You blow hits but is somewhat ineffective against the bony beast.
Janiven: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Janiven feathers the tiefling again, but for minimal damage.
Next round...
bony chomp: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
bony chomp: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The tiefling issues a word of command to Janiven, HOLD! DC 15
Janiven save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Uh-oh...I think this is where the Dukes of Hazzard voice says something uninspiring as the General Lee makes a crazy jump...

I kept my other sword and will use it too, just figured it might take a round to draw it.

Do I see the spellcaster? Didn't he become visible again when he attacked? Is Janiven still holding?

I don't think so (and the module doesn't indicate it).
The spell ends if the subject attacks any creature. For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe
A weapon made of force appears and attacks foes at a distance, as you direct it,
Not sure if they are parsing target with direct? Target would be magic missile, fireball, lightning bolt. Direct would be "go attack that guy"?
Janiven is still held.

The spell ends if the subject attacks any creature. For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or "effect" includes a foe. Exactly who is a foe depends on the invisible character's perceptions.
Since spiritual weapon is striking at me I would say the spell "effect" includes a foe so invisibility would end.
However spell description for invisibility goes on to say that when invisible you can summon monsters and have them attack. To me that seems counter to the spirit of the rule. As DM I would let you summon a monster and use it for some other purpose but if you had it attack a foe, I would rule invisibility ends.
Just my 2 cents on the subject.
Anyways where are we is it my action?

Here's the portion of the module that would indicate that the writer feels SH does not negate invis: "While invisible, Palaveen casts spiritual weapon and directs it to attack a lightly armored character." I'm guessing it's like a dancing sword maybe? Read also the part in the invis descpription that indicates that you can cause damage/harm to a foe and not become visible. Where's the errata on this?!!!
The good news is that the spells about to expire.
It's your attack.
Caldir |
I will try to swing at mr. invisible
Assume you will make appropriate subtractions for invisibility.

If a character tries to attack an invisible creature whose location he has not pinpointed, have the player choose the space where the character will direct the attack. If the invisible creature is there, conduct the attack normally. If the enemy's not there, roll the miss chance as if it were there and tell him that the character has missed, regardless of the result. That way the player doesn't know whether the attack missed because the enemy's not there or because you successfully rolled the miss chance.
1 out of 4 you pick the right square; 1 being a hit: 1d4 ⇒ 1
50 or less is a miss: 1d100 ⇒ 66
You somehow find a way to hit what you can't see! The force is strong with this one...

I will hide and backstab them as they come through the door, you back off to the far side of the room but stay visible and feather them with your bow. If things get bad, keep a potion handy and be ready to run.

LOL, hope I win initiative.
Chris Welch DM2 |
You hear a deeper, rougher voice, Come on you BASTARDS! Palaveen says there is only two of them, and one of them's a woman...let's go have some FUN! RAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHR!
A large tiefling in a breastplate comes barreling into the room.
Janiven: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
arrow: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Janvien-If you're feeling horny, well I've got the cure for that! Hard to get it on when you are a pincushion!

Janiven's second arrow glances off the tiefling's sturdy breastplate. The tiefling has no weapons except a set of fierce claws. He looks intent on getting into melee with Janiven and tearing her to shreds!
Janiven-Awwww shucks...
Tiefling-I'm going to pin YOUR cushion!

Once again the tiefling's breastplate saves it from certain pain.

Janiven: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Janiven's next arrow catches the tiefling in the throat ending his life.
Janiven-Pin, meet cushion. Watch out Caldir, here come the others and that witchy one is still around somewhere!

tiefling: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

You dodge and parry three of them while sliding back towards Janiven's position and the secret door. The fourth tiefling starts moving to the side in attempt to cut you off and flank you.
Your move, then J, then T.
Caldir |
"Keep feathering Janiven!"
Attack and continue falling back, will attack the one trying to flank if that is possible.

Caldir |
Duck back out of the hallway into the room where we can't be hit by ranged weapons unless they come down the hallway. I will try to position myself for a sneak attack if they come after us. "Quickly drink a potion or use the wand on yourself Janiven."
Chris Welch DM2 |
Janiven follows your lead and smokes down her remaining potions. You wait a few minutes but your assailants do not pursue. Finally you hear the clik-clack of bony paws as you see two more skeletal wolves bounding down the hallway towards your position.
