against dc 22, or dc 25 if multi-attack
luck point reroll
toughness: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 1 = 24
no bruise if no multi-attack, bruise taken if multi-attack.

Timeline ports in giving a nod to Wildfire before teleporting these creatures to the biggest most secure GoE holding cells.
before porting off he uses his comm to radio ahead and warn the GoE of his arrival.
This is Timeline I have a a couple of dangerous creatures that need to go into lock down, they are to big for our holding cells was hoping you had something a little bigger on my way now.
I hope there ready.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Joe

You are a truly an unstoppable force as you barrel into Dradel-Man. He is barely able to let out an injured grunt as you lay him out on the concrete.

You can't...stop...the Revelation... And he falls unconscious.

Luckily he also landed on several of the guards (just as you had planned) and the remaining Knight slaps a device on his wrist, teleporting away.

Wild Fire

You arrive home and wave to Bizzniche who has taken up watching Futurama re-runs. Your eyes are drawn to the flashing message light on your home line. Curious, you play the message. You listen in shock at the sound of your mother's voice.

Elli, honey, please call me as soon as you get this. I couldn't remember your cell phone number and it's really important. It's about your dad. He's had a small heart attack and they're keeping him at the hospital for the week to keep an eye on him...

You listen in shock as she details the fact that your dad is feeling too weak to work and needs at least 2 months of recovery. Even reeling from the news, you know you have to take some time off to at least check in on them.

You make sure to call your mom to let her know you are coming home and inform the team that you'll have to hang up the wings at least for a little while.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Lorenzo

The elevator climbs to the research lab levels and you disembark to find the floor dimmed to after hour levels. The projects you've been assigned are only a couple of the dozen projects on this floor. You notice several discarded prototypes for a military ops enhancement suit and you start to formulate a plan...

Hmmm... Lorenzo checks his watch, Looks like if I finish collecting the data for the projects I need to look at, I should have plenty of time to take a look through all of this other R&D stuff...

Lorenzo heads off, key-carding into each section as necessary and making sure to mark on his data-log that he has been cleaning up the detritus left over from the overzealous R&D boys so that he has an excuse to be in the (what looks to be a comedic label by someone on the R&D staff) "Top-Secret FUBAR stuff" section.

Ok, let's see here...
Lorenzo looks over his list.

"Psionic Megadriver calibration has been malfunctioning. Please check input source code for possible errors." Well that seems easy enough to debug, it'll just need to compile a kernal on that. I can run that first and come back to it later.

A few quick keystrokes later, and Lorenzo's PD is keeping track of the compiling kernal on the Megadriver's input source code.

Alright, that one was easy. What else have we got?

Thumbing his way down the list,
Easy. Easy. Easy. Wait, why am I supposed to unclog the Burig coffee machine? And how does "Unjam the copy machine please, it's been being dumb." fall under my tech level? Do these super geniuses not know how to work the simple things up here? Geeze, if that's the case it's a wonder this place is still standing!

After about an hour, Lorenzo is back where he started making sure his list has been checked off.

Alright, list of things to send back to Dr. Cobalt:

  • 1) Megadriver kernal compiled and refreshed. Looks like it was just a batch error on line 42; some idiot added what looked like was supposed to be a comment about life, the universe, and everything, but forgot to mark it as an actual comment. The machine kept trying to read it as actual code.
  • 2) Computerized autoscrewdriver re-aligned and set back to optimal operating parameters, output efficiency increased by 60%.
  • 3) Cryptophased Transiant Algorithms for the AI cypher have been recorded, recycled, and are awaiting new input.
  • 4) Electromagnetic Pyrochisel recalibrated and operating code refreshed.
  • 5) Possible reason for the errors associated in the site-5 quantum computers found; Coupler N-4 on the Resonating Chronomeasure appears to be corroding and could use replacing. Parts request has been created and is awaiting signature of Dr. Cobalt.

Lorenzo looks down at his now shredded and missing shirt sleeve, along with the coffee grounds that seem to have somehow become molecularity fused to his shirt, and sighs before checking off the remaining two items.

  • 6) Burig coffee machine cleaned of foreign material and disposed of in hazardous waste unit.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: "Please refrain from using company beverage dispensers for personal projects on the application of hyperfluids as permanent bonding agents. Putting a sign on it saying 'This thing is really sticky, so don't touch it!' isn't proper clearance to run personal experiments. I'm sending this part of the log directly to Dr. Cobalt for review.

