I'm unclear are we on the prison side of the bridge or the mainland side?

we are in the prison gate house.

as the guard leaves, Annie was about to warm him up, but the devils took care of him, and she just frowns.

"Ambush perhaps? I don't know if you'd like to leave him alive to make him suffer first. I don't mind either way."

As the guard screams behind you as he is slowly devoured by Devils you take a look around.

You are in the Prison's front hall just inside the gates, the hall is about one hundred feet long and has two doorways on each side and an additional doorway at the far end which leads to the Warden's Tower.

When you originally escaped you came from the first hall on the right, which leads to the cells.

You hear voices and foot steps coming from the direction of the Warden's Tower entrance, it seems Blackerly is on his way.

Blackerly is coming but you guys have enough time to prepare what you like before he gets here.

Johann simply waits for his chance.

Readying to cast Grease on the floor beneath them.

Annie moves off to the side and sets her teddy bear on the ground, she sits beside it and closes her eyes. ok Tibbers, its time to play... she says as she starts to burn the teddy bear.

this will take about 10 rounds (1 min) so hopefully there is time. but she summons Tibbers

Yeah, you have enough time.

Blackerly comes through the far door and approaches you with a full squad of ten guards at his back.

He is armed for combat now, a mail shirt over his leather jerkin and a gaudily decorated longsword at his side. He wears a fur cape on his shoulders that looks completely out of place, a sign he now considers himself Warden of this facility.

The guards at his back look as tired and put out as much as their boss looks enthusiastic and energized.

Approaching within forty feet of your group Blackerly looks oblivious to who you are or that something is wrong.

One of the guards at his side is more aware of his surroundings though and his eyes widen as they approach.

"Blackerly!" He warns.

"Shut up!" Blackerly shouts, slamming a mailed fist into the guard's face. "I've had enough of your complaining, just do your damn job!"

The guard spits a stream of blood, which contains at least one broken tooth. The rest, including Blackerly, are unaware they are in danger.

Johann waits a moment to see if anyone else would like to do something before casting his spell, summoning a cloud of golden dust to blind and cover the guards.

Meanwhile, in distant Ghastenhall...

The door to the smoky tavern known as the Hog's Head swings open, revealing a scruffy looking man in a wet poncho, his head protected from the rain outside by a widebrimmed hat. Just visible under his poncho is black leather body armor, a sabre on his hip and a brace of flintlock pistols around his torso.

The man enters the tavern and approaches a table where a trio of individuals sit. Two are large, muscular men, obviously hired muscle while the third is a thin man with long dark hair and a narrow face.

"Reeve?" The man in the widebrimmed hat asks as he sits uninvited at their table.

The dark haired man's eyes widen as he realizes this stranger recognizes him.

"Reeve Claw, known as the child killer, whom was imprisoned by his own noble family in a tower for his crimes? And escaped by having his own surgically enhanced body parts magically transported out piece by modified piece?"

Reeve's eyes widen further. "Kill this man!" He commands his minions.

Before the muscular minions can move the man in the hat draws his sabre and slashes their throats in one smooth motion before lunging at Reeve.

Reeve reacts with magically enhanced supernatural quickness, his left hand folding back and projecting a rapier thin blade from his modified wrist, the man in the hat is forced to drop his sabre and use that hand to catch the blade, which pierces his palm but is turned aside by his strength as he uses that hand to pull the blade out and to the side.

Drawing a pistol with his other hand the man hits Reeve in his face repeatedly with the butt before flipping it around and pressing the barrel to Reeve's forehead.

"Werner the Bounty Killer." A finely dressed woman at the bar identifies the man in the poncho. "I've been looking for you for awhile, the Kingdom of Talingarde needs you."

"What for?" Growls the man in the poncho, holding the blade and the arm attached to it roughly down on the table with his pierced hand, as painful as that must be, and pressing his gun barrel into Reeve's sweating forehead.

"A Prophecy of Doom is coming to fruition in Talingarde, divination says a group of adventurers who serve Asmodeus are rising and may ruin us all, we need you to hunt them and will pay extremely well. Not much is known of them yet, but they are very dangerous and horrifically evil, will that be a problem for you?"

Werner pulls the trigger of his gun and splatters Reeve's brains all over the wall behind him in a ferocious blast.

"Not even a little bit." Werner replies with a solemn grin.

A small supply of absolutely delicious cookies carefully wrapped in wax paper labeled ‘From Lil.’

A whetstone, cleaning supplies for chain shirt, extra bowstring, and a small book of military regulations.

A collection of cheap, tawdry, crudely printed books (the so-called “penny dreadfuls”) about dashing heroes, daring do and amply bosomed damsels prone to fainting and outdoor bathing (no resale value).

A small bottle with a hand written note “In case of trouble – Love, Mom!” (a potion of cure light wounds).

The Warden's Wizard Spellbook; Richter’s Tome of Arcane Armament
This beautiful book is made of fine cerulean leather embossed with gold leaf. Its edges are reinforced with brass fittings and strange arcane symbols adorn its covered. It bears the draconic rune of “R” in the center of its front cover.

1st – alarm, charm person, expeditious retreat, feather fall, mage
armor, magic missile, mount, shield, sleep

I claim the cookies, the love letter with engagement ring, and a potion of CLW....

In addition you find a vast amount of mundane armaments in the armory, while they are too heavy to carry all for sale you find you can equip yourself quite well there.