  • 7) Sheerox copy machine unjammed.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: "Again, I know you guys are R&D and that you're supposed to be coming up with the cool ideas, but just because you can replace the internal operating system of the copier with a potato running Linux does not mean that it is a good idea. You had the whole damn insides of the thing jammed up with potato sprouts! Again, I'm sending this part of the log directly to Dr. Cobalt for review.

That looks like the gist of stuff I was supposed to do, and Dr. Cobalt hasn't sent me anything else to check on yet... sooo... I think it's time to see what other projects the R&D boys have gotten their hands dirty with, and I really hope it's no more potatoes.

i assume that dreidal-man teleported away,if not i will make two calls, one to the guardians to pick up the assailant.
i will go take time to find and pick up the ring that dreidal-man was wearing before.
i go back into the cigar shop and take out the last two resistance fighters if they don't just flee away. i use the land line there to call timeline to pick me up. i also call the military base and tell them my id and to connect to to Kopel, to inform him that i need to speak in person. Timeline will port me to him, and i tell him of the death in the circle, and of the betrayal, giving him the signet ring.

Timeline ports off to Joe after just porting around the big creatures for Wildfire.
Oh the life of being a personal transport system.
Then ports him off to Kopel. He stands around outside tapping his foot maybe upgrading Mr. Kopel's tech a bit, as im sure the good Rabbi would appreciate his privacy.

With a furtive glance at the security cameras mounted around the room, Lorenzo grabs one of the waste-disposal bins around the room and hauls it into the Failed-projects section.

Alright. I know those supers are somehow connected to Baker's...disappearance.

Don't say death. Don't say death. Don't even think death.

Let's see what extras these guys have that might help me out here...

Lorenzo starts checking the readouts on storage crates.

  • Item #: RCP-F-76N2
  • Head Researcher: Junior Researcher Chung
  • Failed Project Notes: "Multi-faceted ocular replacement for wide-spread spectrum analysis. Prototype performed admirably, except when [REDACTED]. Immediate decommission and relegation of █████ to ██████████ hospital."

    Lorenzo stops reading,
...well that doesn't sound healthy. Not sure I like the sound of it.

  • Item #: RCP-F-6H057
  • Head Researcher: Consulting Engineer Kachada
  • Failed Project Notes: "Light protection enhanced power suit meant for urban insertion and extraction, utilizing stealth technology reverse-engineered from ██████████. Suit functions as expected except that as power cells deplete, █████ ████████ ███████. Results untested due to ██████████ ███████."

    This could be promising...
Lorenzo opens the crate and shoves the suit into the waste-bin, before sealing the crate and putting it back again.

  • Item #: RCP-F-3M5
  • Head Researcher: Dr.████████ ██████
  • Failed Project Notes: "Cellular replication weave meant to repair host cells by [REDACTED]. Project scrapped due to high energy needs for cellular reconstruction. Dr.████████ ██████ recommends possible use in fields of ████████████. Denied."

Lorenzo grabs the fine, spider-silk like mesh from its case and adds it to the bin.

    That looks good too.

  • Item #: RCP-F-8UF
  • Head Researcher: Junior Researcher Davidson
  • Failed Project Notes: "Passive injection unit intended to boost the limits of human abilities by more than ███%. Injections target ████████████ areas of neuromusculature system, using █████████ ██████ to stimulate █████████████████ ██████ in the recipient. While the device is capable of synthesis of █████████ ██████, project scrapped due to high chance of █████████."

Welp, not sure exactly what the down-sides to this one are, but it looks promising.

Lorenzo adds the gauntlets, tubes and wires from this case to his bin and checks his watch.

Shoot, I'm nearly up on time...
He takes a quick look at the shelves of other cases holding unknown assets.
Crud. Don't know when I'll be able to have this chance again. Gotta make it count!

With that, Lorenzo starts opening containers with the least warning signs and the lowest security tags. Unknown equipment, pieces of suits, helmets, and other electronics make their way into the waste-bin. Finally, Lorenzo takes one last look to make sure everything is sealed back up and shut down before grabbing a stack of tarps to cover his "liberated" good with, and then up-ends a real waste basket on top of the load for good measure.

With that, he heads to the door.

  • Male Human Fort Takoma Military Training Consultant

    Joe & Timeline

Only one of the Knights managed to escape, the remainder were taken out when Dreidel-Man landed on them. You are able to apprehend one of the hired thugs from the storefront but the remainder appear to have fled once the Knights showed up.

Timeline obliges, muttering something about "glorified taxi service" before exiting the room leaving you and Kopel alone to discuss business.

Kopel is less than pleased at Timeline's abrupt appearance and only softens when he sees you. You shouldn't just appear like that, old friend. A lesser man would have had a heart attack. He walks to the door and checks that no one is listening. All he spots is Timeline dismantling the hallway's smoke alarm and fiddling with it's insides.

Kopel turns back to you. Remind me to insulate this bunker better. This is supposed to be Black Diamond clearance only. It might be better if you send your friend away quickly, before the heat sensors register him.

Kopel listens to your afternoon adventures and his brow furrows in concern. The Knights have someone capable of nullifying your ability to transform? And they are aware of your true nature? That's not good. We may have to leverage a few of our other resources. It is truly a shame that one of the council have fallen. I will inform the rest of the elders for you. It is unfortunate but we must grieve in silence for if word of this got out even to the traditional military, they might disband our cell. I will handle McConnor's custody personally. He will have to be dealt with quietly.

Kopel accepts the ring and casually mentions, Joe, I want you to check yourself into Medical before you head home. Jehovah knows you don't have vitals in the traditional sense but I would like them to run a few psych tests on you. Standard procedure of course. I'd better be getting home soon, there's a storm rolling in tonight. A big one.

Insight Check. Timeline, feel free to roll as well.

    Joe:
While holding the ring, his suggestion becomes a command. He does not appear aware of this fact.

Hero Point awarded to Joe for Complication.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

    Lorenzo

As the nigh wears on, a storm rolls in. What starts as a pitter patter quickly escalates to a roaring gale.

You feel not a bit giddy as you search quickly through the classified prototypes. As you flip the real waste basket on top to complete the cart's disguise, something falls out. Examining it, you realize it's an ID badge. Professor Coriolis' ID badge. As you hold it, it begins to vibrate and flex in your hand. It's surface feels wet.

    Perception Check

    Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Hmm, what's this? That doesn't look like a normal badge...

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

    Lorenzo

The badge somehow manages to flow out of your grip and fly towards the window. It hits the window just as a bolt of lightning blinds your vision. You think you hear a watery sound just before the crack of thunder. When you can see again, the card is gone, a small spatter of water left on the inside of the window.

You recall that Dr. Coriolis was working on the now defunct water excitation program just before he went missing. The remains of the project have not been moved into the Failed Projects room as of yet. You can see the large ceramic tank inside of one of the labs. So what was his ID badge still doing here?

    Timeline

You catch little of Joe's conversation with what you assume is his superior but you do finish altering the smoke detector to temporarily mask your heat signature. You love playing with antiques.

Why, hell-o, what have we got here? A sultry voice calls from further down the hallway. You find yourself in the presence of a slim, dark-skinned woman in red camo. Her clothes say professional, while her guns say she's dangerous. They jiggle slightly in their holsters as she slides towards you.

    Timeline & Joe

Seeing Joe step into the hallway she smirks. So Rambo's found a friend I see. She leans waaaay too far into Timeline's personal space as she asks, I trust you are just friends, yes? I should warn you, I find hourglasses sexy.

    Joe:
This is Katianna Cohen, codename Katana. You have teamed up with her on occassion for larger missions but really only know that she's a tremendous flirt.

Timeline looks the woman up and down.
I appreciate a good hourglass too, figure that is. The name is Timeline pleasure to meet you miss....?

Katana, yes like the blade. Although most people find my curves to be far more pleasant.

She continues to blatantly ignore Joe as she leans up against Timeline, What are your powers hot stuff? Only the best and brightest are allowed in this level. Are you...competition?

    Insight DC 13:
You notice Katana has swiped your GoE ID.

I don't have time to wonder about that right now...

Lorenzo takes a last look at Dr. Cory's life's work.

I've got to get home before anyone notices me with this stuff... I just hope this rain won't prove to be too much trouble.

Lorenzo wheels his bin out the door and takes one of the freight elevators down to the loading docks. Ignoring the cameras down here as well, he wheels the bin towards the dumpsters that are right outside the loading doors and away from any other cameras.

He leaves the bin in an unobtrusive corner while he pulls his car around to load up.

After quickly piling all of his gear into the car and covering it with the tarp again, Lorenzo dumps the bin back inside, clocks out, and heads home.

The rain is especially fierce, and makes driving difficult, but not unmanageable.

Now I just gotta figure out who I need to talk to, to get some answers around here...