No treasure value for these weapons and armors but you can equip yourselves with any mundane weapons and armor you like from the storage. Also when it comes to dividing treasure I tend to leave it up to the group, however if you find yourselves having a hard time agreeing on who gets what I can step in and help.

You have conquered Branderscar and can do with the prison what you want.

After that time his features return to normal and he goes to the warden's quarters to look for ledgers and books for the prison, in particular records of people who imprisoned her and who served here. Once he has finished he'll come down and nod to Annabelle "I'm all done, you can have your fun now."

The doctor is curious about the poison but if someone else wants it he won't complain. However he is quite keen to own the books.

Roleplay until we get that level up squared away. Johann would keep the love letter though he could sell the books since he doesn't really need to keep a collection when he hasn't a place to put them in.

Johann continues his browsing through the wizard's residence and pays special attention the library.

When everyone is finished though, he says to Annabelle, "I suppose you'd like to set the entire prison on fire. The Cardinal never said what to do with the prison but he might have some use for it."

Johann asks the bone devils outside if the Cardinal left any hint of what he wanted done with the prison itself.

The records of the prison are strangely touch and go and incomplete, perhaps a sign of the long running corruption here.

A Bone Devil licks its fangs as Johann asks his question. "As far as we know the Knots may do as they like, all we know for sure is to not interfere."

You guys can do what you like with the prison, The Cardinal cares not, after you're done here returning to the mansion is the next thing on the agenda, unless you guys want to go off the rails=).

Don't worry about splitting all the treasure right this instant if you don't want to I can just assume one of you is playing the mule till you as a group need to bust the treasure out.

if possible keep blackerly alive for torture back at the manor

-Posted with Wayfinder

Blackerly still lives, though he is very wounded, and he spits curses at his captors every chance he gets. There is an edge of fear in his eyes as well though, he recognizes each of you and remembers that it was he, personally, who tortured and branded each of you.

In addition to all your other findings you've found many barrels of lamp oil in the prison larder, enough to drench every room of the prison and set it alight if you'd like.

When Branderscar goes up it lights the sky for miles around.

Fire sears through its halls, hollowing out an institution that had stood for generations, the flames seeming hotter and brighter than one would expect, even with accelerant, as if the purging flames were feeding on the residual pain of the thousands of prisoners that had suffered here over time.

As you leave the towering inferno behind you find the Bone Devils standing around looking nervous.

A newcomer has arrived, a Devil who appears almost human, wearing a Talingardian master merchant's suit and a large top hat. Though he has a strong aura of evil and power the only hint at his infernal origins is a black tail that ends in a spade like blade that swishes side to side behind him as he walks.

He takes off a pair of spectacles and rubs the black goatee on his human face with the other hand as he says;

"You really must be special snowflakes as Asmodeus has sent me to offer you my services, he must have big plans for you."

"Greetings, I am Agamemnon, though you may simply call me The Merchant. It is an unfortunate reality in this rotten new age that one needs gold, even in Hell, these days." He replaces his glasses after cleaning them with a clothe.

"I am here to sell and buy goods you want or may have acquired. I have access to the Vaults of Hell itself so I can acquire any item for you you wish, at fair market value of course, you may be favored but I am not running a charity."

Walking Magic Mart ;)

Johann greets Agamemnon with the proper courtesies, taking note of the information the devil freely offered to them. He dons the polite veneer of formality faced with something he cannot adequately measure.

Roll to recognize his species or him specifically if famous enough.
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

"This is a great honor," he says.

Knowledge(the planes)DC 20:
Agamemnon is a unique devil who once served as the Herald of Asmodeus himself. Though he was removed from that position it wasn't due to falling out of favor but rather due simply to Asmodeus' constant reshuffling of the Infernal ranks(the better to keep his minions on their toes).

He now serves as The Merchant of Hell where he has two duties. The first is to offer great bargains to Kings, Emperors, High Priests, etc. Offering them what they need in times of great peril in return for their immortal souls. The second is to offer those in favor with Asmodeus access to items in the Infernal Vaults of Hell where nearly infinite treasures lay, for the proper amount of coin, of course.

The devil politely tips his top hat to Johann.

"Anything you like I can fetch for you, if you need nothing currently you can summon me at anytime by saying my name as you slit the throat of a mortal, their blood will manifest me. Now, may I be of service to you?"

The doctor give a bow to Agamemnon "Indeed a great honour. While your services are worth vastly more than a life doesn't it seems a little wasteful? As for now, you can take these." he says indicating the Alcohol, Holy symbol, Holy Book and Masterwork Lute. "And I would like access to formula's or wizard's spell book to copy the follow: alchemical allocation, alter self, barkskin, blur, bull's strength, cat's grace, detect thoughts, invisibility, levitate, resist energy, restoration (lesser), see invisibility. And the following for making potions for everyone." The doctor continues to make a list ingredients.

12x2nd level spells = 40x12 = 480 gold spent

"Wasteful?" The Devil asks. "It is what is necessary for I to make the transition through planes without using my own power. The industries of Hell are fueled by blood, gold, and souls, that is the reality. If you don't want my services feel free to not slit any throats in the future. Now, let me fetch you your items."

The items and gold Yanev offers disappear in a puff of flame and the items he requested appear.

"Does anyone else desire to use my services?" The Merchant asks.
